Holiday Inn Campeche

Some staff members are amazing. Kind, friendly and always willing to help. I’ve grown fond of some of them. Others, are unpolite, and just plain lazy... sometimes acting like they dont’t really care. The hotel is perfectly located and has a nice view from the balcony rooms, but although the hotel is relatively new, it’s poorly maintained. Some rooms don’t have hot water, others have none working tvs, some have missing pieces of furniture, clogged sinks and bathtubs, and so on. (Yeah, I’ve stayed here a lot (about 20-30 nights on 2021), mostly because I’m an IHG GOLD MEMBER and already know the area.) Wifi is unsteady and slow. If you are having an important zoom meeting, or some important web surfing to be done, I recommend using cell phone data, so you don’t have an unstable connection. Some rooms, specially those at the end of each hall, have little to no wifi signal on all floors. They say they have a “restaurant” with room service, but it’s more of a cafeteria, an even though they say they close st 11pm, if you try calling after 10pm, they won’t pick up at the phone and the doors to the place will be closed most of the time. To sum it up, if you are coming to Campeche, you can find better places to stay. Better maintained, equally well located or more historic boutique hotels for simular prices.
Castelmar Hotel

I looked at a lot of hotels when choosing where to stay in Campeche. We wanted something quiet, but well-located for exploring the historic center. Since we were driving, dedicated free parking was also important. Hotel Castelmar met all these criteria and exceeded our expectations. The people at the desk were helpful and cordial, the property was immaculate and super charming. A room, a superior double, cost around US$43 a night, and what a value that was! The room was large with two double beds, an updated and roomy bathroom (with scented toilet paper!), plush towels, and upscale amenities. The A/C and ceiling fan were quiet. Beds had good mattresses and nice linens. We never heard a peep from outside or from another room. Breakfast was not included, but was very reasonably priced and of generous portions. The pool, in an interior courtyard, isn't heated, so it was a bit brisk, but it was a nice break from the 90° heat. The parking lot is large with plenty of spaces, some with shade, and there's someone there to guard the cars and confirm you are a hotel guest. Covid protocols were in place, and we felt very safe. Highly recommended!

Great location within the walls of the colonial city of Campeche. Our room was one floor above the lobby and this made it difficult to bring our luggage up without an elevator. The room was adequate with a stand alone closet and drawers for storage. Beds were decent. Our room overlooked Calle 12. The bathroom was tiny and dated. The shower cramped, awkward and dangerous entering or exiting as it is easy to slip on the wet floor. My travelling companion found the shower head to be too low. The most annoying aspect of our stay was the lack of privacy in that we could easily hear other guests' conversations, using their bathrooms, showers, etc. The hotel did include an American breakfast each morning in an adjacent dining room. The offering included three choices of cooked eggs, accompanied by white bread toast and choice of fruit of the day or orange juice. Orange juice is your best option. Of course, weak coffee was included with complimentary top up. The insult was asking for milk which cost an additional 20 pesos. Cheap in my opinion. My rating, a very dated 2 1/2 star tourist class hotel with its best advantage being location and off street parking (which we did not use). Service staff certainly tried their best and were happy to help which made our stay more bearable. There is also a small travel agency/tour office on site. We will stay elsewhere next time we visit the beautiful city of Campeche.

The hotel has good location and there is large parking in front of the hotel. The room was very spacious and newly furnished. The bathroom was big enough, it even had a hairdryer. The beds were very comfortable. The staff were friendly. The breakfast was good. In the evening they ran out of hot water for showering. The wi-fi in the room did not work.
Hotel Plaza Colonial

The Hotel Plaza Colonial was perfect for our 2 night visit to Campeche. Located only a few blocks from the main square, it was extremely clean, comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is perfect for exploring this lovely city. The baluarte walls, malecon, main plaza, and several good museums, are all within easy walking distance. We also walked all the way out to Fuerte de San Miguel (4km+-) and back, along the waterfront most of the way. Their museum was wonderful, as is the small Mayan one just behind the Governor's Palace in the square. There are many delightful restaurants in town, and a tiny pastry shop two doors down from the hotel that sells delicious sweet/savory filled treats. Two restaurants we'd recommend are: La Parilla Colonial Campeche and La Maria Cocina Peninsular.
