Reviews of voco Thousand Island Lake

Two of my friends and I stayed at the VOCO hotel over the Dragon boat's festival in May-June, 2025. All of us really enjoyed the stay. The rooms were comfortable, and even though they were not lake-view rooms, we could still see the lake from our windows. Two of us cannot speak Chinese, and one of the managers of the hotel, whose name is Leon, took good care of us and helping us to check in and then provided a very comprehensive tour around the hotel showing all the facilities and making bookings for all kinds of activities (kayaking, hot air baloon, photoshoot) and dinners during our stay. I'd like to express my heartfelt thank you to Leon for his very kind help and assistance! The food at the a dinner and breakfast buffets was plentiful and well cooked, as well as the traditional dishes in a Chinese restaurant. Traditionally cooked fish head is a must try! Big up to Leon for recommending it! I can also vouch for all the activities that were provided by the hotel as part of the package with our rooms which included kayaking, a photo shoot and hot air ballooning. i'd like to express my gratification to the team that's arranges and carries out all the activities related to the photoshoot. Everything was really nicely done. We were really excited about this opportunity, and loved the photographs that we received as a result of it. Finally, regarding the facilities, we really enjoyed the open terrace, especially at the sunset time, where we could see beautiful light and clouds over the lake. One of the best facilities is the gym that gives you a wonderful view, as well as the infinity pool, overlooking the lake. Overall, I think the hotel gives you the best value for money in this region, and is a brilliant combination of the great service, very good facilities and additional activities, provided as part of their package. I can highly recommend it!

We had such a wonderful time at Voco! The hotel is very clean and beautiful. The views of the lake are gorgeous- especially from the breakfast restaurant and the gym. You can watch the sun set right over the water. The hotel staff members were friendly and helpful. The breakfast is delicious and there are plenty of options. I do think the restaurant prices for lunch/dinner are a bit high, but the hotel is just a walk away from other restaurants. It’s located on Yangguang Road, right along a running/walking path next to the lake. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to Qiandaohu!

This is our second stay at Voco and we returned because of the beautiful scenery, great service and wide breakfast spread. Kudos to Bill at lobby for his helpful tour related advice and May Hu (guest services) for rectifying the shower problem quickly. The staff ferrying us in the buddy was great too. In all, we are satisfied with our stay but would be great if front desk are kept aware of returning guests. We love this resort!

A beautiful hotel in a quiet location. Breakfast was a buffet to rival the best. Staff polite and accommodating.

What an amazing stay at the hotel. The pool is unbelievably beautiful. The scenery around the hotel is also great and the service was top-notch. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. We had an amazing stay! 

We had a wonderful stay at Voco. The hotel is situated right next to the lake, so you can enjoy beautiful views. The food was amazing, the whole staff extremely helpful and friendly. The front office manager Mister Xiao was especially great! We will come back as soon as possible!

This is really an awesome hotel with a beautiful view of the lake. Unfortunately the pool was already closed for swimming. The sunset 🌅 this days was stunning. Breakfast buffet is great. A clear recommendation 👍🏻

Wonderful hotel , with a warm welcome from English speaking manager and staff on our arrival. Airy, light and comfortable rooms are stylish and well equipped with top range toiletries and everything you need. The hotel s balconies and restaurants overlook the lakes, a restful way to take in the impressive views.

The hotel switched off the central air conditioning making the whole hotel including our room very stuffy in the hot afternoons and at night. The quilt cover in bed was very thick but we could not adjust the room temperature so I was woken up by the heat in the middle of the night and couldn’t sleep again. We opened the window but the road noise kept me awake at about 5 am in the morning. I had very poor sleep because of this. The Chinese restaurant had a great view but we left after 2 minutes because it was super hot and stuffy at 530pm, we couldn’t enjoy the nice lake view at that restaurant. Hotel F&B is very expensive, the 2kg fish head soup cost CNY580. You can have a 1.8kg fish head soup at CNY168 which is very delicious, just outside the hotel on the food street. We ordered the fried rice which cost CNY88. The F&B vouchers cannot be used for alcoholic beverages. Basically we book an accommodation for good night sleep but this hotel, despite all the seemingly nice peripherals, couldn’t even ensure a comfortable sleeping environment hence not worth the money. We didn’t use all the other vouchers as we only stayed 2 nights, no time to use. Free Minibar is only for 1 night. There is only 1 small can of beer, not 2 as some earlier reviews mentioned. This is the only accommodation among all our stays that didn’t provide proper air conditioning, it’s very disappointing. Not recommended. The hotel staff are all very nice though.

Overall is ok, with a great restaurant, and a chef making superb omelet. But there are 3 points that made the experience a bit disappointing: 1. the gym was temporarily closed. 2. The room I booked, a king Deluxe, was very very small, too small for being a Deluxe, and for a leisure hotel like this. The bathroom has no bathtub, and even not enough space for towels. 3. The staff was always apologizing for some inconvenient, but didn't instead try to solve the problem. For instance in the pool side, I asked for a couple of drinks with ice and straw: they had no straw and no ice there, and didn't want to ask the bar or the restaurant to bring, so I only can take it in that way, with their apologies. Really not what you expect in this kind of hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay with its unique and beautiful view over the lake! Breakfast very diverse and cater for western and chinese customers! Enjoyed the short walks around the hotel and walking path next to the lake. Local restaurants nearby for dinner (10 minute walk if golf cart is not used for drop off). Room was a loft (2 floor room) and spacious for the 5 of us (3 adults and 2 children). Playroom for our daughter was so far the best out of all the hotels and resorts we visited! Were welcomed friendly and assisted taking our luggage to room on arrival. Overall we would definitely want to visit again in the summer when the swimming pool is in action!
