The hotel was nice, but Ctrip went too far. I booked a room for over $300 USD and was assigned the worst room type. The balcony opened onto a large terrace (with the restaurant's roof remaining), so even though the hotel is very close to the beach, the second-floor balcony offered absolutely no view of the sea; you could only see a sliver of water in the distance. The hotel claimed that Ctrip offered a very low price, hence the room type, but Ctrip actually charged such a high price.

Second visit to this hotel and sadly we won’t rush back as standards have considerately declined. The hotel is in need of a full renovation, furniture in our room was tired, stained, scratched with the drawers unstable. Cleaning staff woke us every day, early mornings so no chance of a lie in on holiday! To be fair our room was cleaned to a fashion daily. We paid for half board and found the food to be tepid as it’s cooked in the back kitchen and doesn’t retain its temperature. Quality of meals very disappointing being served cooked carrots and green beans for breakfast is not what most people would expect of a 4 star hotel. When we spoke to local bars they advised us they were busy with hotel guests eating there as the hotel had been bought out by a German company who were cutting corners to save money! Queues to enter the buffet style restaurant were large and the other restaurant at the hotel was closed during our visit hence we ate out. The lower infinity pool bar was closed for most of our stay potentially as the weather was hit and miss, however the sun loungers are stained, worn and uncomfortable. I mentioned the food quality at reception and the blonde lady shrugged her shoulders! Entertainment was as mentioned in previous reviews tailored to over 70s Overall a very poor experience
Response from Property: Dear Charlotte, Thanks for your feedback. We're very sorry your visit wasn't to your liking. In order to fulfil every guest expectations regarding food, our main buffet and restaurants offer a great selection of exquisitely presented local and international dishes which are prepared daily with the utmost care and using fresh ingredients. We regret that we failed to live up to your expectations and we can assure that we do check daily our food offer, combining quality and variety catering for all tastes. Certainly, we will share your opinion for further consideration. However, we regret that our facilities did not meet your expectations. Please be aware that we are constantly working on renovating our properties and that your comments will be taken into account in this process. We place great importance in providing our guests with unforgettable experiences and it is disappointing to see that you left our hotel thinking otherwise. We appreciate our guests’ comments since they help us improve our services, and for this reason, your impressions will be shared with the relevant department. We hope to surprise you positively on your next stay. Sincerely, Hotel Riu Arecas Online Reputation Management

My husband and I booked this last minute 10 night holiday here, it was “ on special” with Tui. We arrived late and we were really surprised to find that a cold meal had been prepared and left for us in the restaurant with a bottle of water. It was greatly appreciated. Our room was really lovely, very clean and with a nice unexpected sea view. The hotel is immaculately clean and the gardens and pool areas are kept really well. The main restaurant is very very busy at both breakfast and evening meal. The food is very good, lots of choices and show cooking. The staff are attentive and usually friendly! This hotel is very big with lots of guests but we still found it very quiet and peaceful and relaxing. We got sun beds easily every day despite the early morning rush to reserve the best spots. Our room maid kept our room spotless with little finishing touches which was really nice. There are a lot of steps to climb when you are out and about, but we are an elderly couple and managed ok. There are walks either side of the hotel, our favourite walk was to the right of the hotel to the fishing village, we had an amazing seafood lunch there at La Caleta restaurant. We didn’t sample the evening entertainment in the hotel but it was always busy. There was only one thing that we didn’t like. TUI described the hotel as totally non smoking in all areas. This is simply not true. The smokers have their own stinky designated area and when they all congregate the wafting cigarette smoke is disgusting. There were occasions where people were smoking and vaping around the pool despite the no smoking rule.
Response from Property: Dear Judith, We thank you for your feedback. We are really happy to learn that overall, you had a positive experience. It would be fantastic to see you again very soon :) Loving Greetings, Hotel Riu Arecas Online Reputation Manager

This was my first adults only holiday and it was amazing. There are no activities at the hotel, which was absolutely fine, but there are a whole load of the most beautiful shopping centres and eateries in very close proximity and some lovely walks to be had. There is an amazing market a short walk away a couple of days a week. The hotel itself was great, couldn't fault it. Great atmosphere, the rooms were lovely, the beds were very comfortable (most important), it was spotlessly clean, the food was wonderful, the staff were great, loads of sunbeds and the private beach and pools are amazing. I have never gone back to the same hotel twice in all my life but I will definitely be going back to this one!

Amazing food, great staff, and a wonderful stay! We had a fantastic time at the Hotel Riu Arecas. The food throughout our stay was absolutely amazing with a great variety of delicious options. Every staff member we encountered was welcoming, but a special shoutout goes to Roberto on reception. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and looked after. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. The pools were amazing and lovely and warm! Great location on Playa del Duque. The excellent service at this hotel, combined with the relaxing adults-only atmosphere, made our mini break absolutely perfect. We highly recommend this hotel and have already booked to return in September!

