On a recent bus tour, we spent one night at this hotel. The hotel seems to be new to Best Western and there were limitations. The bedroom was clean and comfortable as were the beds. However there was no air-conditioning so we had to sleep with the windows open. This gave rise to another problem as there is a mainline railway station in close proximity. The double glazing in the windows was poor and this did not reduce the train noise. There was no fridge in the room which was a disappointment. The food menu was lacking in choice; three dishes, one Indian, one Mexican and one Italian. The food was good but a traditional English dish should have been provided. The curry was quite good. The bar was fresh out of Fawlty Towers; the barman had no experience of bar work as a result of which service was slow and a queue formed. The bottle of Australian shiraz was good value for the price. Breakfast was good and consisted of egg, bacon, hash brown and beans. We weren't asked to order, it all came plated up. The staff were friendly but some were inexperienced. There was nothing that training will not rectify. I would definitely stay there again in spite of the shortcomings.
