Reviews of Canaima Chill House

The other reviews must be fake. The hotel tries to scam you. There is no staff to talk to in the afternoons and they won't work at all on Thursday. The place is extremely far from the center and it's a very extreme uphill drive. We booked and didn't realize you needed a 4x4 and they did not refund or cancel or booking although it's impossible for us to get there. Please watch out.

The place was a beautiful sanctuary we highly recommend the pool. The hot tub in the outdoor space was amazing. The white face monkeys visit us a few times, and the owner sat down and took time to tell us what to do and see cannot express enough to recommend this place.

Wonderful chill place, cool room and terrace, in the forest, great to relax, outdoor beds, pools, lots of wildlife, exactly what we were looking for to spend our adventurous family vacation in Costa Rica.

If things were working properly, this would be a better review. The location is a bit impractical uphill on a rocky road, away from the main street. Our first 2 nights we had no hot water. On the 3rd night the power and running water went out. We couldn’t even flush the toilet. We slept in the car since it was too humid in the room, and we had to beg a security guard at another hotel in town to let us use the bathroom at 4am. Now I understand the power and running water going out was not the fault of the host, Joel. However, Joel did not mention this at all and charged full price as if they provided basic plumbing and electricity. We were surprised at the lack of hospitality. Also, we did not receive any email or confirmation after booking. When we arrived the host asked for cash, instead of taking card, which was not requested anywhere.

The chill house was just okay. Had I taken time to research more I would have stayed in a different place on the beach side that provide more in terms of amenities, services and ambiance. The Chillhouse location is not ideal. It is located next to a dusty and noisy road during both day and night. I struggled with breathing the entire time I was there. ATVs and vehicles are constantly struggling to climb the hill so expect tons of dust during your stay during the dry season. I can only imagine the frustration one would experience climbing the hill during the rainy season. You have to have an ATV or 4x4 vehicle to climb the hill…be sure to reserve one before you arrive due to the limited supply in Santa Teresa. There were ants on the cabinets constantly. The place is okay but a bit old and needs a refresh. The neighbors were loud after 2 am. I reported them and received an apology message the next morning from the staff. However, the issue was never addressed with the noisy neighbor. Ask during check in about the cleaning service as the cleaning lady only cleaned our room when we were in the room.

Nice and original place in the forest. But the access is impossible without a 4x4. The hotel needs refreshment and a bit more cleaning. Nobody at the reception all day long so it's like a to go hotel....surpprising ! The real good point : you sleep in the forest...

Very nice location, close to Santa Teresa but not too close. An excellent choice to have everything at hand but not the noise and dirt of the main road. We spent there 2 wonderful days enjoying the beaches and the vibes.

What a wonderful boutique hotel! It is located in the jungle, so you awake to the sounds of birds and howler monkeys! The hotel is beautifully decorated and fits its surroundings and its name as chill house! The people are very sweet and helpful. The location is perfect, just tucked away in the jungle but close to the town of Santa Teresa.

Nuestra estancia en Canaima fue espectacular. Desde el primer momento nos hicieron sentir como en casa. El alojamiento es espectacular, estar rodeado de vegetación hace que puedas desconectar al 100%, el cual era nuestro motivo principal. Sin duda, repetiremos.
