Shangri-La Hotel Chengdu

Having been thoroughly impressed by the food and service at the Horizon Club of Shangri-La Hotel on my last visit, I didn't hesitate to choose Shangri-La Chengdu again for this trip. Firstly, a big thank you to Ms. Lu, who was previously the Horizon Club manager and has now been promoted to Front Office Manager. Her warmth and helpfulness in securing a satisfactory room for us, along with complimentary fruit and local Sichuan snacks, and arranging a late check-out, set a wonderful tone for our entire journey. Strategically located near Jiuyan Bridge and the famous Lan Kwai Fong bar street, the hotel boasts a vibrant atmosphere and unbeatable night views. However, it's a bit of a distance from the nearest metro station. The Horizon Club's 'Happy Hour' offerings are incredibly diverse and plentiful, almost like a mini-buffet, with the cakes and desserts being particularly delightful. On the other hand, breakfast was relatively simple with fewer options. My beloved handmade steamed buns weren't as tasty as before, and they felt cold, possibly having sat out for too long, which affected the texture. I'm not sure why the brown sugar glutinous rice cakes (hongtang ciba) were soft throughout, lacking their usual crispy exterior. The Eggs Benedict were inconsistent; on the second morning, the egg was overcooked with no runny yolk, just a solid egg yolk, and the accompanying bread was unappetizing. Furthermore, the egg tarts were cold and not kept under a heat lamp, and the bread station seemed to lack even basic items like muffins, which felt a bit perfunctory. Restaurant management might need some improvement; during breakfast, I noticed a whole stack of plates still had water marks, indicating they hadn't been dried properly. Nevertheless, the service staff at the Horizon Club were excellent – friendly, courteous, quick to clear dishes, attentive to guests' needs, and particularly Ms. Liu Chun, the current Horizon Club manager, who was constantly busy, very dedicated and responsible. I also checked out the coffee shop on the ground floor. While the selection of dishes was indeed more extensive, it was also very crowded and noisy. The staff member who greeted us was still very enthusiastic despite knowing we were just looking around, though some other staff members appeared cold and unresponsive. Room service was excellent – very responsive and quick to fulfill requests. When they learned we needed to air out clothes, they thoughtfully brought a drying rack, which was a very considerate touch! Room maintenance was also good, with an automatic toilet and a Dyson hairdryer. The gym isn't open 24 hours; it closes after 11 PM, and guests cannot access it with their room cards after hours, which felt a bit restrictive for those wanting to work out later. In summary, this stay brought both joy and disappointment. I hope the hotel continues to improve and enhance its services, ensuring its long-term success and continued excellence.

The hotel location is great, very convenient as it's close to the subway. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby. Across the street is a bar, perfect for a small get-together with friends by the river. The food in the executive lounge wasn't very varied, but everything else was excellent.

The Shangri-La is hands down the best place to stay in Chengdu! Located right by the Jinjiang River, it's within walking distance of Jiuyan Bridge and Lan Kwai Fong, and super convenient for getting to Taikoo Li and Chunxi Road. The room was spacious and elegant, with panoramic windows offering stunning views of the Jinjiang River, and the illuminated Anshun Bridge at night was especially enchanting. The bedding was soft and comfortable, the bathroom was clean and odor-free, and the turndown service each evening was a thoughtful touch. The Sichuan cuisine at Shang Palace was authentic and delicious, and the breakfast buffet at Cafe TOO had an incredible variety, with the freshly made dandan noodles being particularly fragrant. But what really impressed me was our butler, Sandy! Before we even checked in, she proactively contacted us via WeChat to confirm our itinerary and preferences, and even prepared a thoughtful panda gift. Check-in was efficient, and she patiently explained the hotel facilities and local sightseeing tips. Any minor issues we encountered during our stay were immediately resolved by her – she was incredibly approachable. The professionalism and warmth of this established five-star hotel, exemplified by Sandy and the entire staff, were truly outstanding. It's now definitely on my must-stay list for Chengdu, and I highly recommend it to everyone!

Every time I come back to Chengdu, I stay here. I love the night view from the window, the location, and even more so, the warm service. This time, I fell in love with the complimentary Tangyou Guozi (fried glutinous rice balls). I was so greedy, I even asked the auntie for an extra portion, and she kindly told me they were all made fresh on the same day. Thank you, lovely auntie, and thanks to Sandy for the service. You'll still be my top choice next time I return.

The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic. You get stunning views of Jiuyan Bridge from your room, both day and night. It's also super close to Metro Line 2, making it really convenient to get to Chunxi Road, Kuanzhai Alley, and Tianfu Square. All the staff are incredibly welcoming and check-in was very fast. My only minor gripe is with the mini-bar. Housekeeping only restocks the soft drinks in the afternoon and doesn't inform guests that these are chargeable. Naturally, guests assume they're complimentary. I hope the hotel can improve on this. The breakfast selection is extensive and the food is delicious. **Amenities:** Well-equipped. **Cleanliness:** Spotless and tidy. **Ambiance:** Great atmosphere.

1. This is by far the worst Horizon Club room I've stayed in domestically. Picture one shows the hotel's advertised Horizon Club room, and picture two is the Horizon Club river view twin room that a round-faced, glasses-wearing gentleman at the Horizon Club arranged for me. After I complained, the hotel's front office manager insisted it was the same room type, just different due to lighting conditions during photography. The "deluxe river view" was blocked by an old sofa, the furniture was different, the wall was different, and the mirror was different. And then there was a bathroom the same width as the toilet – this kind of setup is supposedly standard for a Horizon Club room. It's truly incomprehensible how misleading the room was. 2. I told the platform immediately that I didn't want any compensation. After multiple interventions from the hotel's customer service on Trip.com, they offered me an 80% discount on the room rate, which I found hilarious. If I was looking for an 80% discount, why wouldn't I just book the cheapest room type directly? Upon checkout, a staff member gave me a hotel aromatherapy gift, which they then told the platform was a 500-yuan compensation. The hotel welcomed me to visit again and offered to upgrade me from the most basic room type to a Horizon Club room next time, which is even more ridiculous. If your Horizon Club rooms look like the one in my picture, I wouldn't stay there even for free. In short, I encountered a very low-caliber staff member and a management that simply tried to smooth things over, which ruined my travel mood. The quality of Shangri-La's Horizon Club is now a huge question mark. 3. Aside from that gentleman, the female staff in the Horizon Club restaurant were generally warm and attentive, including the cleaning aunties. If the photos displayed on your platform don't represent the actual appearance of your rooms, then the platform should showcase the appearances of Horizon Club room types A, B, C, etc., for guests to distinguish. Also, please don't bother replying, I'm not interested in insincere responses.
