Yuyu Free Youth Hostel (Chengde Mountain Resort)

Very affordable. Walking distance to Summer Resort . Chengde train station is nearby.

The location is great, which is near chengde mountain resort. The room upstair is clear. However, there are many problems. First, the light in the bathroom is kind of broken. I can't turn on the light while using the bathroom. I am not sure maybe i can't find where to turn on. Second, downstair is a bit mess. A lot of people smoke cigarette downstair and cigarette butts are everywhere. The music is too loud. Anyway, it's not loud enough to reach my room

I feel that this is much better than most of "youth hostels" in China. Nice vibe, clean, friendly staff, good internet, good location. It has its own bar/cafe which is both an advantage (if I had more time, I would love to relax over a beer there), and a problem (it got quite noisy at night). Chengde is a very touristy town, but it's also a nice place to relax if you have more time.

Check in was easy, last was nice, shower worked great, there’s a busy bar downstairs which was open late!

The sheets were stained, and the bed was the hardest I've ever slept on. The shower took a long time to drain which made the floor wet for a while. I stayed there on a Friday, and someone threw a huge party in the second floor lounge. I had been wondering about the loud music and screaming when trying to fall asleep, and when I came down the next morning, everywhere was littered with bottles and cigarettes and crazy dirty... The hostel's location is good, and the girl who staffed the counter when I checked in was nice, but overall this was not the greatest hostel experience and I am not sure I would recommend it, unless your main priority is price

Pros: Cheap, Good location, decent & clean bedding, if still quite hard, decent WiFi, fun evening vibes Cons: No shower curtains (water floods bathroom), no towels, no shower head (just one straight line of water), very loud music & talking until 4am, loud crying for over an hour from 8am (all by non-guests). Made sleep rather difficult, but might have been an isolated experience. Also: moldy walls.

A bed + hot shower, very basic. The 6 beds dormitory without a window was quite smelly.

The place is well located. I met some nice people there. It’s on top of a bar, I’m not a party person but I couldn’t hear anything in the room so it’s was fine. I don’t suggest you spend time in the common areas if you are not a smoker. It’s filled up with cigarette smoke.

Easy access to food and sights. Bathroom could’ve been cleaner
