I had a really pleasant stay at Zijingong Hotel, and I was especially impressed by how easy and convenient everything was.
I arrived very early, at around 8:30 in the morning, even though the official check-in time stated online was 2:00 PM. I was fully prepared to just leave my luggage and come back later, but to my surprise, they checked me in immediately. The whole process took literally about five minutes, and I could go straight to my room. I really appreciated this after arriving early in the morning.
Check-out was just as quick and uncomplicated. I simply returned my key card, left my luggage at reception and went out to enjoy the city for a few more hours. One thing to keep in mind: if you leave your luggage after check-out, make sure to ask until what time you can collect it. As far as I remember, it had to be picked up by around 9 or 10 PM, as the night reception may not handle luggage storage.
Breakfast is traditional Chinese, which I personally enjoyed. Some of the dishes were not clearly labelled, so since I don't eat pork, I asked the lady working in the breakfast area which dishes were pork-free. She was very kind and showed me exactly what I could eat.
A special mention goes to the hot soy milk — it was delicious! You can even take it with you in a takeaway cup, which I thought was a really nice touch.
Overall, the service was friendly, efficient and uncomplicated. The early check-in was a particularly pleasant surprise. I would definitely stay here again.
The location is a huge advantage. The Forbidden City is only about a 20-minute walk from the hotel, and Jingshan Park, where you can enjoy the famous panoramic view over the Forbidden City from above, is around 25 minutes away on foot.
Wangfujing Pedestrian Street is also just about a 10-minute walk away. There are plenty of shopping malls, shops, restaurants and huge digital screens, so it's a great area to walk around, shop or just enjoy the lively atmosphere in the evening. You can reach several of Beijing's major sights and shopping areas on foot without constantly needing taxis or public transport.
