Hotel Bernat II

I would rate this hotel as 3 star based on a few relevant factors. We stayed full board and found the food to be repetitive and bland each evening to be honest. Cheap cuts of meat, god knows how many potato variations on offer? Even the soup was Potato. Lol I found the breakfast trays were not changed frequently, so often eggs, sausages Etc luke warm at best. On the plus side, I will say that my partner enjoyed the salad selection on offer most evenings. I also thought the desserts were quite nice on occasion The outdoor pool is very small, more of a garden pond. The indoor spa?? Has no gym, again a very small pool and the sauna and hammam were too cool to see any real benefit. Disappointing for me on the whole as the training facilities are important to me. The website pic's give the impression that this hotel is right on the beach. It is not although only a short walk away. The staff in the hotel are all friendly and helpful. The restaurant staff, bar staff all very pleasant.However, it is expensive. 30 Euros for a gin (double) and bailey's. 12 Euros for a 1 hour session at set times for the Spa (non inclusive) 57 Euros to extend the room for 6 hours on the final day Etc... I guess the endorsement that counts is would we return to the hotel bernat II and sadly for us the answer would be no.

Company marketing and policy regarding additional hidden payments They do not inform about additional payments for the pool. The place is not friendly to children, there is nothing except billiards, so small children have no place to spend time with their families, and they cannot go to the swimming pool with their children after 5 p.m. And from the morning only in the middle hours which are intended for sightseeing. The food is cold, they serve the same thing every day, eggs, bacon, sausages, fish, chips, like in a public canteen, but there is a microwave, there are reservations, so ordinary hotel residents can't sit anywhere, water is paid like the rest of the drinks, twice as expensive than in a store, the staff almost stands over the customer, waiting for the plate when you finish, which causes discomfort. In the cafeteria, groups of waitress girls are standing around, guessing, I had a hair in my plate, and none of the waitresses have their hair tied up, maybe they get commission from the table, a strange way of motivation. The rooms are impeccably clean, the cleaning team is very nice and helpful. I think the hotel's rating is overrated Company marketing and policy regarding additional hidden paymentsThe Ibis hotel has fewer stars than the Bernat 2 hotel, but it is cheaper and has the same standard

We had an amazing holiday, the staff is friendly, nice food, we would definitely come back ,there is just few areas that may need some improvement like renovations as our room had few broken tiles .

We stayed here for 5 nights before a cruise . We were travelling with myself and hubbie and 2 kids and in another room was my mum and dad . I was a bit hesitant before arriving as some of the reviews were poor but I needn’t have worried. The staff are amazing and so friendly . The rooms were modern and beds comfy . Lovely bathroom also . They supply body wash and shampoo and have a decent hairdryer . You can also borrow an iron from Reception if you need one. Hotel was full when we stayed . Food - we were half board so had breakfast and dinner . My son is vegetarian and I can honestly say there was such a great range of food to choose from and a lot more than you would expect for a 3/4 star hotel . The food hall manager was amazing and all of the staff we encountered were so friendly . For breakfast you can get free tea , coffee and juices . For dinner no drinks are included but once you are at table a waiter will come along and see if you want anything . We usually asked for a few diet cokes and they came From bottles and very good prices. You then get a receipt and you pay on the way out of the restaurant . Beach- 2/3 mins walk away . 8 euros for a sun lounger but please barter as they let us have 6 for 30 euros. Beach was very choppy whilst we were here so young children will need full supervision. Pool- only my 7 year old daughter went into the pool normally late afternoon and she had no complaints at all . Was rarely anyone else in there. Location - fab location . Short walk away from the local town with loads of shops. Even though we went end of October I would say about a third of the shops were open but still more than enough. Washing- if you need any clothes washed the hotel does offer a service but this was expensive . There is a laundrette at the petrol garage 2 mins away from the hotel and a 5kg wash costs 5 euros and a 7.5kg wash cost 7.5 euros . The washing liquid and conditioner automatically goes into the machine . Please don’t let any of the bad reviews put you off. We aren’t fussy but we also wouldn’t stay in a poor hotel and this was such a great hotel for an amazing price . If you are considering booking this hotel then please do . You won’t regret it and please ask if you have any questions . We also didn’t see anyone begging for money as a past review had mentioned and felt very safe in the area . As said above we found all staff very friendly even when we had to change rooms as the set up wasn’t as we had booked but this was done very quickly and no complaints at all .

