YHA Chester Trafford Hall

Picturesque area and beautiful, tranquil grounds. Rooms are separate from hall itself but everyone has access to facilities in hall …kitchen, dining, games room, etc. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly including kitchen staff serving breakfast in mornings. The place itself had a really welcoming feel. Room was spacious and clean. Grounds, beautiful and tranquil. Visited Chester and walked the wall. Chester zoo also close by which was an experience we had all looked forward to. We were three generations of family and we all enjoyed our stay. Would happily return.

We had a private ensuite room which was located in a wooden chalet near the main building. The chalet was lovely and warm during our stay which was appreciated after being out in the cold during the day. The shower was very good with plenty of hot water. There was no mirror in the room if you wanted to dry and style your hair. Only mirror is in the bathroom where of course you can’t dry your hair. We had evening meals in the hostel on 2 of the days. The food was very good but wish there was a bit more choice on the menu. The self catering kitchen is ok but quite a small room with just 2 microwaves and no ovens should you want to do your own meals. There is a comfortable dining area to sit and eat your own meals plus a lounge/dining area where you can relax or eat the hostel evening meals that you have ordered at the bar area. There is also a games room with a pool table and football table. There is a small charge for using these. There is also a small shop area where you can buy usb leads, ear plugs, pens etc. Finally you will find all the staff at the hostel very friendly and approachable and happy to help with anything.

Great youth hostel in a beautiful setting even with the rain. Thank you Ellis for all your help your a real assett to the organisation such a polite and happy to help member off staff.nothing to much trouble. Happy smiley face throughout our stay. We shall definitely be back.

Pros and cons - you get what you pay for. Hostel itself has a lovely family vibe, main areas are clean. The bedroom (private bunk room with private shower room/toilet) was unclean. I can live with the dirty walls, unhoovered carpet and mouldy shower, but the leaking toilet that has the floor soaked and the smell of it was awful. Really disappointed. You get what you pay for but that bathroom was a health hazard.

Good value basic accommodation in stable blocks. I stayed for a couple of days with two children (12 and 9) in a room with two sets of bunk beds and our own bathroom. Children enjoyed the pool table in the games room, outdoor chess and climbing trees in the grounds. Was pleased to find that they cater for coeliacs - cooked breakfast and a host of main meals (sausage and mash, pizza, pesto pasta, hot wings, fries) were all available gluten free. A child under 10 can eat for £1 with a paying adult. Bar, soft drinks and snacks all available too. WiFi available in the main house but not in the stable accommodation and signal is patchy. We stayed mid week at the beginning of July and there were large school groups staying at the same time, so best to time your meals before or after the schools use the dining room. Reception staff were really helpful and booked taxis for us into Chester and to the zoo. You can walk from the hostel to the main road to get the bus, but it's down a country road and for c.£12-14 a taxi for all of us seemed a better option. Overall a great stay - thanks to everyone at YHA for this experience!

Excellent location for exploring local area, Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks, Chester and Liverpool. Amazing looking place and ample facilities and parking. Breakfast was amazing …. full cooked veggie breakfast, with a selection of pastries, yoghurt and fruit, cereals etc…
