Garden Hotel

Datong Garden Hotel is a 4-star hotel located in the ancient city, and my stay this time was fantastic. First off, its location is absolutely superb, with attractions like Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and Fahua Temple all within easy reach. Secondly, the hotel staff are incredibly service-oriented, responding quickly and providing warm, thorough, and attentive service. Although the hotel's facilities are a bit older, they are very well-maintained, clean, and tidy, making for a comfortable stay. What's more, the hotel is also a long-standing dining establishment, offering reasonably priced food with portion sizes that are thoughtfully designed for guests. I'd definitely recommend this hotel!

Extremely satisfied! The location is fantastic, making it easy to pop back to the hotel for a break when visiting city attractions, no taxi needed. The service was excellent; buckwheat pillows and other items I requested were delivered to my room promptly. I also had a chance to try out the recreation center. The food was delightful. After trying several restaurants, I still preferred the flavors at Garden Hotel the most. I had two dinners and three breakfasts, and all were very much to my liking.

The rooms were comfortable, and the service was excellent. The breakfast was delicious and had a great variety. The restaurant on the second floor of the hotel was so good that my family and I ate there for two days straight. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong.

Excellent location! The facilities have been renovated and aren't as old as I expected. There are many great restaurants nearby, and you can walk to all the attractions within the ancient city. For places outside, you can take the direct shuttle (it's a 5-minute taxi ride to the station). And as many have said, the breakfast was indeed delicious!

Centrally located in the ancient city, right next to Gulou, and within walking distance to attractions like Jiulongbi, Huayan Temple, and Daiwangfu. Great food options like Longjuxiang are also nearby. It's so convenient to pop back to the hotel for a rest when you're tired before continuing your sightseeing. The hotel staff are all very polite and always greet you with a smile. The hotel is very clean, and the drinks in the mini-fridge are surprisingly affordable, even cheaper than outside! We specially tried the recommended Chinese restaurant, and the food was delicious, especially the ribs – so tender they practically melt in your mouth, absolutely amazing. I was very satisfied with this stay and hope the hotel continues to thrive.

This hotel is right in the ancient city, and the location is fantastic. The Drum Tower is just a short walk away. There are plenty of dining options and public transport is very convenient. Even though room rates soared during the May Day holiday, they still offered some special-priced rooms. Ours was on the -1 floor and didn't have a window, but it wasn't an issue at all. It felt pretty much like a regular room, especially since we were only there to sleep for a few hours and shower. Just like last time, they provided thoughtful amenities like fruit and yogurt. For us, heading to the Yungang Grottoes early the next morning, it really helped with breakfast.

Let's start with the positives: The hotel's location is excellent, very close to the Drum Tower. Famous restaurants and popular snack spots are all nearby. Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and the ancient city wall are all within walking distance. It's a great choice if you're traveling with elderly family members or children, as you can easily return to rest whenever you get tired from sightseeing. The service is also very good, from the guest rooms to the restaurant staff. The downside is that the hotel is quite old, and the facilities are a bit dated, though they do have all the essentials. During this season, the rooms can get a bit stuffy and dry. Our room had a screen door for ventilation, but not all rooms have one. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel for first-time visitors to Datong.

My trip to Datong was incredibly satisfying, and choosing this hotel, based on its excellent online reviews, certainly didn't disappoint. In terms of service, every staff member, from the lobby to the Chinese restaurant, made me feel genuinely welcome. The six young women at the front desk, covering the morning, afternoon, and night shifts, all spoke very gently. The two young men on duty in and outside the lobby from 5 PM to 7 PM were proactive in helping with luggage, displaying true professionalism. The service at the Chinese restaurant was also very thoughtful; knowing I was in a hurry to catch my high-speed train, they proactively expedited my order. When it became clear I still wouldn't make it, they even helped cancel and refund the dishes that hadn't been served yet, which was incredibly considerate. As for the food, I ordered several highly recommended dishes that also offered smaller portions for solo diners. The almond tofu, walnut pie, yellow rice cold cake, and seabuckthorn pear were all excellent and authentically flavored. The environment and facilities were also a big plus. The hotel was well-equipped, even providing body lotion and laundry detergent. Its location is superb, being very close to the Drum Tower, Bell Tower, Huayan Temple, the ancient city wall, and Southeast Gate, making getting around extremely convenient. Overall, it was an absolutely fantastic stay. I will definitely choose this hotel again on my next visit to Datong, and I highly recommend it!

The Datong Garden Grand Hotel is located inside Datong Ancient City, south of the Drum Tower. It's incredibly convenient as you can walk to all the attractions within the ancient city. It's an established star-rated hotel with comprehensive facilities, though the wardrobe looks a bit dated. Breakfast was good, and the service was excellent.
