I booked the Romantic Pamper Getaway for myself for 28-29 December. The booking went smoothly, thank you to Elizabeth in this regard. I booked and paid extra for a picnic lunch on 28 December and specified that I was vegetarian. We arrived at the Lodge and checked in – the process went smoothly. We were asked to choose a spot for our picnic so that they could set up for us. We chose a spot and the blanket and cushions were placed there and we were given the picnic basket which contain a number of boxes each with different food in them. When we unpacked the picnic – the main part of the meal consisted of two chicken rolls, two chicken kebabs and a salmon trout wrap – there was no vegetarian option. There were 2 fruit kebabs, dried fruit in a container with the nuts and biltong, cheeses and four (4) biscuits to eat with the cheeses and two boxes containing a variety of sweet treats. We went for a walk around the lake and discovered a dying duck lying in the flower bed. My friend went back to the restaurant and informed a female manager who initially laughed at him. When he told her he was serious, she mumbled something and walked off. He eventually gave up waiting for any feedback. When we returned to the spot after walking around the dam, the duck was still flaying about in the flower bed. He informed one of the male managers in the restaurant who said he would get someone from maintenance to attend to it. Our room was lovely despite smelling of cigarette smoke when the door was closed, as a result we left the door and windows open whenever we were in the room except when we were sleeping. We had booked for the gin and milkshake experience – I received three mini milkshakes – a peppermint crisp one, a banana one and a chocolate one. The banana one really should have been made with real banana and the chocolate one was terrible. The gin experience consisted of a waiter placing three bottles of gin on the table and informing my friend that he knew the first two (the pink gin and the standard gin) but he didn’t know the third one (the Rooibos gin). My friend was provided with a glass containing ice and a few pieces of fruit into which a single tot of the pink gin was poured along with the pink tonic. The waiter then disappeared then reappeared some time later and poured the standard gin and blue tonic which he again spilled. By the end of the tasting he had spilled each drink he poured and would disappear and return with a cloth to wipe the table. No serviettes were provided at any stage. Thankfully the view made up for the poor tasting experience which is a misnomer as there is no experience – you are just tasting three gins. The television sound was on and was quite loud and this was competing with loud music that was playing too. Can't understand why is such a peaceful setting. At some stage during the afternoon, we were informed that the dinner was not a buffet but a la carte. As I looked through the menu at dinner time I realised that the

When we arrived to check-in the lady at the counter couldn't access our booking which I had made on *********** and she made it seem as if this was our fault which was a bit frustrating. We had to wait quite a while until she was able to access it to confirm that I had already paid for the booking. The hotel itself was beautiful. The carpets in the bedrooms should be removed or updated as they are old and stained and spoils an otherwise lovely room! The biggest issue we faced was that the generator stopped working during our stay...mind you this was during a heatwave and the situation was handled poorly by staff. We had to go to our rooms early because staff was closing down the bar and outside area when loadshedding kicked in. They had no emergency lights at all to give to guests to use in the rooms which besides being unacceptable is also a safety risk. What if someone gets hurt or injured on your property in the dark? The staff had no response to anything except to say that they could not help us with anything and could not even look us in the eye. My parents who are in the 70s had to make their way up the stairs and be in their rooms with no lights available at all. The hotel is dark in general and with no lights on at all was not a pleasant experience. How were people supposed to use the bathroom as well in the dark? Staff should have also atleast made sure people had enough water as there was a heatwave with no aircons. Extremely disappointed that we paid to stay at this hotel and did not receive the general facilities we should have had and the attitude from the staff was unacceptable. Very disappointing to have paid so much for this experience

A comfortable hotel with smart, well laid out rooms. The room included a kettle with supplies of tea/coffee, a heater and a good sized tv. The public areas of the hotel were particularly lovely - the first floor lobby with a roaring fire led onto a cosy bar and a well sized restaurant that rustled up some decent food at short notice. Nice decoration too - such as the paintings of cricket grounds in the hallway leading up to the restaurant (quite appropriate as many rooms look out on Centurion Park cricket stadium). Overall, a good place to stay in the area.

I think you must train some of your waters to be friendly and to learn to greet customers. The waitress who was working on tha monday morning did not greed us ,she just asked us what we wanted to eat and it took her about 30 min just to bring me hot milk and make some tea and when she brought milk it was not hot When we leave the dining she didn't even bother to ask if we enjoyed the breakfast or not.Another thing is that i did not enjoy supper .my advise is to call customers and find out what they prefer to eat so that you prepare before their arrival because at break fast i asked for fruit salad but it was not no there and that is my preference.
