Daiwa Roynet Hotel Chiba-Chuo

The room was a bit small, but the environment was decent. It's conveniently located with great transport links. The breakfast was good and there are nice coffee shops and a 7-Eleven nearby, which is very handy. Everything else was fine, just the room size was a bit of a downside.

I booked a larger room at this hotel specifically because I had a competition the next day. I hadn't realized I booked a smoking room, but upon checking in, I found the room reeked of smoke, specifically cigar smoke, not just regular cigarettes. Initially, I thought I could just bear it for one night. However, when it was time to sleep, the strong cigar smell became unbearable, especially after leaving the room and returning, when the odor was particularly noticeable. I reported the issue to the front desk, hoping to switch rooms, even if it wasn't the same room type. But the front desk insisted that all smoking rooms smell this way and refused to move me or offer any other solutions. I understand that smoking rooms will have some smoke odor, but this strong cigar smell severely affected my rest. For a guest who needs a good night's sleep for a competition the next day, this was a really poor experience. The hotel's lack of proper handling of a reasonable guest request was the most dissatisfying aspect of my stay.

The room isn't big, but it's sufficient. It was very clean and reasonably priced. However, the daily cleaning wasn't satisfactory; they basically never washed the cups (am I, the guest, supposed to wash them myself?) and didn't restock the disposable toiletries in the bathroom. I wasn't very happy with that.

The location is excellent, making it easy to get around. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. It's a traditional hotel, consistently clean, and perfect for business trips or tourism. It's also very close to JR Chiba Station.
