Courtyard by Marriott Brisbane South Bank

South Brisbane|0.24km from Queensland Maritime Museum
Stayed here for 7 nights at the beginning of April. Check in was quick and although we requested a quiet room, we were sadly given a room that faced onto a road and the helipad of the children’s hospital. So, the room was rather noisy from the traffic and from helicopter landing and taking off at night. Even with ear plugs on I could still hear the traffic. Room: Room 714 was very clean, it seems the Australian standards of cleanliness is much higher and better than at our previous Marriott stays in Cardiff, Wales and in Edinburgh, Scotland. Housekeeping at this hotel is very thorough at cleaning, as we didn’t feel any dust on the surfaces. My partner is blind and the first thing he does is touch the surfaces to get to know the layout of the room and he was impressed that tables, chairs & walls didn’t feel dusty. The housekeeping ladies always provided us with fresh towels and 2 bottles of water daily, as well as change the bed linen when requested. These ladies (day as well as evening housekeeping) are all lovely and friendly, requests for extra toilet paper, tissues, even slippers, toothbrush and toothpaste were promptly supplied with a smile. The housekeeping team at this hotel should be commended for keeping rooms/bathroom clean to a high standard. Reception: The ladies at reception Jess and other lady (who doesn’t wear a name badge) are efficient when checking people in however, they were not so friendly once you’ve checked in, they both came across as cold, sourpusses. Every day we went past reception and these 2 ladies never smiled or said hello. Once we initiated a hello and got a forced response. The male reception staff at night and on the days when the ladies were off are much better as they always greeted people as they walked past reception. Location: This hotel is perfectly located as it is close to all the restaurants in the Southbank and there’s lots to choose from. It is also about 2 mins walk to Goodwill bridge which connects to the Botanical Gardens. From this hotel everything is within walking distance, we walked to Queen Street shopping mall daily and it took us about 10 mins via Southbank parklands and crossing the bridge. We are not super fast walkers but we found everything in close proximity to this hotel. We will definitely stay at this hotel again when we return to Australia next year.

Quest South Brisbane

South Brisbane|0.5km from Queensland Maritime Museum
We stayed here for 8 days as a family of 4. 2 adults and 2 children. BE AWARE..... These are not 2 bedroom apartments. There are no pictures on the website and when you book, there was no mention of what the actuall room setup is. We found out our 2 bedroom apartment is actually 2 individual rooms that they turn into a apartment by a connecting hallway. 1 room was a 1 bedroom apartment, with 1 small 2 seater couch, small living area, table and chairs, bathroom and only just a kitchen. The other room is a room with large bed, kitchen area in same room and bathroom. We had to keep both doors open all the times to make like an apartment. Both these doors open to a cold tiled long hallway. This meant the door was in the way of one of the kitchens the whole trip. We did not feel comfortable with the children sleeping in one room by themselves as the rooms werent close to each other. For family of 4 spending a fair bit of time in the apartment in the evening, the small 2 seater couch and small lounge area was not sufficient for us to be together in the one area. Rooms were serviced daily. Both rooms had kitchens, but were lacking enough utensils etc for a family of 4, as these are obviously not used for a family. So be careful when booking this location if you are looking for an apartment for a family. I now know why there is no photos and no mention of what the actual setup is when you book. The description on the website for the 2 bedroom apartment is not what it is. If i had of known what we were actually booking, we would not have stayed at this location. On checking in, i was told that i had a great deal. I now see why it is expensive as you are pretty much booking out 2 different rooms to get 1 2 bed apartment. Who needs 2 average kitchens??? Location is pretty good. just a short walk to southbank.

Opera Apartments South Brisbane
4.4/562 Reviews
To be honest, I'm not sure how Opera Apartments South Bank has such a high rating. Here's a breakdown of the good and bad. Good: o Fully equipped kitchen o Balcony with outdoor table and chairs o WiFi is good at >50/50 Mbps. o The rooftop pool and BBQ areas are nice. The pool is a great place from which to watch the sunset. o Fantastic location. Very convenient for attending conferences at the exhibition centre. Bad: o Cockroaches in our bathroom and kitchen! Once it was dark, cockroaches came out in our bathroom and kitchen. On the first night, we killed four in the bathroom and two in the kitchen. o The front door has no signage to indicate where to enter Opera apartments. The door to enter the building does not automatically open and often the reception is unattended. So you have to use the keypad at the door to even gain entry to the building. We saw lots of new arrivals who were left very confused by the system. o We arrived at 12:30 pm and checked in, but as check-in time is not until 2 pm we dropped our luggage and then went off to grab lunch and coffee. We returned at 2 pm but were advised that our room still wasn't ready. We were told the room would be ready at 2:40 pm. Since we had already had lunch, we had nothing to do but sit around in the reception area until our room was ready. At 2:47 pm we were advised that the room would be ready in 10 mins. The room was then ready at 2:57 pm. When we entered the room it had a chemical smell and the kitchen floor was still wet after cleaning. o The walls were covered in dust. Additionally, all the air conditioning vents were caked with dust. There was an insane amount of dust behind the bed. As someone with allergies, we had to be very careful not to disturb the dust otherwise I would have been sneezing the whole time. o No tissues were provided. o No towels were provided for the pool. o The hallway had an unpleasant smell. Then the room also smelt but it was a completely different unpleasant smell. o The tv was fairly small. Only about 40”. o We were on level 3 and we couldn't have our balcony door open as there was a loud noise from air conditioning units under us and the building next door. With the door closed though the noise of the air-conditioning units outside wasn't an issue (but then you're trapped with the smell!) Overall, I do not recommend Opera Apartments South Bank. Complete waste of money. Still traumatised from all the cockroaches coming out during the night and the smell in the apartment.

This hotel is very close to the Kangaroo Point and not far from the South Bank. Hotel facilities are clean, there is a small refrigerator in the room; the kitchen of the hotel can easily process food; there is a swimming pool outside, the children are very happy; there is a small supermarket nearby, you can buy some food and return to the hotel to process it yourself; there are also bars and restaurants around; The handsome guy is warm and thoughtful. Recommended.

For breakfast, they cooperated with another restaurant. The environment is very good and the choices are abundant. For accommodation, we are on the 8th floor, just in time to catch upstairs to repair the subway, it is quite noisy.

I stayed at Capsules first which were really comfy, squeaky sometimes though which was the only issue other than that good, there are air cons inside of them, usb charging stations, different sets of neon lights, etc. 2 rooms which are connected to each other, 4 capsules in each room, there was also a little balcony. Capsule rooms are typically quite and good to get some rest when super tired. Then, I moved to 8xbed dorm which wasn't too bad, can be a bit disgusting though sometimes depending on who you stay with, I mean when they spray the F* out of the room with their cheap sh*t-smelling deodorant - you have to breathe! Breeeathe! Other than that you get what you pay for pretty much, it was like 120 bucks a week (end-2021 price). There is a balcony, a much better one than the one in the capsule room, there is also a shower and toilet. Obviously, not much of a privacy as you'd inevitably see and hear everything what's happening in the room, for more privacy - capsules or private rooms which are super-expensive if you're a traveller or student!
