We had a one night stay at Cley Windmill. I think it was one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. The surroundings are beautiful the view from our room with a balcony was breathtaking. Everything is so clean and well maintained , the room comfortable and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was excellent with plenty to choose from and my Salmon eggs Arlington were cooked to perfection. It is a great place to unwind after a long working week and a magical venue to have a wedding. The staff is very friendly, polite and professional making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. We will certainly go back again. Thank you.🙂

We stayed at Cley Windmill for a wedding and it was absolutely magical from start to finish. The rooms were exceptionally comfortable, with luxurious linens and high-quality toiletries that made our stay feel truly special. Breakfast was a real highlight, delicious and beautifully cooked with fresh local ingredients. The orange juice was particularly good! The staff were incredibly friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful, going out of their way to make sure everything ran smoothly. The location is simply stunning, surrounded by breathtaking views and full of character. We honestly can’t rate Cley Windmill highly enough. It’s a unique and wonderful place to stay, perfect for a wedding, a romantic getaway or simply a peaceful retreat.

My husband and I are just back from one night at the Windmill. On arrival Sarah checked us in and also looked after us when we returned after dinner. A lovely lady. The River room was a nice size. The room had everything we needed…. Lovely thick white towels, nice bedding, fresh milk in the fridge and even an iron and board. Breakfast this morning was good. A buffet including cereal, a huge bowl of fruit, yogurts and croissants. Also good options for the hot stuff, including fish. I have given four stars for this experience as the shower was very slow with the water intermittent, but it didn’t detract from our enjoyable stay here.

Don’t go expecting a luxury boutique hotel but what it lacks in luxury it makes up in quirkiness and charm. Friendly staff and I highly recommend the local smoked kippers for breakfast. The room was rustic and basic but the bed was comfortable!

Bar one issue, this was awesome. The staff, the food, the setting, the windmill itself, the location - all absolutely fantastic. We loved it. But oh my god the mattress. Soft as jelly - so bad I had to sleep on the floor (and I really did). The rooms in the windmill are of course not that large. Thry are cute, fascinating and great to enjoy But the small rooms means that the beds are modest in size. I have no issue with that. But when the bed is small, the last thing one wants is a soft mattress so you end up rolling into the middle - which we did. To be clear it did not spoil our stay. The place is beautiful. But our night’s sleep was not great as a result.

The Cley Windmill has a wonderful position on the north Norfolk coast that feels almost remote. Staff were helpful and professional but not intrusive. The venue we would describe as quirky rather than luxurious. The fixtures and fittings are similarly presented in that they are homely bordering on rustic. The breakfast menu was extensive and tasty. The portions served at dinner were plentiful and were like home cooked food rather than haut cuisine. It was certainly an experience staying at the Windmill!

What a treat! We stayed at the Dovecote and it was really lovely. Well equipped, very clean, very comfortable and warm. The breakfasts in the Windmill itself were delicious.....so good to have fresh fruit, and the full English was excellent. The whole experience was great and made a quiet birthday weekend very special.

What a lovely place to stay . We booked at the last minute and were lucky enough to get a nice room in the actual windmill. The room was spacious and very comfortable and had its own private garden overlooking the marshes. Although the room was a little chilly the very nice receptionist soon sorted this out and was nice and warm afterwards. Lots of hot water for the bath also. It’s a pity we could not stay longer . Breakfast was also very good and cooked to order . Would definitely recommend a stay here

This was a birthday gift and I loved it, could only stay one night but wish we’d stayed for longer. The room was clean, comfortable and the amenities were generous. Breakfast was good and all the staff we met were lovely. There is a small car park which gets busy with a walking route straight to the beach. Heating was on all night so a bit warm and the shower pressure is a bit low depending on how hot you want it but these are just observations nothing that would stop me staying again and considering you are in the middle of nowhere both are understandable conditions of staying in a windmill!

