We, as a family of 3 including our 4 year old son, stayed in this hotel between 13th to 15th April'24. We were allocated in Tenzing Nor*** wing at first floor, in one of the deluxe rooms. The hotel attracted as as it was originally of Coochbehar Maharaja's summer holiday house but what this hotel left on us is the perfection of cleanliness, service speed, ***nered and learned reception, waiters and a very fulfilling experience. If the traffic outside brothers you, coming back to the hotel will offer complete solace. Location is perfect - a few steps away from the mall. Food was great (specially the egg pakodas). Hotel decor is marvellous but how well and near they have maintained it, that's an achievement. Evening high tea is recommended.

We stayed at the Elgin, Darjeeling for 3 nights. We had a premium room, at the lower level, in the Tenzing building. The hotel had already told us there isn't a good view from the room; it had 1 window facing a road. The hotel is in a good location; about 5 min walk from the central touristy location (char rasta). But walking on roads in Darjeeling is a pain, because the roads are narrow and there is constant traffic. The hotel reception staff were helpful, first with the booking and during our stay (checkin, checkout, etc.). There are 2 buildings where the rooms are located; it is better to get a room in the same building as the reception since it has better access to the sitting area, restaurant and bar. We were in the Tenzing building, which is a short walk away, which can be a bit of an inconvenience if it is cold or raining. The room was pretty spacious, with a bed (it was 2 small beds joined together and there are 2 twin mattresses with a small gap), 2 chairs, small table, TV. The bed was definitely not up to the mark: the mattresses were soft, bedsheet was too small so it would come off from under the mattress, the comforter was old & worn out without a proper cover. There was no central heating; there was a room heater which takes time to heat the room. There is no desk. This is an old hotel, with its charm, etc. but that also means that there are some small inconveniences. The bathroom was refurbished, so there was a geyser which provided hot water, a bath tub and a stall shower. There were some basic supplies like soap, sewing ket, dental kit - no shaving kit, limited towels. There is a small closet inside the bathroom with a small storage. Housekeeping doesn't do a thorough job; there was dirt in several places, including on the mirror in the bathroom. On our first day, there was no tea/coffee in the room; they provided it after we called. We ordered room service once, and it was fast. We had breakfast at the restaurant every day; breakfast is basic but good - juices, cereals, baked items, eggs, some Indian items like poha, idli, etc. We had dinner once and it was a big disappointment - the parathas were hard like papads. They also told us that dinner had to be pre-ordered before 7:30pm, but didn't tell us they have a buffet dinner. It was hard to understand the pricing, some common items were very expensive, and some other items like Indian curries were cheap. Overall, the room was functional, most of the staff was helpful and nice. We stayed at Mayfair during our previous trip and that was better (in the same price range).

We had a three-day stay in March 24. The old heritage property has it's own charm. It's a beautiful property, very well maintained with proper amenities. The food is very good and the staffs are efficient, and cooperative. The rooms are comfortable. The sit out area with a beautiful view of the valley and the lounge further add to the pleasure. Even the spa is also very good. Yes, there's no lift. But except for the very old, it should not be a problem. We will look forward to come back here sometimes later.

Extremely disappointed with the service provided during my recent stay at the property. After selecting The Elgin Darjeeling over the Taj based on promising reviews of its historical significance, my experience fell far short of expectations. Throughout our stay, my companion and I encountered consistently poor service during both dinner and breakfast. It was evident that certain guests received preferential treatment, which was disheartening to witness. While I refrain from making any caste or country-based remarks, I feel compelled to address the pervasive nature of these issues across multiple instances. Despite bringing our concerns to the attention of the on-site ***ager, the subpar service persisted, leading us to conclude that it may have been intentional. This realization left us deeply disappointed and dissatisfied with our overall experience at your hotel. We also raised the same to the Property ***ager. Comparatively, our stay at The Elgin Nor Khill Gangtok immediately prior to arriving at your property was a stark contrast. The staff at that establishment exemplified courtesy and promptness, further emphasizing the disparity in service quality. In the spirit of constructive feedback, I intend to share my experience, with hopes that it may prompt improvements in service delivery for future guests. I sincerely hope that steps will be taken to address these issues.

