Excellent boutique hotel with exceptional service. Great location although it could get noisy from music from nearby pubs. I would go back again.

My sister, my friend and I recently stayed at The Merchant Hotel for one night, booking the Art Deco twin double room. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to our expectations. The room itself was quite tired and nothing particularly special, especially considering the price point. We had lunch in the bar, but the food was disappointing and below what we would expect from a hotel of this standard. On a positive note, when we phoned down for taxis and room service, these requests were handled efficiently. The hotel’s central location is convenient; however, it also meant there was significant noise throughout the night from outside, along with constant bedroom doors opening and closing. As a result, we didn’t get a great night’s sleep. Breakfast was similarly underwhelming, with a limited menu and nothing that stood out. Overall, what we had hoped would be a lovely, five-star experience simply didn’t meet expectations. Sadly, we wouldn’t return or recommend it.

I have stayed in the Merchant Hotel 6 or 7 times but I will never be back again. My daughter and myself arrived at 1.30pm on Thursday afternoon and joined a queue to get checked in, there was one person on the desk to deal with this, eventually another member of staff came to help with the queue, I handed over my debit card for security which I have done before and got the card for our room, no mention of any money to be taken from the card. The room we got, 316 was not great to say the least, I have attached a photo, the beds are very comfy and the bathroom was spacious with a free standing bath, but the only mirror you could actually use was in the bathroom because the black concrete post covering half the window was blocking out what little light that was coming through the window. We went down for breakfast about 9.30am to be told there was no tables free and so we waited for about 15 minutes to be seated, it was so busy there was people waiting everywhere, but the staff were very friendly and as helpful as they could be, I noticed a payment of £325 had been taken out of the card I gave as security so when I was checking out the next day I asked the receptionist why this amount had ben taken from my account, she said we take the room value plus £50 per person, I was confused as our room was £268 of which I had £200 already paid, I only owed £68 on the room but I was assured it was only a holding fee and it would be credited straight away. Several phone calls later one to the duty manager who said she couldn't understand why £325 was taken out of my account if I only owed £68, she said she would get Ben their customer services manager to reach out to me but he never did and the £325 they took on Thursday 19th wasn't back in my account until Wednesday 25th. In my option it doesn't feel like 5 star luxury anymore and if you do have a complaint no one wants to know.

My partner and I are well seasoned travellers and we both agree this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in !! The attention to detail in the service was unquestionably faultless, something that immediately stood out as soon as we arrived. Throughout our stay we experienced nothing other than perfection (sounds a bit extreme but that is how we felt)..the staff were so professional but friendly with it, the standard of the hotel in general including our room and the spa facilities were second to none. The food was amazing, plenty of choice and a few unusual dishes. The wine was very reasonable in price for such good quality...and as for the cocktails WOW ! Connor was a talent to watch..as were the staff in Berts Jazz Bar...incredible skills even when the bar was very busy. I seriously cannot praise this hotel and the staff enough !

Had an other fantastic stay. From the receptionist to the bar manager...all amazing . The room was out of this world with really comfy bed and large bathroom with freestanding bath and enormous shower which was easy to control with great pressure. Theres a reason this is the top hotel in Belfast,........ and we've stayed in them all.

We booked a Victorian room for two nights and got upgraded to an art deco room and it was truly beautiful. We had a meal in Berts jazz bar and breakfast! I have stayed numerous times and used the roof top hot tub and sauna! Anyway it was that amazing I decided to stay an extra night and was upgraded to a Victorian suite and omw it was just beautiful and also had a meal in the cloth ear and breakfast included. I would not stay anywhere else it is the most fabulous hotel and is one of the reasons I can’t stay away from Belfast! Staff are fantastic and attention to detail is priority for sure!
