We travelled as a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children ages 7 and 4. We stayed the last week of the August UK school holidays. We chose this hotel as we are fans of the Melia chain. Whilst looking we found the hotel available as part of Jet2 holidays and this worked out the cheapest way for us to book. In summary we had a fantastic stay, and the hotel was everything you would expect of a 4-star hotel, just so good. For us though, the kids club staff (who also doubled up as part of the evening entertainment team some nights) were just so much fun, they were great with the kids but also just gave the hotel a generally good friendly vibe- top marks to them all. Now some other points in detail:- Pros - We were the first transfer drop off from the airport and it was a relatively short transfer time of approximately 40 minutes. - Hotel never felt overly busy despite it being August. There were busy spells during peak dining times but only short queues. At some points we had the pool to ourselves. Plenty of sun loungers and parasols available at all times. -the energy and enthusiasm of the Kids Club staff we found to be excellent. Although the activities are mainly in Spanish the staff tried hard to include our children by translating game instructions into English. There is a good programme of events for children - slime making, T-Shirt design, pool inflatables, mini disco etc. parents are able to stay with the children for a session or sign them in and out for the hour and a half. Should the management read this then perhaps they could include English clues in the pirate treasure hunt as this would also have helped to improve their experience at little cost. - the pool and evening entertainment team. My husband and I enjoyed the daily programme of exercises which had a great vibe. As a family we enjoyed the evening shows especially the Grand Circus which was Greatest Showman based and Mamma Mia. Con - Unfortunate first impressions. After an early start and a long day of travel to be greeted by a long queue at check in and only 2 staffed points was a disappointment. We waited for about 30 minutes and we were lucky enough to have joined the queue when it was fairly small. I feel this could have been easily resolved by a third member of staff ‘working the queue’, this person could explain the activity timetable and map of the resort which seemed to be adding to the length of time needed to check in. After our wait we were told that our room was not even ready and to wait for a call from check in or return at the check in time of 4pm. With children flailing we wearily returned to check in at 3:00 having had no call to be told we could check in so perhaps our call had been missed. I’m just glad we didn’t wait until 4pm! - if you are on half board it is worth noting that breakfast finishes at 10:30am and the evening meal isn’t until 8pm. There is an ice cream parlour open and a couple of other restaurants should you wish to pay for lunch. Full and half

Asia Gardens Hotel & Thai Spa, a Royal Hideaway Hotel

This is a very beautiful hotel, the gardens and pool areas are truly spectacular, however….. There is minimal service at the pools, it is difficult to get a drink and impossible to get any food or snacks which is a great shame as they could capitalise on this. Instead you are charged for changing your pool towel during the day €2 I believe which is pointless and only makes the customer angry at the meanness of such an expensive hotel. The pools are not heated - even the heated pool doesn’t feel heated. Although there are many restaurants they are not open every day - usually only one or two are open so it’s not quite the choice it appears. The quality of the food is poor and greatly overpriced. At the Italian restaurant the food was very poor except for the Mille Fueille dessert which was incredible - the pastry and the presentation were stunning. The main restaurant at the weekends is so overcrowded, it’s impossible to even get a pot of coffee as there are not enough staff. The room itself was the lowest available and perfect with a small garden. There wasn’t any milk for a cup of tea which would improve the stay for me anyway. I would like to say that one particular chap at the adult pool (at the bottom right of the gardens) he worked so hard all day keeping the beds, parasols and towels in order, keeping his customers happy - he was very conscientious about his job and really should be recognised for this. He worked Saturday and Sunday until around 4pm (that was 02/10/22) I would go back because the grounds and hotel in general are a treat for the eye but I would eat out elsewhere unless the prices are greatly reduced. Don’t be put off but be aware of a few faults which could be easily mended.

I don't know where to start with this as was amazing the minute we walked through the doors! On arrival we went to check in and straight away the lady on the desk noticed my mum has a walker and was straight on the phone, she was changing the location of our room due to my ms mobility We was booked in to the Annex but was moved to main building so easier for us, 19th floor wow the views were stunning. We had a junior wellness suite and was so spacious just as the pictures show. We was due a bottle of champagne on arrival which was missing from room but was probably due to room change but sorted out so quickly. All inclusive can be touch and go but this was probably the best I've been too ( which says a lot as I only do ai) yes some meals it was warm and not piping but so are all ai holidays. The show cooking was good, for breakfast you could have an omelette of your choice. Waiting staff so helpful and attentive, they are used to having the older clients as was so patient, my mum was a bit wobbly one morning on her feet and a member of staff stood with us until she was steady again. Pool area was nice although would be a bit snug in peak season. Pool was cold but expected for this time of year. All inclusive drinks range was so good, never been able to get glasses of cava before always been additional cost so i was content. Public areas and room was always clean. Any staff we came into contact with were so friendly and helpful and answer any questions we had. As part of the wellness suite we had a Thai massage included, the 2 ladies we had were amazing and very relaxed afterwards, they looked after mum really well. Was about 25/30 minutes walk to the beach but with mums mobility it took longer than it should, normally I would say 10/15 minutes. Shops along the way and plenty of supermarkets as well. Was a little up hill back to hotel but we made it fine. We would 1000% return in the future aams already looking at sept to bring hubby and mum along. The only negative which didn't affect us was there was no plates etc in the kitchen so if you wanted to cook or make sandwiches you couldn't. There was 2 cups to do coffee in and 2 glasses in the bathroom and that was it.

