Hotel Pension Bernstein am Kurfürstendamm

There are two good points maybe three, the location of the hotel is really good. The breakfast was ok And the size of the room was okay. However... We asked for a cot which we did receive but it was not usable nor was it safe nor should it have ever been put in a room. The sides were ripped, the zip on the front of the flap had broken and there was no way of doing it up. There was a disgusting duvet rolled up as a mattress despite it saying quite clearly in 14 different languages including German that you are not allowed to add a mattress to the cot as it was a suffocation risk. We complained about the cot being broken to which they acknowledged they knew about and suggested we add a load of pillows and push it against the wall. I did suggest it was replaced, Suddenly their English was not very good they had no replacement available, nor did they make any effort to go out and replace it during our stay. We did not use the cot, we did try to repair it using elastic but did not feel safe so we went out and purchased a replacement ourselves. The first morning at breakfast the strap on the high chair was missing, actually looked as though it had perished, this was the middle strap which stops a child slipping through, again they were aware of this and said basically oh well there's nothing we can do about it. This was easy to fix ourselves by using a luggage strap from our bag. Again no attempt was made to replace it. I find it completely unacceptable that they would think it was okay to provide furniture for a 10 month child in such poor condition.

The hotel was very basic which included both the accommodation and breakfast. Staff were friendly. Hotel is right next to Augsberger underground station which is very handy to get around. Avoid taxis if possible. 20 euro to drive 4km and then they expect tips as well. It is worth getting the 24 hour underground passes if you are not big walkers. The city is huge so the underground system is very recommended. Overall the hotel was okay and I would look for something different if I was to come back to Berlin.

My second stay here! Many of the simple rooms overlook a charming courtyard. The staff are very attentive and efficient - the breakfast which is generally included in the room price is excellent. If you want a quiet traditional hotel in a terrific location, Hotel-Pension Bernstein is WELL worth considering!

Staff was super helpful. Really dug the neighborhood. Great, old building that somehow survived the WWII. Liked the double pained, double framed window system. I highly recommend as it was close to the Metro station, easy to get to many of the attractions of the city, as well as eat reasonably with a wide variety right near the hotel. Good stay.
