Hotel Quelitales

We were here only one night but would definitly return. We ate B,L,D and all the food was delicious with excellent service. The grounds are beautiful with many birds throughout. There are feeders in 3 different locations with seats so you can relax and enjoy. The room was extremely comfortable and clean. The owner came out birding and was chatting everyone up. It was a great place and if anyone has questions I would be happy to answer

We had a wonderful 2 day stay for birding. The highlights included many oropendulas with their wonderful call, and the food--which was the best we had in Costa Rica, and rivals food anywhere we've been. We had great guiding with Taylor, catching several unusual hummingbird species. Overall a wonderful stay.

Almost at the end of the road up a mountain, this setting is like a mini paradise. We stayed in Calibris which was the last bungalow before the waterfall. From the wrap around deck you could see the waterfall. Just a beautiful setting to relax and unwind. You felt like you were the only one here, you don’t see any of the other lodging places. This was recommended to us by our birding guide and we came prior to our tour, so did not use guides while here. You can tell from the plantings all over that this place is an object of love…love of nature, birds and the surroundings. Waking up in the morning, you could hear the waterfall, and watch as hummingbirds darted in and out of the bushes surrounding our bungalow. Butterflies galore also. Even saw a gecko. An environment of activity of many different kinds of birds. People were excited about what they saw and shared pictures with us. Definitely a bird watcher destination. Being here in December, it was cool at night and early morning (until the sun hit this side of the mountain) so some of the extra blankets came in handy. The room is well kept, with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The bathroom is very modern, and has an outdoor shower too. Read a couple of reviews, yes, things tend to stay damp, but you are in a rain forest. If you have mobility issues, make sure they know. The bungalows are spread out and some (ours definitely) was a hike up a concrete path from the gravel road. Last, but not least is the food. It is really amazing and so delicious. We had the tropical chicken, yum. And 3 desserts, oh my they were good! A real effort is made all around to give you a lovely dining experience. We had all our meals here (lunch/dinner is the same menu.) was here for 3 nights. Would definitely recommend this place for a long weekend, or more. Kind of a mini paradise in harmony with environment around it.

What a gem! Quelitales is a beautiful snd unique place. I have been to Quelitales twice and found it to be charming--birds everywhere--and with staff who are absolutely the best. The casitas are right in the middle of the wild greeness of the rain forest. Although it was the rsiny season, there was plenty of time for outdoor activities with calming rain at night. The meals were super-tasty. Jose and his staff are the best hosts ever. I was sad to leave.

Hotel Quelitales is a wonderful hotel - the cabins were spacious, clean and comfortable and very private. The setting was stunning, the spaces very well designed, the service was amazing - the perfect combination of luxury nestled into beautiful surroundings. Very good food at reasonable prices. Highly recommended for anyone that likes quiet beautiful settings and a must for those that love birds. The owner is passionate about birds and has built multiple beautiful and amazingly comfortable spots (with bathrooms & places to charge your phone!) to spend the whole day watching them. We were able to see over 40 species of birds here including the green fronted lancebill hummingbird and the scaled antipitta! This hotel will be at the top of our list when we return to Costa Rica!

I so enjoyed the Hotel Quelitales. The casita was charming and comfortable with many birds right outside the window. Jose and his staff provide super-hospitable service with delicious meals. After days out and about, I appreciated the darkness and quiet of the hotel. I returned a few days ago and miss this. Thank you Jose and all!

What an amazing place! The setting is just breath-taking - birds galore, amazing flora & fauna. The rooms are really comfortable with a massive, comfortable bed, great bathroom with plenty of hot water, fridge, coffee maker & great views. Our only problem was that everything felt damp, & the towels never dried out after use. We did ask for replacements, which we got without any hassle, but our clothes also felt damp - not anyone's fault, it was the rainy season! They offered to clean our rooms every day, but we declined as there was no need. Breakfast was very good, always served with a smile & the 2 dinners we had were equally good. The staff were excellent & so helpful & knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend.

A two-night stay not only for birding on the grounds but as the base for side trips in the area. The covered "hide" made for a great way to see the antpitta and the wood-quail not to mention other species frequenting the forested landscape. The area maintained for hummingbirds had several species enjoying feeders and flowering shrubs. The high waterfall made for a great setting. Our cottage was spacious, tastefully furnished and comfy. A minor downside was the presence of several "bugs. Typical of many accommodations in CR is that doors are not snug in frames enabling critters, mostly insects, free entrance. A minor inconvenience. Staff was friendly and always available. And, I would be remiss if I didn't comment on the food. I understand locals frequent the restaurant particularly on weekends for the excellent cuisine. And, we were not disappointed. The meals were excellent! The open dinning room makes for a special setting overhanging the koi pond with a "wall" of water falling from the roof. Plus, server Gabriel, an avid birder, made for an enjoyable experience. Would we return? Definitely yes.

Excellent breakfast and dinner, served until 8 pm including Sundays. Flowers decorated our meals and the bedroom. Wonderful beds and bedding, towels beautifully arranged as a crocodile one day and elephant the next. Superb birding along well-marked trail and also at the spots José has arranged as a hide and with covering so happy birding even in the rain. Peaceful place with very helpful staff.
