I had a very unique 5-day stay at the Empress Premier. Here’s the lowdown, which I provide affectionately. The rooms and the hotel itself is clearly decorated by a Chinese grandma…in 1987. This is perhaps the most unsustainable hotel on earth…and antiquated. Double wrapped bars of soap. Tiny disposable bottles for shampoo. Paper based accounting. The food is like your 8 year old nephew trying to cook for you. White bread. Potato chips. Lots of mayo. See the pic of their tuna sandwich poolside. It’s cute but fairly unappetizing. The breakfast buffet was similar. Lots of effort but not great. Service is like they have no training at all. My bathroom was cleaned but had 5 large visible female hairs all over the floor. The front desk staff doesn’t acknowledge passersby. The doorman is often absent and you’re unsure if he works there. They are all kind but fairly oblivious. The facilities are barren and perfunctory. The pool is decent and the gym is great but the lounges and other common areas are ick. Spa costs are bananas for this city. Room service options are weak. Internet is painfully awful. Guests tend to be obese walking fossils or party crowds. Since nearly all rooms are adjoining you will hear loud shouting or persistent coughing. And you will hear the marching band practicing from the school across the road. Location is outside the crazy area, which is nice. Ownership needs to stop squeezing profit so hard and invest back into this hotel. Could be so much better. I liked my stay here and I will return despite all the experiences. Whatever star rating is claimed is wrong. This is a friendly and effortful two star.

This is the first time I've encountered a toilet seat and lid that don't match – it was a bit unsettling to sit on. I could frequently hear toilets flushing from other rooms in the middle of the night, suggesting the plumbing design might be quite old. Breakfast was very mediocre, and the smell of toasted waffles was overpowering. The hotel is very eco-conscious, with reminders everywhere to conserve water. The air conditioning lacks in-room controls or a remote, and it occasionally stops working. A staff member even came in to make the bed while I was at breakfast.

The room actually has two bedrooms and one living room. There are three beds: one king-sized and two single beds, which is perfect for two families traveling together. A special thank you to Ms. Ratchanee Korn, the lobby manager, who is fluent in English, offers enthusiastic service, and is very friendly.

First impression upon entering the lobby was good, felt like a locally run establishment. They provided a nice welcome package in the room, which was a pleasant touch. However, the shower water kept fluctuating between hot and cold, and the bath towels had yellow stains – I didn't make a big deal out of it at the time. The next morning, after the staff cleaned the room, they took our room card which was in the power slot. I noticed immediately and went to the hallway to confirm. The cleaner tried to take it again, but then returned it to us. If I hadn't checked promptly, I probably would have been charged for it upon checkout. Also, the cleaner threw away my orange earplugs that I left on the bedside table. It's really hard for me to sleep without earplugs every night, so I was quite upset about that. Finally, breakfast was very disappointing – too monotonous, mainly simple Western options, and they didn't even have the most basic Southeast Asian noodle soup. I regret booking the room with breakfast. It's not as good as the Mario Pork Trotter Rice place across the street; their noodle soup is delicious. The 0.5 points out of 3.5 for service is specifically for the welcome snacks they provided. The pool is nice though.

This hotel offers incredible value for money, especially considering it was around New Year's Day when other hotels were outrageously doubling their prices. The location is a short taxi ride from the city center, which is very convenient. The cleanliness and facilities are excellent; it truly lives up to its name, 'Queen's Hotel,' with a bathtub, vanity, desk, coffee table, and sofa – absolutely luxurious! The only minor drawback was the slightly simple breakfast. I highly recommend 'Ah Hua Noodle Shop' nearby on the roadside; it's perfect for Chinese tastes.

The hotel environment is quiet, but it's relatively far from attractions like Nimman Road and Chiang Mai University, and a 25-minute walk from the Old City. It's a large hotel, with its own 4-star Queen's Hotel next door. Compared to bigger hotels, the breakfast selection is a bit limited and just average.

The room is huge and super clean! Staff are friendly. They even help me to pack the welcome gifts into a card-box in order to take it with my flight. There are varies choose in the breakfast. It is close to the night market, just about 10 minutes walk.

This is a gem tucked away somewhere near the older bazaars area. Old in an older way, but the luxury of space makes up for it. Overall I'm very happy with the start, they even give you a package of free snacks, what the heck, that's amazing. Gym is big, pool is 25-30m long, they've a sauna in the showers too, room is big, bathroom has tub and shower head separately. High value for this price point. There's a old wooden musky hotel smell, overall in the public areas —might be the upholstery but I'm not concerned by that at all.