Beautiful place and venue. Rooms where ok but cold. Said on check in could adjust 2 of the radiators in the room but these didn't seem to do much when we did adjust and the bathroom was on full with an electric radiator but always freezing. Had the food on the 1st night at windmill but due to both being vegi had no idea what we where going to eat before we arrived and when sat at table only had the meat options of menu available to refer to. Just felt a bit left out compared to others eating in the restaurant who knew what there menu was weeks in advance. On the 1st morning was looking forward to full cooked breakfast as highly rated within the reviews, but no electricity so no hot water for showers or hot drinks, no cooked breakfast was a few croissants but not enough for all staying. Was not offered any type of refund for not having this breakfast or any type of hot water being offered for a hot drink from neighbouring cafes or pubs that had electricity, until around 3ish in the afternoon which was way to late as had gone into Holt and bought a hot cooked breakfast by this point. 2nd night was very disappointed with the lack of vegi options from the 1st night so went to local pub a 2 mins walk away and had very tasty vegi meal and a number of options to choose from on that menu for all dietary requirements. 2nd morning did have electricity but seem to have run out of oil so no heating. And the whole service at breakfast was very faulty towers even one of the waiting staff referred to it like that as well. How can a hotel run out of heating oil I just do not know. On check out not even asked how our stay was or a mention of a slight refund for the various issues raised above. We where visiting to check out this as one of the top places in Norfolk to get married but didn't meet any of my expectations and would be highly disappointed if I had got married on this weekend with all the issues that went wrong. Received an email prior to writing this review whereby they wanted to discuss any negative feedback to be able to review and sort out 1st. Which we did reply and raise the same issues by which the response was quite shocking and not going to accept that they could of given a better service than they did, so sorry had to write this review. As the stay was not worth the money, we will not be returning and definitely will not be getting married within this venue.

Warm, welcoming, friendly, delicious breakfast, staff so friendly and can’t do enough to make the stay enjoyable, the interiors are snug and well done, everything you need is provided. Recommended. The views are incredible but the Windmill itself is iconic and it is really special to stay in it or in one of the rooms in the buildings outside, we stayed in the boat house which was lovely, warm, they provided a bed and blanket and treats for our dog so it was lovely

We had a fabulous lunch at Cley windmill and the whole experience was first class. We were welcomed into the cosy lounge bar by Sarah, whose service was delightful throughout, and our drinks and menus arrived promptly. The cooking served up by Wendy was top notch fare, each of us having a sublime fish pie followed by a towering pear and chocolate pavlova. The dining room in the windmill is a beautiful and different space with no background muzak to boot. We then had a cafetière of excellent decaffeinated coffee back in the lounge bar. Our meal at Cley windmill was by far the best we have enjoyed on our travels in north Norfolk and highly recommended.

We recently hired the mill out for our wedding. I can only give them my highest recommendations. All of the guests slept well in the comfortable rooms, the staff are amazing and accommodated everyone’s needs. The new onsite catering offered a fantastic breakfast and the evening meal they provided was beyond expectations. All of the guests were extremely happy with the time they spent there.

We have been looking for a reliable and good quality place in North Norfolk for years and finally found one in The Cley Windmill. It is what it seems - a very old Windmill converted into a hotel with some additional cottages. The main rooms are in the tower and mainly look out over the salt marsh to the coast. We were in the Wheat Chamber in the first floor and it is a great dual aspect room. Compact, but more than spacious enough for a one week stay. Everything you want is there, Tea, coffee, good wi fi, bottled water replenished every day, a comfortable bed and good storage space. The bathroom is efficient with good quality toiletries. The only marginal issue is that being in a very old building, the floors are a bit slopey in places but its not an issue One window looks out to the sea - we had marsh harriers and bar owls cruising past regularly - and the other looks towards Wiveton. The coast path is literally running through the car park and it's about 20 minutes to walk to Cley NNR and an hour to Blakeney. In Cley itself the George and Dragon pub/restaurant is literally across the road, plus the other deli/smokeries in town. Breakfast is excellent and the staff friendly, courteous and efficient. Highly recommended.

Fantastic service , friendly staff and very lovely unpretentious food of excellent quality. A beautiful setting with a great view of the sunset as we were lucky enough to have the window seat. Love the idea of the set menu as it makes for a different experience . We’re all guilty of playing safe and always choosing the same thing when we eat out so refreshing not to have a choice and try different things.
