James Joyce Coffetel (Beijing Gongti Sanlitun)

I chose this hotel mainly because of its location, yes it did very much fulfilled my expectations on that. But I'd like to say that would probably be all. First of all the "lobby" of the hotel is super dark and gloomy, the breakfast cafe is just right next to the reception counter, they switched off the lights of the cafe right after breakfast so it is a constant dark corner that makes the hotel looks CLOSED and totally unwelcoming. Taobao parcels/food deliveries are all stacked at one corner of the cafe, staff will not help u to keep track at all, u have to go and "dig" through the piles yourself and collect your ******* deliveries yourself too - no hotel staff will inform u. Also there is no actual lobby as the hotel is located on Level 6 of the SOHO3 building, which means when u take a Didi u have to drop off at the main road and walk in. It is ok when u dont have luggage. Hotel staff are not helpful when asked questions, their replies are usually very vague or they seem unsure. I stayed 4 nights in a room with my family, specifically requested for no-corner room but I still got a corner room in the end. First night at the room, we found 3 flies inside. Alive and flying around. Didn't complain as we were tired. Then on our 2nd night we had issues with the toilet bowl flushing, it got stuck and was overflowing. Called hotel staff and they got a housekeeping lady to come try fixing, but she is no plumber and we were later told they couldn't fix the issue as the plumber is already off work. It was 11pm+ by then and my kids were tired. Hotel staff offered a change of room for us. We had to manually move all our luggage and belongings in the middle of the night to another room, zero help from anyone. Then our 2nd room aircon was completely crazy. We were in sweat all night. See my photo of the thermostat. I put it in COLD mode and even switched to 5⁰c which was the lowest, but the room temperature remained at 28⁰c no matter what.

The hotel is in a great location for food and shopping, offering a quieter alternative away from the crowded tourist areas. While it’s about a 30-minute drive from the city center (with no traffic), we enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and local city vibes. The hotel itself is clean and quiet. The layout can be confusing at first (it felt like walking through a maze) and I got lost a few times. Fortunately, the housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful in guiding me back. Most staff don’t speak English well, but they were polite and did their best to assist. Overall, a good stay if you prefer a more relaxed area with plenty of local food and shopping options nearby.

Excellent Stay in Sanlitun – Great Value & Comfort! I recently stayed at this hotel in Sanlitun and was very impressed! The reception staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making check-in smooth and pleasant. The room was clean, cozy, and well-maintained—exactly what I needed for a comfortable stay. For the price, the quality is outstanding, offering great value compared to other options in the area. The location is another big plus—conveniently situated in Sanlitun, with easy access to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. Whether you're here for business or leisure, this hotel is a fantastic choice. Highly recommended for travelers looking for affordability, cleanliness, and a prime location. Will definitely stay here again!
