Firstly you have to remember this is an old thatched cottage. We were staying in the Earl Grey Room. There were very steep narrow stairs leading up to the room which would be tricky if you had mobility issues, There was a bath and shower head but you could only really use the bath and not the shower as there was no room to stand up. Once you get used to the room and its low height doorways, and odd walls it’s a quirky room to stay in, bed was comfortable and toilet was good. Now breakfasts were very good. Lovely cooked full english and we also had generous maple and bacon pancakes, and a big shout out to the wonderful waitress Daisy who was lovely and gave us some great ideas of places to visit in the area. Lepe beach was a good find. We returned later to have a very generous afternoon tea which we could recommend. So all in all a very good visit once you accept the quirkiness of staying in a 400 year old room!

This is a beautiful hotel run by lovely people. We stayed in the Earl Grey room which is rustic and tastefully decorated. They have thought of everything with fantastic tea and coffee making facilities, beautiful homemade cinnamon shortbread, a great TV and a fridge with fresh milk and water. There was a bath with shower attachment and the water was wonderfully hot when we used the bath. The room was accessible via a steep staircase. The quirkiness of this feature and the other historic features of this hotel added to the charm for us but take note if you have mobility issues. Breakfast was excellent with generous portions and the staff in the tea shop were great (Hi Steve!). Brockenhurst is a beautiful village and the perfect location for exploring the New Forest. All in all a wonderful break and we would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anybody wanting to visit the New Forest. Staying in a thatched cottage was a first for us and we really enjoyed it.

Exceptional little hotel in the middle of town. Lovely room, coffee, tea, milk, water all provided. Breakfast was also very good with plenty of choice in the little coffee shop behind the hotel. Parking out front. No problems whatsoever.

We stayed here for two nights last week and the hotel is amazing. The building is very old with a beautiful thatched roof that makes the hotel even more charming. The room was lovely and we could see that the owners had made a real effort to make the room look special. It is very quiet and we both had a great sleep. The attached tea rooms where we had our breakfast was one of the best breakfasts we have ever had. Helen who owns the hotel was such a lovely lady and she made our stay even more special. We will definitely be back again and would recommend this hotel to any couples wanting a quiet stay in the heart of the New Forest.

We stayed for one night in the Assam and Patchouli rooms. Both were wonderful. Warm, comfortable and inviting. Clean and well maintained. We had access to a little lounge area which was lovely. Breakfast was filling and delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Couldn’t ask for more. Will definitely return and stay longer

We had lunch in the Esme tea room today. Delicious! My husband chose the Agister forest board and the scotch egg was out of this world! The best thing ever! We all tried it. I’d also recommend the carrot cake too. Yummy yum yum! Great for lunch after a 2 hour family bike ride!

Beautiful setting, well appointed room, great bathroom and superb service when I asked for the room to be swapped from a double to a twin, it was changed rapidly and with all courtesy while I enjoyed a pot of tea and two lovely fresh scones. Charming decor and comfy spotless beds and bathroom. I might ask to bring the dogs next time and get out and enjoy the forest fully!

We stumbled across this beautiful thatched cottage hotel with Esme Tearooms attached (and garden). As it was a sunny day we sat in the garden and ordered a Cream Tea. Thinking it would be one scone and tea but to our surprise it was two scones each and a large pot of tea. With the surroundings it was so lovely.
Response from Property: Thank you for your excellent 5 star review! We are delighted that you enjoyed your Afternoon Tea so much.

This was an anniversary surprise by my partner and I seriously hope he didn’t pay the £149 that is on the website. The room looked nothing like those on the pictured on the website. We had a room in the eaves. There were no handles to get out of the bath, you would need to be flexible as there was very little head height. We looked at the mattress protector after breakfast. It had urine stains on it, a small blood stain and a small pink sticky mark. We had informed the hotel a week before arriving that I was gluten-free. The kitchen were only told yesterday. There was no gluten-free sausages. The bacon was very undercooked and fatty and the bread had obviously come straight out of the freezer. The undercooked bottom half was soft, the top half was toasted and solid. The mushrooms came straight out of a tin. The Decaf latte was so strong I had to add sugar to it. They people in the room underneath us had their television on so loud we had to turn our TV up to hear it. There was talking during the night and when we woke up this morning, their television was on. I understand that the Hotel could do nothing about this. I advise only short people should stay in this room as the doorways are so low and the stairs are very deep and only half a shoe width.
Response from Property: Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay and perhaps a 400 year old thatched cottage was not what you were looking for. We have pictures of all of our rooms - including the one you booked - on our website. Our bedding - including the mattress protectors - are laundered at every changeover so we are sorry that was not clean the next morning. Our kitchen is always informed the day before about a gluten free - or any other special request. The bread is not frozen and the mushrooms are not tinned. We are sorry that you were disturbed by other inconsiderate guests and we will remind guests again about consideration for others in the Cottage. Your comment about the doorway and stairs is not accurate - the ceiling height in the room is at least 10 feet - but, again, this is a 400 year old cottage not a modern hotel. We understand that you were disappointed with your stay, but we are disappointed that you had to write like this on a public forum rather than raise any issues at the time with our staff, who would have been very happy to help.

The hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of Brockenhurst, around the corner from the train station. Parking was simple and the whole team was excellent. Breakfast is taken in the cafe and garden to the side and was very good. The room of our stay was very quaint, if a little dated, but the property is very historic, so no one should expect 21st century gloss.
Response from Property: Thank you for your excellent review! We are delighted that you were so well looked after by our wonderful team. Yes, we are quaint and dated - we are a 400 year old thatched cottage - with lots of historic charm!

Great location! Traditional cosy rooms. Great experience with Escape Yachting. We were able to eat our lovely breakfast in the garden as well as our gin tasting and the great afternoon tea. The staff were all so helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Response from Property: Thank you for your excellent 5 star review! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay as well as your sail with Escape Yachting. Thank you for your positive feedback and kind comments. We look forward to welcoming you back one day.

We visited for the gin flight tasting experience. I discovered 3 new gins, and the server was very informative. I had the unusual spicy gins, and my boyfriend had fruity gins. We received complimentary snacks with them. Would highly recommend.

Very comfortable, clean accommodation. Everything you would need here for a short stay. Attached Esmes'Tea rooms - very friendly and helpful staff - delicious afternoon tea and breakfasts! Would recommend a stay here. Location is excellent for walking and eating. Easy to get to harbour for the yachting experience that was part of the deal that we booked.
Response from Property: Thank you for your excellent 5 star review! We are delighted that you had such a comfortable stay and were so well looked after by our wonderful staff. Thank you for your positive feedback and recommendation.

We stayed here last year & lobed it & booked straight away for this years birthdays. What a change in a year ! We booked the same rooms as last year which were lovely & in the separate part away from the cottage & also used the gin bar . We were informed a few weeks before our 4 night break these rooms were no longer available & we had 2 rooms in the main building itself which was fine, we were happy enough with that. Our room was a historical double , lovely cosy room etc no problem till we encountered the same problem as other TA reviews, the heat from the shower it was scalding hot, a sign told you how to turn it down, nothing worked, I got out & fetched the lady who had shown ys to our rooms she tried but to no avail. She said the plumber would come the next day good job our friends in the next rooms shower worked !! Next morning same problem, the plumber did come out needed a part he couldn't get. Really. So we were there for 4 nights with a shower that didn't work properly and apparently now they only have 4 rooms in the main building so no room to move to as they were fully booked. This is obviously an ongoing problem so why hadn't it been sorted. Really not good enough. The gin bar as such is no longer there would have been nice to be told in advance we were looking forward to the gin tasting again. The breakfast was lovely as was the staff in the tearooms which is now independently run. Thank you for all your help. Everything seems now to need some TLC , Shane now it looks like we need to find somewhere else to stay.
Response from Property: Thank you for your 4 star review. We are very grateful for your return visit to the hotel and for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry you did not feel able to mention this to me personally so I could have addressed the issue for you. The shower control in your room was broken by a guest, who did not follow the instructions and turned the temperature control too far, beyond its limit. We have had the unit replaced again - it was a new shower unit last year - and are confident that has solved the problem. So the problem was not ignored and we are sorry that this situation arose at a time when we could not move you to another room. With regards to the Gin Bar, our Tea Room has had a beautiful refurbishment and offers a much wider selection - including our popular gin tasting flights - so you were welcome to order those any time we were open during your stay. Thank you for your kind comments about our wonderful staff, who work so hard to look after our guests with a lot of TLC and we are very sorry that you will not be returning.

We had booked a Groupon afternoon tea and it was lovely. I am vegan and my friend vegetarian and the food was the best we have ever had at any afternoon tea we have been to before. Nice welcoming staff and great surroundings. Would 100% recommend this establishment.