The staff is polite and very nice. I am giving it 4 stars only because of the dining room. Staff though very polite was not prepared for breakfast. The chairs were stained and dirty. When we checked in we got a room overlooking the courtyard with a full blast party going on. Front Desk was great in moving us to a quieter room. So we appreciate that. If the dining room can be cleaned property I would give 5 stars

My recent experience at The Elgin Darjeeling was nothing short of disappointing, marred by the hotel's of Ms. Subrata Nandy. From start to finish, it was evident that she lacked even the most basic training in guest relations. The rudeness exhibited by Ms. Nandy was simply unacceptable. It was abundantly clear that they were ill-equipped to interact with guests in a polite and respectful ***ner. Their fake attitudes only served to exacerbate the situation, leaving a sour taste in my mouth. Furthermore, the complete lack of coordination among the backend team members was glaringly obvious. It was as though they were operating in solos, the frontend team was completely unaware of the email that was forwarded to me from the backend. Adding to the frustration, most of the phone numbers listed on the hotel's website was non-functional, making it difficult to contact the staff for assistance. This lack of accessibility further highlighted the hotel's disregard for guest satisfaction. What's more, despite providing ample evidence of a legitimate reason for canceling one of our booked rooms due to a guest's unfortunate accident, the hotel refused to issue a refund or provide a credit note for future use. Ms. Subrata Nandy's repeated abrupt call disconnections during our attempts to resolve the matter only added insult. We’ve almost paid 1 Lakh for 4 rooms for 2 nights. We’ve just requested to cancel 1 room before 72 hours of check in, that’s it guys. A perfect example of a big hotel with a small heart. I don’t believe how these guys are making it to the hospitality industry. In conclusion, The Elgin Darjeeling offers subpar service at an exorbitant price. If you're looking for a heritage property with rude hospitality, then by all means, book a stay here. However, if you value professionalism and guest satisfaction, I would strongly advise against it. My experience with Ms. Subrata Nandy has left me deeply disappointed and disillusioned with this establishment, specially her rude behavior. I think she is a complete misfit for your organization, she is only fit for the hotels that charges less than 1K per night where the primary focus of the guest is cheap price and not services.

It’s a beautiful property overlooking the valley. We had the attic suite room with a fabulous view of the mountains and valley. The location of the hotel makes it convenient to walk to the Mall Road and local sightseeing. The food and the service were very good and we had great time. Please note there is no elevator for persons with restricted movement. One could opt for rooms near the reception and dining room. Overall a great place to stay.

had a pleasant stay -this being our second in the last 5 years -a lot has changed including the icon who helmed and kept this property glittering notwithstanding its age....what hasn't changed -and first about that it the warmth and personal attentions specially the ever present and ever attentive Mr.Badal...let me now come to what seems to have changed -the experience in the Dining room -on the last day of the trip, having gone for breakfast and waited sufficently -I had to finally ask a attendant why it was taking so long to at least approach a guest(specially since there were only 4-5 groups occupying an otherwise empty Sunday breakfast area) -to my surprise -the attendant raised his voice to a level audible to others that "you need to wait -you can't just expect service the moment you come in", he walked away in a huff and in a local language easy to follow and clearly audible -expressed this to a fellow attendant -as a "punishment" for "ruffling" the attendant -my request(oats, eggs, tea) came after a long wait and 2-3 reminders -questions: a)is it not ***datory for guests to be attended within a reasonable time period of being seated?b)can the attendant who may be having a bad day show his frustration on a customer...Not "Elgin", not the "Oberoi DNA" that it carried. Mr.Badal while apologetic to this incident couldnt undo the bad taste it left behind..