Hotel la Estacion

Benidorm|1.02km from city center
We spent 2 nights in this hotel because it was in quiet location and has free parking. It is literally 10 minutes car drive to Benidorm with all the hassle and bustle and silly hotel and parking prices. You could walk to the town in 20 to 30 minutes depending on your pace or you can catch a bus from the Bus Depot literally next door to the hotel - a taxi should not be too expensive either but we didn’t use it as we had our car. As others have remarked the hotel is in a quiet area and there are no shops in the immediate vicinity ( there used to be large shopping complex attached to the hotel but it has closed down leaving it looking deserted) but as already remarked it is not far from downtown Benidorm with all the bars and restaurants you might want! The hotel has a sauna and a gym but we didn’t have time to use either so can’t comment how good they are. The hotel room we were allocated was large ( 2 double beds) and clean. The only thing the room was simple but it met our needs - if you want luxurious interiors you need to look elsewhere - we would say the rooms would be on par to a Holiday Inn Express or Premier Inn but much larger with good cupboard space and large bathrooms. The only thing to say about our room was that it was right opposite the fire station and the 2 days we were there the fire engines set off with their sirens early in the morning (0700hrs) which woke us up so you might want to request a room that is not opposite the fire station in case they are called out on other calls early in the morning - we heard no sirens during the night so they must like in other parts of the world maintain silence during the night hours. Some people have complained about the mattress but we had no trouble and slept really well on the beds. Only thing to say is the mattresses in our room were memory foam so expect them to be hard if you are not used to it. The room was too warm for us but were thankful for the windows which could be opened which let in just the right amount of cool air to make it comfortable to sleep. The room has air con but like other hotels we have stayed in it is centrally controlled so in the winter it only pushes out hot air and you can’t adjust it to the cold setting to push out cool air. The breakfast is great value and we thought for the money was excellent. It caters for almost everyone - cold meats, fruit, yogurts, tea/coffee on tap, best toaster we have experienced in hotels which actually toasts your bread(!), selection of breads, mini croissants, selection of sweet pastries, selection of cereals, fried eggs, bacon, sausages ( 1st day of our stay we had pork sausages which were lovely but on our second day we had the Spanish red sausages which look like like hit dogs which weren’t to our taste but there was plenty of other stuff so no problems!), beans (but don’t expect Heinz beans in thick sauce - the tomato sauce was quite watery and runny but this is not unusual we have found in other hotels we have

I'll start with the good. First impressions; the hotel was very clean, quite modern and secure as you couldn't even use the reception toilets unless you had a room key. We had access to the pool and facilities straightaway even though our rooms weren't ready and you can hire a towel for a 10e deposit. The rooms were ready on time (3pm), clean & quite spacious. The shower was super powerful. The checkin was quick & easy with the polite & helpful staff. Venturing out into the world of Benidorm we quickly realised the hotel was perfectly located. Close enough but still quiet enough for a good night's sleep. The pool was a lovely temperature and there was always somewhere to sit or lie. Drinks in the bar reasonably priced too. On to the bad. The rooms keys kept having to be reset and the air-con in the room only just coped. Cleaner barely cleaned and little things like the tv remote not having batteries in and the shower, although powerful, was so low anyone over 5ft tall had to bend down to use it - slightly annoying but not a game-changer. What was really bad for us was the ummm level of hotel visitors... Most were ok but I can see why people complain and our weekend was almost completely ruined by a very angry Liverpool man who wanted to kill all southerners and threatened to slit our throats over Liz Truss being in charge. He only asked if we had a lighter and then went crazy. Clearly had issues. This was 5pm in the afternoon by the way. I would stay here again but avoid all other guests. Equally I would probably pay a bit more and hope for a 4 star hotel (and 4 star guests).

