Pocaterra Inn and Waterslide

Canmore|1.91km from city center
After reading decent reviews I booked three nights in high season for my family. The water slide and pool plus included breakfast were contributing factors for sure. Upon arrival we were kindly greeted and despite being an hour early for check in, got a room right away. The kids were offered a large freezie then too. The standard two Queen room on the main floor was clean and had a laminate floor which was wonderful. No worries about what might have been in the carpet!! Other than some dusty bathroom and bedroom corners, and a deck that needed a sweep(we were ground level so had a cement enclosure- kind of prison like) that had leaves and such needing swept up, the cleanliness was good. Our bathroom fan didn’t work and so the bathroom got very hot and foggy when anyone showered. Kids had fun at the pool but I didn’t feel confident in the cleanliness- three huge hair balls on the deck that were there two days in a row. Eww. Breakfast was always the same - eggs scrambled, meat (bacon or sausage), waffles, and hash browns as well as yogurt, cereal, fruit salad and various toaster items. I was very surprised to see bacon! That doesn’t typically happen where breakfast is included. Breakfast area was well tended to, clean and you never had to wait long for a refill on anything. There was iced tea in the lobby each day and in the afternoon fresh baked, individually wrapped chocolate chip cookies (so good). This was also a pleasant surprise. The room had a lovely little gas fireplace and plenty of space for a family needing space for a playpen or cot. The AC unit worked great which was necessary as every day was 30+! Watch prices- our initial trip dates fell through and the hotel offered a touch cheaper than Expedia, but the week later I rescheduled Expedia saved us $50. High season was nearly $400/night which was ghastly but last minute vacation plans in high season and not being anywhere for three years due to covid… we went for it!

This review is based solely on the cost we paid for this stay. The long and short, I wanted to take my wife somewhere nice for her birthday. We are on a limited budge but I figured I could spend a little extra as its her birthday. We came across .... and admittedly lured in by the nice pictures with a private romantic view of the mountains. My wife, who worked 15 years in hospitality asked a couple of times for a room with a nice view of the mountains like the one in the pictures. We were assured we had the best view. When we pulled up we were a bit let down seeing it was right off the main road. Not a deal breaker but we pictured something more secluded. We were not allowed to check in early. Once gain, not a deal breaker but it would have been nice. We walked around town and when it came time for check in, we were very unpleasantly surprised. The rooms, average size with 2 queen bed were clean. The bathroom clean with a nice view and a heated floor. But what we we most upset with was the lack of privacy. When you open the door the 2 beds are right there in front of the window where everyone walks by. My wife and I had hopes of spending the mornings in bed, with the view of the mountains as told. We did have the view but everyone walking buy had a clear view of us in the window. We called Expedia and asked if the had anything else which the didn't and they could not help us much since it was booked third party. To add insult to injury we immediately went back and looked on Expedia to see the pictures we were lured in by. The exact same stay, days and everything was $300 less. We immediately asked Expedia if we could get a price match but they said they only do that with their competitors, not their site. and it is only before you pay. The room was already booked. This was not what we were hoping for in the least. In all fairness, it is a nice clean newly renovated place. It is centrally located near may stores and hikes. The view of the mountain from the balcony is great. The little table and chairs are great to have a little meal and some one. If the rooms were $150 to $175 tops, I would give this place 4.5 starts. But we paid 1500 USD for 5 nights. We could have stayed in Banff for that cost or $100 more and had more privacy which is what we wanted. I wish we would have read Joel B review post from June before we booked this room. For the cost it was a major let down. Especially since we found comparable places to stay close if not in Banff. This was a quickly planned surprise trip. We paid literally for not following up and using due diligence. I do photography on the side. I should have known better. Who ever took the pictures earned their money on this one. None of them are fake, But the angles are just right. If the prices ever go down to what I mentioned, you getting a great deal. Just no privacy.

The Georgetown Inn

On arriving at the Georgetown Inn we were greeted as long lost favourite relatives. After checking in, went for super in their lounge where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner with excellent service. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable as to the history of Canmore and what is going on it town. We experienced a two hour flat surface hike through Policeman's Creek area and were amazed at what they have done and continue to do in that area. All the meals we had at the Inn were delicious, served promptly and what was to be hot was served hot even though they were very busy. My favourites for breakfast were the Traditional Avocado Toast and their French Toasts (Famous Orange and Strawberry Delight). For dinner, the Chicken Masala was full of flavour, a little spicey for me but still delicious. Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding was another treat. We love the ambience throughout the Inn and can hardly wait to return... Our rooms were huge, had a great fire place for warming up the room during a winter visit but we still had to turn it on for a few minutes. Beds were very comfortable. We slept undisturbed...was it that we were exhausted from our long walks or the other guests were as tired as we were and also went to bed early.. Only stayed 2 nights at the Georgetown Inn...big mistake....should have booked for a longer stay...too much to see in 3 days. Wholeheartedly recommend the Georgetown Inn. great place as your basecamp to explore banff national park and calgary, the room is large with kitchen and washer, highly recommended. it is pricy but so are the rest of other hotels/lodge in the area and a bit cheaper compared to hotels in banff. Clean and well maintained 👍

This place was great; Joseph went over and beyond to help me plan my adventures, giving me great ideas for Banff and nearby areas. The grab-and-go breakfast is fantastic as you receive plenty of snacks to fuel you throughout the day on your hikes and adventures. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I was able to sleep soundly. I heard the train one time well before 10 pm, but they also provide plenty of earplugs in your restroom, which I did not utilize. The shower was good and got and had great water pressure. The only downside is that the parking lot is small, but I could always find a parking spot, even coming in at about 8 PM one evening. I will stay here again.

It's pretty easy to find, and it's easy to find after following the navigation. Self check-in and check-out, the service was not felt. There is a 24-hour convenience store not far from the hotel, so it is convenient, and the pots and pans in the room are quite complete, so breakfast can be done by yourself. The price-performance ratio of three bedrooms and one hall is ok, one bedroom is more expensive

This hotel is budget friendly. Some points I would like to highlight are: 1. Clean bed but the pillows are not the best ( we had to sleep without the pillows) 2. The bathroom was super clean 3. The patio is shared with few other rooms but the mountain views are fab!! 4. The whole process of check-in and check out is virtual and seamless. 5. There is 1 parking stall for each room. Overall a wonderful stay and I highly recommend it

I really like this hotel, I have my own free parking lot, the location is very good, and it is very close to banff. The first floor lobby has free coffee hot water and fruit. Sitting on the sofa and watching the scenery is so cool. The room has a small balcony that is perfect for watching the scenery. The room is very clean, very recommended

My friends and I booked a 3 bedroom through Expedia. When we arrived, it was a tiny 2 bedroom suite, with not enough beds or room for us to sit together. Unfortunately, because it was booked through Expedia, we had to deal directly with Expedia and the owner of the suite which was a huge hassle and spent hours of our time trying to fix the situation. The hotel rents suites by owners, as well as suites owned by the hotel. After not getting far with Expedia nor the suite owner, we talked to the manager Aaron, and he was able to get us into a significantly larger suite. He did what he could to accommodate us, and it cost us less than what Expedia charged for a much smaller unit. The suite was amazing, very comfortable beds and had lots of room for our girls weekend away. The kitchen was perfect and had everything we needed. We will definitely stay here again, and will be sure to book directly with the hotel.
