NH Bergamo

Bergamo|0.85km from city center
Hotel is well located to explore Bergamo City with some of the local piazzas within 10-12 minutes walking time. We took taxis on multiple occasions between the Hotel and Bergamo Airport (BGY) and found the cost to vary significantly (between 44EUR and 16EUR). The rooms are of an acceptable standard for European Cities and provided value for money (156EUR / night incl breakfast). The breakfast offered good continental choices with some hot options. I would consider returning to this hotel again only if the price was appealing. The hotel had some aspects which let it down but could be easy to fix... The standard hotel Wi-Fi connection is shockingly poor and did not even have the ability to sustain browsing of basic web pages. There is an option to upgrade to premium Wi-Fi at a cost of 10EUR per day. As someone who travels globally for business on a regular basis, I find this very disappointing. The water temperature was not consistent and fluctuated significantly 2 seconds from hot to cold, making it impossible to have a comfortable shower. Use of the hotel fitness room needs to be booked in advance and is limited to 1 person at a time - this was not obvious and not advised during check-in. In addition to this the hotel carried out a test of the fire alarm during our stay, however there was not enough suitable notification of this test made available to guests. When the alarm was activated, I immediately called reception to be told that there was a notice about it on the reception desk (only of any use if you had visited the reception desk to find this out as it was not present when we checked in the previous evening. The check-in staff could have advised this verbally or even a letter under the door of each room - although I understand that this may not be in accordance with the company's environmental policy - if so then they need to explore other alternatives to ensure suitable communication with guests). Like I said all small aspects which are disappointing and can be easily rectified for the enhancement of future guests.

Hotel Piazza Vecchia

Hotel Piazza Vecchia

Città Alta Bergamo|1.37km from city center
There are a huge number of positives for staying at the Hotel Piazza Vecchia. It is a charming, historic property in the heart of Bergamo’s Citta Alta (Bergamo’s old town), a short walk from all the main sights of this delightful city. The location is superb, close to lots of excellent restaurants and shops, the funicular stops and the main historic sights of the city. Most of the accommodation seems to be near the station which is 15-20 minute walk to the funicular that takes you up to the historic old town (or another 15-20 minute walk up the hill if you are athletic) so it makes a lot of sense to stay here if tourism is the reason why you come to town. The hotel is located off one of the main old town streets, up a short flight of stairs to the reception desk. It’s eighteen steps, and a stairlift is available if you need help. To the three floors where the rooms are located there is a small lift. The check in and out was efficient and friendly, the receptionists are always welcoming and speak English. They really want to boost tourism to the city and were very nice to speak to. The written communication isn’t quite as strong. Before we arrived we requested an airport pick up, which they provide through a local driver who is very nice and speaks good English. We got no confirmation to say this was arranged so emailed again to be told that it was arranged. The pick up was fine but when we went to confirm the return to the airport we found the time they had was wrong. It was soon sorted out, but I would recommend double checking the details. Parking is also available at a nearby site. Our room was on the third floor. It had a balcony with a view of rooftops and the hills behind the city, a large TV (but only with Italian channels), good WiFi, a wardrobe and a very small safe, which again showed for us that Reception is a little inconsistent. I went to use it, followed the instructions and then couldn’t open it. I informed Reception (luckily, I had nothing in the safe) and that it needed resetting, but it didn’t happen during our time at the hotel. There is also a coffee machine, fridge and a comfortable bed and an air conditioner/heater. They provide cups, glasses and a corkscrew. The most irritating thing about the room we stayed in was that there was no ceiling light, just a wall light and three lamps, making the room quite dark and impossible to find anything in the wardrobe or drawers after dark without a torch. The only other downside to the room was that there was only one bin, a small one in the bathroom so it filled up quickly. The room also had a desk, a table and seats, which weren’t that comfortable, they were like garden furniture, so I suspect that they go on the balcony when the weather improves. The bathroom had a good shower. The sink was nicely designed but a bit impractical, with a sloping bottom to it and an overhanging tap which made shaving or washing your face awkward. Housekeeping was fine but the time they clean is very in

