The Great House Hotel

Upon arrival all seems fine. Beautiful grade II listed building. Through the bar area the theme is much the same, lots of character and friendly reception staff. All changes when you step foot into your cheap and nasty hotel room which feels like you’ve arrived at another hotel! Besides the decor, the room was dirty, with several holes in the walls and on the floor, cracked mirrors, leaking shower, and a toilet on the verge of coming away from the wall! We were intending on having breakfast, but after reading other reviews on here, and based on the standard of the room we decided against it. Overall very disappointed with this hotel, and would recommend others take heed before booking!

I’m back again for another business visit as a female solo traveller. As always, it never disappoints from Emily on reception to the locals in the bar. I’m treated like an old friend and I love the charm of the place. Keep doing what you’re doing.

We recently had a wedding (sat 20th)everything was perfect. The professional way you looked after us was outstanding. All the staff were polite and very hard working. Location was spot on .the food was superb compliments to the chef.the rooms were lovely.you made my wife and myself feel very special. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Allocated room was nice but very hot, the radiator was broken so could not be turned down or off. I was given another room which looked to be an upgrade, for no extra cost. Customer service very good. Plenty of car parking space. Comfortable bed and very clean.

I was booked here for my works meal in the restaurant down the road. I was thankful at check in that I was in the main building as I’d seen the reviews of the annex buildings. Welcome was great, the young man was friendly and informative. The building is gorgeous especially with Christmas. I had the keys to Room 3 and I made my way up the short staircase to the room. Initial impression wasn’t great. The doors were peeling of pain. A simple sand and re paint would sort this. The room initially was warm, clean and welcoming with what looked like a modern shower. The windows are wet and old but it’s a grade listed building, not much they can do. Upon further inspection, it’s just rough around the edges. Holes in the wall with make shift patching. Mold in the shower and grouting. A hood clean and DIY would sort this. The walls are very thin. I could heard my neighbour shower and dry their hair with a hairdryer. Regardless I slept well. Breakfast was in Avery festive room. Is it really necessary to play Christmas songs at breakfast? The fruit was amazing! Host at breakfast in personal. Kept feeling watched. Had the veggie breakfast which was lovely and some toast. Overall, a nice building but some touches would make it more welcoming