This is not a 4 star Hotel, when we arrived our room was ready so they let us go on up the room was on the second floor the corridors are decorated In dark wood as are the floors which make them look very dated. The room had a small window and was painted a dark burgundy which made the room very dark, the paint was dirty furniture chipped and old, the balcony was small and overlooked every other balcony one queen size bed and a single bed that wasn’t needed if that was taken out of the room it would make it look bigger, I can’t agree with the other comments about cleanliness, beds were made and towels changed that was about it, the restaurant is like a free for all people pushing and shoving and leaning over you instead of politely saying excuse me, breakfast the usual ran out of fried eyes and omelettes and the chef that was cooking them was never in a hurry to cook some more so would be stood there waiting a while, unless they were freshly cooked all the food was warm at best, not much variety food wise and it was bland and boring. Desserts were 2 types of cake or a fruit pie, mousse or creme caramel I think as well as ice cream, the mist annoying thing is why is the fruit refrigerated apples, peaches, plums, grapes and kiwi should not be kept cold, they were to hard to eat, adult entertainment didn’t see any, reception staff were helpful. The beach is lovely and Calella itself is a beautiful place they have some really nice shops and cafes just beware of the beggars as they are very persistent they are nit homeless or hungry they are an organised group don’t be fooled. The other problem there are pigeons everywhere thousands of them if your caught feeding them you will be fined there are notices up warning you. All in all we were out and about Train to Barcelona €11 return standing room only on trains the journey is over an hour long and Barcelona has become very dirty, smelly and full of pickpockets and beggars. I personally found the locals very rude and ill mannered so this will be my last trip to Spain.

Lovely family hotel. We took our three year old and found it great for children without being chaotic. The pools are small but never crowded, a children’s disco every evening with interactive dancing, mixtures of themes and performances etc. The children’s play room is generously sized with a variety of activities. The hotel is within walking distance of the beach/shops/restaurants/play areas/parks,etc. Our room was cleaned spotlessly every day, the cleaners were always friendly. There was a wide variety of food displayed for breakfast and dinner, the only fault being that the food was poorly labelled if labelled at all, so not clear for vegetarians/vegans or people with allergies. Other than that our stay was perfect and would return tomorrow if I could. :)

We were disappointed with our 10 night stay here but, first the good bits. Our bedrooms were cleaned spotlessly; the pool is small but loungers and chairs were always available; beverage prices are reasonable; breakfast generally was fine as were evening salads. Now, the less good. The restaurant was frenetic and not well laid out. Food items ran out daily and was not replenished quickly, if at all. Food quality was variable and a bit repetitive. Most of the waiting staff looked bored with their work, working robotically and showing little interest in their guests. A mum with two small children asked one fellow if he could push two small tables together for her, as was the case throughout the restaurant. "Impossible" he replied and walked off ... when "dad" arrived, the family did it themselves. Food labelling is poor - beware if vegetarian. Beds are firm to hard and no toppers available to soften. There was no English TV ... when we queried this, we were told "There should be ... just keep searching"... there wasn't! All this might have been OK if I'd paid for 3-star; but, I didn't.

2nd time staying at this hotel. We really can’t fault it. It’s beautiful, chilled and friendly. We stay on this coastline yearly and if you are looking for poolside entertainment and waiter services then this won’t be the hotel for you. It’s more the peaceful option. The pool is small but effective and never too overcrowded. Last time we stayed in 2018 we had a room for a family of 4, a typical 2 beds in one room, however this year we booked a standard room again and were surprised to be given what can only be described as a mini apartment with two balconies (room 407) it does have a busy street view but it’s such a great space. The restaurant is amazing. It’s lovely to see they still have the same friendly restaurant manager, he is fabulous. The food is the best we have experienced in all the hotels in the costa brava and one of the main reasons we booked this hotel again. The waiting staff are always friendly and the entire hotel is spotless. The spa is amazing, you get a free pass for two adults and then we added our 2 children for €8 euros each. It’s a real experience! If you don’t rely on loads of entertainment then I urge you to book this hotel! And their beach bar is a beautiful setting, so be sure to pop down!