Casa Mario Lupo - Apartments and Rooms

Città Alta Bergamo|0.07km from Duomo (S. Alessandro)
We recently returned from spending a very enjoyable week at Casa Mario Lupa. The building is a typical medieval house in the small medieval city of Bergamo run by Gianmauro and his wife. The rooms are very large and the bed and pillows are extremely comfortable even for my very fussy husband! We had a lounge with a TV, kitchen area, shower room and separate bedroom which suited us very much as it meant that I could sleep while my husband stayed up later. There are very loud bells from the cathedral nearby which start at 7.30am with the last ones at 10pm. They didn't bother us at all as we felt they added to the atmosphere and acted as our alarm clock in the mornings! Breakfast consisted of tea or coffee, fruit juice, fruit and delicious bread rolls. The house is in a small quiet street near the restaurants, coffee shops, and venicular which takes you down to lower Bergamo. There is also a regular number 1 bus that will take you to the airport and the train station where you can get cheap train travel to Milan - one hour, Venice -3 hours, Verona and Lake Garda etc. Gianmauro is a wonderful host, very friendly is very helpful and has a great deal of knowledge of the area. He will also meet and return you to the airport if you don't want to take the bus. All in all a perfect holiday! Thank you Gian PS just one small suggestion, a couple of long life capsules of milk and some teabags or coffee upon arrival would be most welcome. Luckily we found the minimarket just as it was closing up for the day!

Hotel Excelsior San Marco

Excellent hotel near funicular to Cite Alta (old town) of Bergamo overlooking a park area. Had a room with a balcony (but only one seat) Friendly helpful staff in all areas. Comfortable bed and good shower ( over the bath) excellent self serve breakfast. Bus stop to /from airport across the street. Train station 20 /30 min walk away. Frequent trains to Milan and Lecco (on shore of Lake Como ) for day trips. Arrived on Bank holiday and very busy …huge queues for funicular but bus just as handy for Cite Alta ….can get a 72 hour bus ticket for €12. The hotel has a beautiful rooftop restaurant but unfortunately it is open only to diners( not for a drink) and is rather expensive ! and the hotel doesn’t offer any other dining option.

Very new property. Due to the period, my choice is oriented to accomodations which allow the self check-in, without the need to get in contact with other people. After following an easy and quick procedure to provide my details, I received the codes of the building and my room. Very recommended for the location, just out of the property you are in a pedestrian area with bars, nice restaurants and any kind of shops.
B&B Hotel Bergamo

Stayed here for two nights. Had stayed before in the “old town” area of Bergamo which was lovely. This area would be considered “run down”. It’s a 5-10 minute walk to the main town for coffee shops, restaurants etc. Previous reviews commented how welcoming, friendly, helpful etc the reception staff were but I didn’t get that experience. Reception area is right inside the door so it can be crowded arriving and leaving with luggage, prams etc. Room was adequately spaced. Could have been given extra towels (three for a single room is basic), also needed a fridge and water glasses etc in the room. Floors could have been hoovered so make sure you wear slippers (not included in the room)! Didn’t include breakfast in my stay and glad I didn’t cos the selection looked limited. This hotel is fine for a short stay but perhaps look elsewhere if staying for longer.
Hotel Citta Dei Mille

This hotel are thieves, after booking me and my girlfriend to stay for three days (she’s not from Italy). when we presented at the Hotel Città Dei Mille for the check-in they told us that we need a “super green pass” (we’re vaccinated 2 doses and we had a negative PCR covid test) . They told us to access the Hotel Città Dei Mille you need to have the third dose, but the Hotel Città Dei Mille didn’t tell us this before coming neither the booking website it wasn’t written anywhere we checked many times in front of them. so we looked for another place to stay, when we asked for a reimbursement the Hotel Città Dei Mille said they don’t reimburse FOR NON PRESENTATION. Shame on you Hotel Città Dei Mille Bergamo Lombardia Italia, this not a good customer service at all if you have economic problems don’t take it from your client’s pocket. The reimbursement amount we asked for was just 200€ Have a nice day
