We spent two nights and had a wonderful time with our very kind hosts Dave and Jennifer. The lodge has beautiful views of Eagle Lake, distant mountains, and, being there in September, lots of fall colours. Our cabin was very comfortable with lots of space, a wood stove and a kitchenette. They are developing a beautiful new bistro and great room in the lodge which has stunning views of the lake. When we ran into trouble with a flat tire shortly after we had left, they were very helpful in making calls to get our tire repaired. A great stay!

Jennifer and Dave (along with dogs Trooper and Daisy) were gracious, wonderful hosts and amazing conversationalists. Loved the stories and antidotes of lodge life. Did lots of extras like starting the fires in the cabins when it cooled off. We had interesting and engaging guests at dinner that made the stay enjoyable. Always love to hear about other countries and travels. Location and views were amazing! Food was not amazeballs but good straightforward fare. Main lodge is under renovation, it looks like it will be amazing when completed. Did make it a bit tricky to get about in the process. The room we were disappointed in. The original room we booked was not available and we were ‘upgraded’ to the Deer Room. It was a very quaint 1950’s cabin with wonderful views. I think it it has potential but fell short of what we would consider good value for the price paid. Access was tricky steps. Beds were comfortable and well appointed. But there was a general lack of cleanliness over all. We understand that you can’t be critter free in this area but it seems a final check of the room may have been overlooked. Items in fridge, stale water in kettle and overall dusty and unswept. The heat also didn’t extend to the bathroom which made for chilly bathroom trips, obviously not an issue in summer.

The breakfast was okay, you could have booked a larger breakfast for an additional charge of $12 per person; This was completely enough for us; the location on the lake is fantastic; Jennifer herself is a heartwarming person, very friendly and service-oriented; the pictures on the internet do not reflect reality; the sauna, for example, and the hot tub are not in good condition; there is no restaurant or bistro; There are 2 hot dishes to choose from > Attention: the price quoted online is $29.95 per meal per person, our bill says $36.95. The beer doesn't cost $5 as advertised > our bill said it was $6. We didn't see a gift shop; in her office you buy cards, mugs and a few other little things, as well as your husband's photographs. Before the trip, we asked by email which tours we should book and were told that we would discuss this together after we arrived on site > after our arrival we found out that Jennifer's husband was on a tour and that there wasn't one at the moment Tours are carried out. The tours on the Chilcotin River advertised online cannot take place; according to Jennifer, the Native People are denying her access to the river. Used toilet paper must not be disposed of in the toilet, but must be collected separately in a garbage bag that must be placed in a shed > We have spared ourselves and all readers here pictures of the shed. We honestly asked ourselves how the ratings came about. If we had seen the "as is" on the internet, we certainly wouldn't have booked. show less

Our original room booked was not available so we were “upgraded” to the Deer. It was a very quaint, 1950’s cabin with wonderful views and has amazing potential but fell short of what we would consider good value for the price paid. The beds were comfortable but there was a def lack of cleanliness overall. We understand that in this area you can never be critter free but seems the final room check was overlooked. Chewed paper products and mouse droppings in tissue boxes, countertops, tables and bathroom. Again can’t eliminate this but seems it was being left a bit too much to the mice, as they also kept us company at night in bed. Access to the cabin was a bit difficult. Floors did not seem to be swept and overall very dusty. Items still in fridge, water left in kettle and dishes not clean. Only heat was wood stove which was fine but did not extend to the bathroom, which made for chilly toilet and shower trips. Not an issue in the hot summer of course but we were well into fall. Overall the sparkle and passion of Jennifer and David was not reflected in the accommodations and that was unfortunate.

We were disappointed with this stay. Given the price (a lot more than comparable properties in the W Chilcotin plateau) we were expecting something better. The cabin we had booked was not available and we were given Moose cabin - the same price. This had the bed up stairs with difficult access at the top. The cabin was rather dusty. The cups were not clean. The towels and toiletries were a shambolic muddle. No bathrobes (not a problem) The bathroom was bodge do it yourself design - lots of hawk-white and a plastic bag over the electrics. The good : Jennifer was a good hostess and the meals were good. Breakfast was good too. Delicious home made cinnamon buns one day. We had some really nice dinner companions who were staying at the same time which helped our feeling about the stay. The lake and surroundings are beautiful.

We had a wonderful stay at Eagle Bear Lodge - the only disappointment was having to check out! This is the best stay we’ve had in Canada. Hosts David and Jennifer are so kind and warm, and additional team members Trooper and Daisy are just wonderful too (it’s a miracle I didn’t take them home with me in the car!). Our cabin was wonderful, with a super deck area perfect for relaxing and book reading in the evening warmth before dinner. We are so glad that we booked in for dinner: it was absolutely delicious and very generous portion sizes. If you are offered pecan pie, do try it - it was absolutely delicious and served warm, it can’t be beaten! I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with David and Jennifer about the development of Eagle Bear Lodge and browsing David’s excellent wildlife photography too. I’d really recommend to anyone visiting this area to check in and check it out.

The crowning week in our six week vacation. Dave and Jennifer were the sweetest and most gracious and informative hosts. Steering us to some of the most amazing scenery we have ever seen. Eagle lake itself is the most beautiful and clear lake canoeing we saw a school of fish numbering in the hundreds. As well as an Eagle that flew down and snatched a fish from the same lake. Beautiful birds and ducks are numerous. Dave is an award winning photographer holding photo workshops and seminars.

I stayed at Eagle Bear Lodge for a lynx photo shoot session in late February/early March. First off, Jennifer and David are outstanding, multi-talented hosts. It was a pleasure to get to know them. Lodging was very comfortable, food excellent, and surrounding area beautiful. Looking forward ta return visit!

We just returned from a five night stay at the Eagle Bear Lodge and loved every minute. The picture showing a canoe on a lake with snow covered peaks in the background is correct. Except the lake color is even more spectacular -- imagine the color of the Bahamas ocean with this scenery in the background. And, also imagine total silence except for loon calls. Dave and Jen are fantastic hosts and the meals were delicious. It may be a bit of a jaunt to arrive, but you'll be glad that you made the effort.
