Glad I stayed just the night. It was an ok hotel as I transitioned to another city. It's close enough to a subway station that got me to chaoyang railway station the next day. The room lingered of cigarettes which was disappointing for a non smoking room. I was upset about something else so didn't want to bother complaining.
The front desk was trying to be helpful with the reservation discount, through trip.com, at a restaurant nearby. The coupon was for Beijing duck at a discount and went back and forth with the hotel and the restaurant to the point I just ordered something else. The hostess at the restaurant was adamant that the discount was not for the duck. I even got a stamped business card from the hotel who told me it included the duck, that seemed to make the restaurant hostess a little nicer, but in the end she was very dismissive of me and no to the duck discount. I ordered noodles instead, a drink and a dessert. When my takeout was ready and the server was handing it to me, he politely was letting me know what was inside the bag. I smiled and nodded, then the hostess who was sitting in another room yelled out, " ta ting bu dong, ta shi weiguoren" / "she doesn't understand, she's a foreigner" and laughed. I understood her Chinese. The server looked stunned and I said "xiexie" and "jiejian", thank you and goodbye and left.
I'm leaving a good review for the hotel because I think they did their best. It would have been helpful if they could have ordered the discounted duck for me, I could pay and pick it up instead of deal with the rude hostess or walk back and forth. I didn't complain about the room smell, I am sure they would have helped me if I did, I just didn't have the energy that day. It was a first to receive poor attitude from a restaurant hostess, usually I encounter kind and helpful staff in China.
Breakfast at HanTing was ok, small and simple selection. Dining area was cozy.