First time going to Tenerife as we always have done Turkey, hotel recommended by our travel agent who has been to Tenerife several times. Honestly, this hotel is fantastic, rooms are very clean, spacious bathroom and a great pool area, bar staff can't help you enough, gym is decent, we used it four times while staying at the hotel. Food, wow, its some of the nicest food we have had in any country, amazing choice with tasty meats and fish every night, breakfast has a range of options, omelet freshly made, fruit as much as you like and yogurt, washed down with prosecco. Staff so friendly. My only gripe is the location, if you don't mind walking its great but anyone who struggles with mobility, its not the best. Overall its still a fantastic hotel, highly recommended

2nd visit at this hotel & still a fave! Friendly greeting from moment you arrive! Quick and easy checkin (do online on the riu app) Special request made was delivered (requested on the riu app) Room clean and comfortable just wish a socket near the mirror in the bedroom. Towels defo need upgrading they are tired & small but not huge issue. Staff are great really friendly & cant do enough for you work super hard! Enjoyed the food, and the drinks are great, branded and very good value. Entertainment was ok not as good the acts as last year. Location is far end of Adeje 20-30 minutes to Fanabe then further 10 to Porto Colon. Taxis only bout 8 euro. Supermarket uphill 5 mins. Riu party every friday good night out and really nice its free transport & drinks

We came back this year as so impressed last year !!!! Whats Happening Rui ??? Some of your staff are extremely rude to the point of almost aggression. you wait ages for a drink in the main bar in the evening a lot of staff just ignore you and walk around pretending to look busy. One girl in particular I think her name was mila long brown curly hair , she was vile to us . She was an arms length away we called her 4 or 5 times she glared at us then kicked the chair and walked away . We immediately complained to her manager but was obviously not taken seriously as she carried on with the dirty looks all night. We felt very intimidated . I was also shouted at by the pool man for trying to have an early swim it was my first day and I didn't realise the pool opened at 8am, fair enough to point that out to me but not in the manner he did i felt like crying afterwards. Some positives though.. Food had plenty of choice and nice. Pool bar much better service especially Raul he was always happy to serv us. Beds are comfy Rooms kept very clean the house keeping staff go above and beyond.. Rui you need to address the situation as you are putting people off coming back again and you are taking less money in the bar by not serving paying guests !!!

We've stayed at the Riu Arecas many times over the last few years. We stayed here this time for 9 nights half board (breakfast and dinner, drinks not included) We like the hotel, it has a good feel to it in general, with a nice crowd (we've never seen so many people dance at a Riu hotel) The size of the dance floor is far too small, and also entertainment finishes FAR TOO EARLY at about 10.30pm... with absolutely nothing on after this... which is ridiculous. Entertainment should be on until at least 11pm please (suggestion... if noise to the nearby rooms is an issue then pull the glass doors closed after the entertainment finishes and have some music on until midnight so people can dance) It's a very busy & often full occupancy hotel, which must be a great plus for Riu Hotels & Resorts. We've love the adults only concept. The cleanliness of the hotel everywhere is very good. The food is always good and "some" of the staff are helpful and friendly. Nice enough rooms & bathrooms, the colour palate is very "brown" Brown tiles everywhere, brown curtains, brown (wornout) furniture (see photos) We would say the rooms would now benefit from a small refresh/change of curtains and furniture maybe. The chance to go to visit either the Neon or White party (depending on your length of stay) held at the Riu Buenavista every Friday night is a nice option also. Overall a good hotel, great location and good food, lots of options at the buffet. The Spanish Restaurant is a nice touch too if you're bored of the buffet. 'Andrew' on the front desk is exceptional, so friendly & excellent customer service. Our main observation is that the sunbathing terrace by the infinity pool at the beach area needs some parasols (there aren't any) Also, some of the woven/wicker/Tiki parasols at the beach need some attention/maintenance, many of them are worn out, see through & not effective as a sun shade (see photo) At the main pool areas (nearest the hotel) the concrete flooring is all broken up/degrading & very gritty (see photo) this also needs attention/maintenance. Many of the retractable sun canopies/pergola style sun shades are broken/aren't retractable with a cord/pulley (a member of staff can only operate them) how ridiculous... again, maintenance issues. WiFi is TERRIBLE. Disconnected CONSTANTLY. Reserving of sunbeds here at this hotel is in absolute FULL FORCE, Sunbeds being reserved from about 7am, very selfish of other guests. Here are my pointers both positive ✅️ & negative ❌️ Great ✅️ ✅️ Clean throughout. ✅️ Great Housekeeping (Everything is always restocked & cleaned) ✅️ Large rooms ✅️ Comfortable beds (shame there is no duvet though) ✅️ Great bathrooms (water restrictors on taps is annoying) poor water pressure ✅️ Fantastic food selection (albeit a little repetitive) ✅️ Good bar service and great drinks ✅️ Great refurbished Gym/Fitness centre ✅️ Good swimming pools, temperature good (Warm enough to swim comfortably) However, there are MANY negative

Very good hotel with an excellent choice of food at both breakfast and evening. The rooms were cleaned daily and were comfortable, we had booked a pool view room but wouldn’t say it had the best view of the pool areas but had a nice sea view. All the staff were very friendly and always smiling. Entertainment was the usual hotel cheesy acts but didn’t bother us as we went out most nights. The hotel is quite a walk from the main hustle and bustle of Las Americas and Los Christianos and a taxi worked out at about €15 each way.
