Globe Hotel

My wife and I had a lovely overnight stay, and would certainly recommend it.

We paid £80 thinking it looked nice online, it's the kind of place that should be charging £20 for somewhere to sleep if your desperate, It's basically 'digs' ... the location and car park are the only redeeming features. We booked a double bed and when we got in found it was 2 singles pushed together with a duvet that wasn't big enough to go over. There were holes on the curtains, the coat hook dangled off the wall and there were loose cables on the wall. Most disappointing was the bathroom which was walled in 360° plastic and tiny it looks like a portaloo with a shower... I complained and was told by the 'night porter' ? That we would never get our money back from the owners, it seems they have loads of complaints. We were given a room in there other hotel across the road which was definitely less terrible.. but not exactly special.

We stayed here for convenience as we had an early start the next morning for an event. On check in we were handed the key card (and were given which felt like a warning about the cameras all over the hotel, I know most hotels have cameras but I have never been told this upon check in?!) The bedroom itself was large but holes in the curtains light bulb missing from lamp and a tiny bathroom was making this £80 stay feel a little less comfortable and more like a huge money waster. Room above us was heard constant all night long pacing and thudding across the room, when I say all night I mean it was literally from early evening right up until we checked out at 7am we called the night porter at 11pm (maybe to ask they keep the thudding noise down slightly) and was told he was “surprised they hadn’t gone out yet”. When they eventually left and after making a huge noise down the stairwell we managed to grab 2 hours sleep only to be woken again with them thundering across the room thinking ok they’ve been out they’ll get into bed and sleep it off.. oh no how wrong we were to think that!! To top the whole sleepless night off they had someone shouting “Alfie” at 4am.. they went down to them and as the windows were open due to it being a muggy night we had to listen to their ever exciting chat I tried to close the window but that wouldn’t even shut properly. We tried everything to blank the noise from the room upstairs out with headphones and a louder tv but my advise to anyone wanting to get their head down, don’t waste your money. The rooms aren’t sound proof what so ever and if anything I didn’t feel safe and comfortable staying at this place. Think you can guess.. We wont be returning! If your looking for a free car park they do however have one of those.

3 of us had booked 2 rooms at this hotel as we were attending a concert close by. Arrived at the hotel booked through Booking. Com to check in at 4.30 to find all doors locked, sign said if locked go to reception at hotel next door Star Anglia, this was also locked. A random lady (guest?) came into view in the Globe and said she’d call them, she then said he’d told her no check ins for the day. I rang & he said I’m coming over I’ll be 2 minutes. When he arrived and unlocked doors he let us in & checked the computer confirming no booking, despite me showing him my confirmation & that the £ has been collected from my bank. I then spent 30 minutes on hold to *********** to try to sort out the problem. By the time I got through another lady turned up (manager?) and within seconds she found the booking and said I’ve upgraded you. We were then shown into rooms in the Star Anglia. These rooms were really nice and roomy and looked fairly new. Breakfast was however supposed to be served in the Globe, but when we went over the next morning again it was all locked up but our key cards opened the main door. No sign of any staff/guests, no sign of breakfast, so went to a nearby pub for food. We were shocked at the sight of broken furniture etc I’m so glad we ended up next door. Tbh if we’d had rooms in the Globe I’m not sure we’d have stayed. It’s very run down, dirty & smelly. Very strange set up no staff in reception whenever we went in or out. Would have rated 1 star but our alternative room ended up being very nice.
