Alishan Sunrise B&B

Located right by the Alishan Longyin Trail, this hotel is budget-friendly with a spacious parking lot, offering easy access to nearby trails. In summer, the temperatures are consistently below 25°C in the mornings and evenings, making it a perfect escape from the heat. We even spotted a pair of Swinhoe's Pheasants while walking in the bamboo forest on the Longyin Trail! It's also conveniently located for trips to Fenqihu and the Shizhuo Tea Plantation Trail. The double room is compact but well-equipped, and the free breakfast is quite filling.

The uphill walk from the bus stop to the accommodation was a bit challenging, but it was definitely worth the effort once we arrived. The owner was incredibly helpful, explaining all about the local attractions, which was very useful. I've been to Alishan four times before, so I expected it to be similar, but the Shuishan Giant Tree trekking trail they recommended was fantastic. They also pointed out great spots for sunrise and sunset nearby, so we didn't have to go far to enjoy them. When the sun went down, we were told fireflies would appear around the property, and sure enough, they did – it was absolutely beautiful! The breakfast was very *********, but the oolong tea mantou was delicious. 😍

The environment was really subpar. When I went in, there was standing water under the sink in the bathroom, and a lot of tiny gnats. While mosquitoes are common, these little gnats indicate poor cleaning. Standing water in the toilet area also attracts small bugs from the drain. Plus, to check in, you have to walk up a slope to the building behind the front desk, which is a bit of a detour. On the positive side, the old man at the front desk was very enthusiastic.

We drove here. The proprietress was very friendly and gave us advice on which route to take to Alishan that would be easier, as we hadn't really done our homework 😂. The B&B also includes breakfast and has many adorable cats! 😍 We stayed in a double room. Since it's a wooden cabin, you can somewhat hear sounds from the next room, but everyone seemed to go to bed around 10:30-11:30 PM (I assume, because it suddenly became quiet). That's probably because everyone was planning to watch the sunrise the next day. Oh, and if you want to watch the sunrise, the proprietress will tell you where the good spots are, and they're not far at all.
