The Crown Inn is situated in the heart of a very pretty area called Benson. It’s easy to get around without a car as the bus routes to Wallingford, Reading and Oxford are easily accessible within walking distance on flat pavements. A local shop and pharmacy is in the same road and a few metres up the road. The Inn itself was built in the 1800s and is very established in the area attracting its fair share of local patrons of its well stocked and spacious pub. The inn has a sense of history with slightly crooked walls and uneven floors - the cause of some amusement for me. The property is owned by the Hook Norton Brewery and on arrival in your room, you receive a complimentary bottle of beer on the first night along with the regular daily refreshes of water, bodum coffee, tea and biscuits. The rooms are comfortable, clean and somewhat quirky - each is decorated differently and comes equipped with TV, fan, hairdryer and small bathroom. Toiletries provided are liquid soap, shampoo and body lotion. One thing though, there is no bar fridge in the room - just ask the staff for milk if you need it for your room for the tea/coffee station. Breakfast is available as a Continental and/or Hot breakfast with a variety of choices including vegetarian. Very tasty with great personal service. Check what your room rate includes. The small but well executed menu for lunch and dinner is a popular choice for guests and patrons alike. The manager, Gus (he’s a Kiwi - but don’t hold it against him 😉!) is personable and social and the perfect host. He and his team go the great lengths to make your stay a pleasant and memorable one. We had some great chats about the World Cup rugby 😊 Give them a try next time you’re in the area and be surprised and delighted by the warmth and attention that you receive. If you’re looking for something authentic, good value for money and where you can return to again and again, this is your place!