Just on our last day out of 5, if your thinking of booking here thinking your going to get quality don’t bother, this hotel is getting seriously shabby having stayed here before 10years ago it’s gone seriously downhill since! PROS: Friendly Staff Kettle in room CONS: Dated miserable rooms flakey headboards, bad lighting, horrendously over priced mini bar, cleaning standards are poor, the hairdryer broke and the maintenance guy fetched another that should have screwed to the wall just plugged it in and expected me to use it with the wall incasing stuck to the wire, I went out and bought one. Pool area seriously dirty, the ground is never washed, toilets never have soap and rarely have toilet roll, drinks at the bar way overpriced, €9 for a smoothie and Diet Coke. Breakfast is horrific the layout makes no sense everyone bumping into each other, condiments at the beginning so everyone’s backing up, food is cold, Bacon is slimy, queue for coffee machine takes the mick, the cups are so small it’s gone in two mouthfuls, never any melon or fresh tomatoes just tinned fruit, I went out and bought my own things to take down and just had the toast. We got bitten quite badly too in the day which was strange as we’ve never been bitten in Spain before, think it’s the grubbiness of the hotel there were loads of stale water puddles around the pool area. The gym is the very worst hotel gym I have used there are 2 bikes and 2 cross trainers none of them work, just there for show hardly any matching weights either and god knows the last time it was cleaned, it’s like the forgotten room. This hotel is in serious need of renovation, it should now way be given 4 star status a 3 and a poor 3 at that

This is a Warning about the times chosen to eat half board at Hotel Melina. We've just returned from a weeks stay based on half board. We chose to have Breakfast and Dinner instead of Breakfast and Lunch. Breakfast wasn't bad , very average for Spain but it was the food quality and selection on the Evening Dinner that let us down. The first meal on the Sunday seemed to be pretty good but then it went down hill. You could tell that some of the food was recycled dishes from Lunch, the soup was limited and not an attractive option. We were usually one of the first into the Dining room ( due to late and starving) which didn't open UNTIL 8pm. Not Good. It was only on the Thursday that we decided to have a sneak into the LUNCHTIME session to see what was served up on that sitting as against our Dinner Menu. We found a BIG difference in the Selection and quality on offer at Lunch. Things like Paella (my favourite) Corn on the Cob, Better items on offer including a big better choice of Soups and Quantity all which we never had on our Dinner Menu. We felt we had been mugged by the food on offer on our Evening Dinner dining menu. So our Warning is DON'T CHOOSE THE 8PM DINING you get a much better choice and selection on the LUNCHTIME menu. Plus 8pm is a bit too late to have to wait for your Evening dinner but its a very Spanishy traditional Hotel which probably accounts for the late situ. As far as the hotel itself is concerned, it was brilliant. Spotlessly clean, great staff, lovely room, quiet position, comfy beds, convenient location.

Lovely hotel for a 3 star....had a nice room on the 4th floor over looking the pool, was very clean, towels changed daily. Walk in shower which was great. Nice big TV with all the channels, fridge and safe. A lot complained about the food, but we've never eat as healthy and good, loved the choices of fish, cheeses and fresh fruits. Entertainment at night was ok, seeing we were in a centre location, the bar staff were great, never had to wait long for drinks either. As this was a budget holiday, we had a great time, the weather was amazing, only one cloudy day. Hope to be back soon. Thanks again Sol Pelicanos and your wonderful staff

Firstly, the location is great and value for money. Stayed for 5 nights in a suite with two bedrooms and one bathroom. The balcony was a good size. Per pictures expected bung beds and got an uncomfortable settee. The other beds were hard but paper thin walls with next door snoring and tv you could hear from next door. This hotel doesn’t cater for English, and we found the majority of the staff to be unhelpful and looked miserable. The bar staff were under pressure at nights and you struggled to get a drink. The day we left there was a very helpful lady on reception who organised a taxi for us. The food was ok, normal gripe that it’s not that warm but find that in Spain. They put on a Christmas Eve banquet which was very nice, maybe by charging more every day the food could be at that quantity. We found the entertainment wasn’t that great and it looked like the same two acts returned every week.

Looked to stay in the Old Town and the location couldn’t be better on “Gin and Tonic” street with Tapas Alley next door. It’s an excellent 3 star hotel, everything is immaculately clean, room was spacious (we had a leak from upstairs in the bathroom on arrival, which was taken care of immediately or we had the choice of another room, so cannot fault the staff) Lovely roof terrace to sunbathe and the barman in the downstairs bar was friendly and attentive. It was lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by in the evening. We went half board and are not fussy eaters, however, the food was mostly cold at both breakfast and dinner which would put us off booking half board again. They just need to invest in some hot plates and that would be remedied though. Lovely to have a bottle of wine included in the evening meal and again, everything is very clean. Would we return? Yes. As it’s such a great location, Staff are attentive and the place is sparkling.
