We have been meaning to leave a review since our unforgettable stay at Thousand Lakes Lodge last month. What an incredible place! We spent six weeks in Tasmania and this was our favourite spot. Really blown away by how cozy and welcome we felt in the lodge. Bec was a wonderful host, many great stories and always on hand to share helpful information of the surrounding environment. The property is absolutely immaculate and the rooms are beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. We were really surprised to see a reviewer before ours slating the food, we throughly enjoyed all our dishes, as did the rest of the group of guests staying with us. I suppose the lodge might not be for everyone but fortunately those sort of people likely aren’t one’s we’d want to meet at the accommodation anyway. The overall commendation of this property is reflected in the vast majority of the reviews, not the odd one. Without doubt, 5 stars, we can’t wait to return!!

Nestling in the Central Plateau, this gem is the highlight of our trip. The view, the cuisine, the cozy rooms and the lounges, and surprise encounter of wildlife, all speaks of Bec, manager, curator, wildlife enchanter and more. A must visit.

I had the pleasure of spending a night with my friends, and there are multiple highlights from our experience that I would love to share with you. Firstly, our host, Bec, was exceptional. She provided us with numerous excellent recommendations, and her expertise and hospitality were exemplary. To our amazement, her magic led us to observe three Tasmanian devils on a rainy night! Secondly, I found the landscape to be incredibly distinctive and unique to Tasmania. It's a sight that deserves to be witnessed with your own eyes. Lastly, the lodge itself was exquisitely designed, and the food experience was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend a visit to experience it firsthand!

Unique in Tasmania, a good, well run accommodation in a remote site, 15km from any other property. Set beneath a dam, this property has been renovated to a good 4 star standard with 2 main public areas providing comfortable seating infront of large wood burners. The fire was lit on one evening only resulting in a dramatic change of atmosphere. Indeed it was so uncosy, all guests left the lounge by 730pm! Bedrooms are simply decorated with well sized bathrooms. No inroom seating so the public lounges are important. Honesty bar allows for freedom to relax. The property is solo managed/staffed by Bec who obviously loves her job and loves the region. Her knowledge of walks pleases keen or amateur ramblers. The only issue we and other guests commented on were the meals. On registration you are given a form to complete your choice for dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was simple and adequate. However the preserves and butter were served in cafeteria style plastic packaging lowering the overall style. To put these into small dishes would improve the impact. Dinner was poor for us and others on both nights. With so few rooms the food is presumably prepared off site, cryovaced and reheated on demand. No issue with that but the choices were odd and the resulting dishes poor. The risotto was a crazy choice as its a dish you prepare at the last minute and it duly arrived bone dry. Ditto the potato rosti, also dry and presented on an undressed bed of green leaves. A simple oil and lemon juice dressing would bring life to these arid leaves. For main the lamb shank itself was good although the vegetables were completely under cooked and over served being enough for 2 people on one plate. Deserts were absolutely fine but we felt the option of cheese and biscuits was sadly missing. All in all this is a good 4 star property for 1 or 2 nights. Just needs attention on menu choice and preparation.

My second stay at the lodge. I knew I had to take my family here, and they were absolutely blown away with the accommodation, the location, the food and service. Truly a place like no other which exudes serenity. Wish we could have stayed longer but we will most definitely be back soon! Thank you Bec for another wonderful stay!

Lovely unique and remote lodge in the Alpine area of Tasmania. Interesting history as built to train people going to Antarctica. Lodge has been renovated very well - rooms are a bit small but have great beds and good showers. There are two big lounge areas downstairs with great views particularly of the quolls, devils and wallabies. The meals are very good considering how remote the lodge is - you normally sit at big tables and have a chance to meet and chat with other guests. There is an honour bar with an extensive range of drinks available and coffee and tea. We did some walking during our visit - it is also a great fishing area. Bec manages everything and gets you organised especially if it is your first visit.

My stay at the Thousand Lakes Lodge was beyond my wildest dreams! We had the pleasure of seeing Tasmanian devils, quolls, wombats, wallabies & birds - it’s life changing to witness these elusive critters up close. The lodge itself is cozy & there are a number of comfortable areas to sit & watch the world go by outside the window. As if that’s not enough, the vast night sky is pure magic & you may even have the opportunity to see the Southern lights. Bec & her team are an absolute delight - knowledgeable, passionate & innovative. They are restoring the land nearby after the 2019 fires to allow new sub-alpine plant growth. Bec has compiled loads of research on the Indigenous history of the area, the Antarctic training that took place in the now lodge & the landscape. Truly a spectacular experience! I will certainly be back. HIGHLY recommend!

Thanks to the passion and insights of our amazing host Bec we were able to fully appreciate the beauty of this harsh and remote landscape. Bec went above and beyond to make sure our stay was a special one and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. The lodge itself is beautifully furnished and compliments the harsh landscape with a touch of luxury that blends seamlessly with the environment. We saw so much wildlife in our 2 day stay - quolls, Tasmanian devils, wombats, wallabies, echidnas and platypus. The longer you stay the more this wild place in the world grows on you.
