Holiday Inn Leeds - Bradford

Firstly the positives of Tong Park Hotel. We arrived and the first impression was ok. Reception and lobby were attractive. Check in was smooth and the receptionist was pleasant and friendly. There was some confusion over charges, as we were initially over charged, which after pointing this out was refunded. The bedroom was an executive upgrade, and I guess for the extra £20 was worth it, although, in my opinion, not especially executive. It was spacious, with a nice bathroom and spotlessly clean. The furniture was very dated. We had dinner in the hotel, we were a little apprehensive when we checked past reviews, but we went ahead. Firstly all the staff were friendly and welcoming and they definitely need recognition. The dinner was just ok, nothing special, but ok, nicely cooked rare steak, although it comes with nothing, everything else is extra, so frozen chips and onion rings. Breakfast the following morning I would give a miss. The cheapest possible products, instant coffee, tinned fruit salad, cheapest sliced bread, frozen sausages etc. I recommend going to the garden centre 2 mins down the road for breakfast. It is a shame, this hotel has every opportunity to be good. It is clear it is owned and run by business people with little hotelier experience, the basics are missing, the attention to detail and the customer centric attitude in the products and services offered, (or not offered) should be paramount, and not based on what the owners want, but what the customers want. It just has a feel as if anything will do. To repeat the staff are the best asset of this hotel, however I feel they are fighting a losing battle and need support and investment from the management. I doubt I will stay again, but hope it improves.

This is an interesting hotel quite close to Skipton. The ground floor at the front - main road is on the 1st floor and at the back it's the basement. Staircases are quite narrow and, until you get used to them, a bit of a rabbit warren. The automatic check in / door security system are based on the last 6 letters of your mobile followed by the *. I was there three nights and only got it completely right on the last morning. My room was in the attic space but comfortable enough if you remembered to duck round the sloping ceiling. The breakfast was the highlight of my stay as Karen, the only human I encountered during my visit (except other guests), always had a lovely welcome and was ready to take your orders. Tea, coffee, milk, juices, cereals and fruit were self-service but a selection of cooked breakfasts are available. Interesting, boutique ish hotel with a large free car park behind.

This is NOT the hotel to stay at if you are disabled. Two Accessible rooms on ground floor but only had baths and not purpose built shower. The room on the first floor had disabled shower which was nice and big however to get to this you had 3 sets of stairs to climb!!! The lift was out dated and therefore decommissioned. For me it was extremely difficult going up and down these stairs. The room was big and clean. The breakfast was pretty basic - dried up fried eggs, dried out and almost unchewable bacon, sausages looked only half cooked. Overall the hotel is looking pretty tired and could do with updating. The male receptionist who checked us in and was very helpful in his efforts to accommodate.

We arrived on Saturday 1st of October around 2pm having driven up from Birmingham. We checked in ( having booked a superior room) which apparently entitled us to a free coffee, a bottle of water and a free biscuit during our stay. Upon arrival we asked if we could eat in the restaurant as we were hungry. We were told it was shut, then it was open, then it was shut, nobody seemed to actually know. We wandered in and were seated and told by someone ( who I think must have been their first day) that MAYBE we could eat. It was getting a little ridiculous by now. YES, indeed we could eat. Great. He came back to take our order having not given us a menu. Eventually someone else who seemed a little more clued up gave us scruffy photocopies of about the five dishes we could choose from, when i mentioned the menu I had seen in reception seemed a little more varied he replied in a pleasant but not even vaguely apologetic manner ” oh yes we haven't got a proper chef in so we have a very limited menu”. Hmm, right, so we ordered a pizza and some fries to share with a couple of soft drinks. In fairness we didn't have to wait too long and it was tasty enough and filled a hole. We then negotiated a long queue in reception to get the lift up to our room. EXCEPT WE COULDN'T. Because the door TO the lift would not open with the key card we had. Neither would it open for the receptionist with HER key.. she then got us another which got us through the door to the lift, lift safely deposited us on our floor, we got to our room, only to find our key wouldn't open our door. Our door to our ”superior” room. Great. Except it wasn't because now my other half had to go down back to the reception and explain this, a task not made any easier by what seemed, on first glance, to be half of Spain populating the reception area. Never mind, no matter, so now he has to run up seven flights of stairs to get back to our room because he couldn't get into the lift. Ok, right, so NOW we are into our room, which did not turn out to be in any way superior and exactly what you would expect in any budget hotel and not even as spacious. It had all the basics, just soap and shower gel in dispensers ( not very superior) it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The tv was a night mare to negotiate and one of the lights did not work. No matter, we only changed and slept in the room. All in all the visit was pretty much comedy and, while we didn't pay a fortune for it things that work ( like room keys) and people who knew what was open or shut ( like restaurants and menu details) MAY have been nice. I knew we should have done Premier Inn for less because the Jury's DEFFO in on this, and we found it guilty on several counts. Shame.

🚗 Transportation: Right next to Bradford train station, very convenient 🧹Hygiene: average, not outstanding and not too much of a problem, maybe a bit old 🍃Environment: Very classical, a classical hotel that can be seen from the name 🔔Service: The mirror is hot and it is interesting to prevent fogging
