Located inside the Datong old city, the inn itself is a historic building and has a history of its own. There are many interesting decors to look at in the property. The location is excellent and nearby some very good restaurants. It has a laundry room with 2 washers and 1 dryer which are very important in my opinion.The room was very nice, the cleanliness was very good and kept in very good condition. Although there was no rotating menu for the buffet breakfast each morning, the food is good and there's also beef/lamb offal rice noodles on request. The best parts about the hotel are the staff and service. They were extremely welcoming and friendly. I usually get disappointed by restaurant recommendations by hotel staff but all the restaurants recommended were excellent and not overly expensive. They could help you make a reservation (those restaurants get super busy on weekends and holidays) as well if you don't speak Chinese. We had to check out really early on the last day and the staff promptly packed us some eggs and bread for breakfast even though we didn't request it the night prior. I'm sure if you request it the day/night before, they'll be able to pack you something more substantial. I don't normally leave reviews but this property was worth my time.

Overall, it was decent. There's no actual door to the room, just an open common area and private lockers. The room is separated from the hallway by a curtain, so it can get a bit noisy with any sounds from the corridor. The heating in the room was extremely strong, almost suffocating, to the point where I couldn't sleep well and had to go downstairs for some fresh air in the middle of the night. Some of the shower facilities weren't great, and there was nowhere to put my toiletries.

The Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion was newly renovated just prior to our stay in January 2026. The whole building is spotless, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. The staff make an effort to understand you, and are adept at using translation apps when conversation breaks down. They have a “Xiao Du” feature , similar to the American “Alexa”, where you can ask it to turn lights off and on, as well as to open and close the curtains . The receptionist patiently helped me to learn how to use it - and frankly , it was great practice for my pronunciation of Mandarin. Finding the hotel is as challenging as any other located where vehicles are not permitted to enter. We were fortunate to have a taxi driver who helped us figure out where the hotel was, and then walked us there. Datong is not yet well known as a tourist destination. However, it is a reasonably close drive to the Hanging Temple and the Grottoes, as well as the Wooden Pagoda. There is plenty to see within walking distance. The city space around the hotel is under construction- I expect it will become a lot more popular in the next two years.

My mother and I traveled together. First, let's talk about the location. It's not far from Yongtai Gate, a 1.2km taxi ride (minimum fare), or a 20-minute walk. Getting to other gates usually costs around 10-12 yuan. We booked a double room with breakfast for 198 yuan. This room was in Building B, which seems to be the older building. It's on a lower floor, so you can only see a tiny bit of Datong Ancient City. To get a good view of the ancient city, you need to book a higher floor in Building A. Overall, the hotel is very good, and the service is exceptionally thorough and generous. On the first day, we stayed in Building B and were a bit disappointed not to see the ancient city. However, the next day, the door lock had an issue, and the front desk moved us to a higher floor in Building A – a blessing in disguise! The complimentary evening bath facilities were also great, with free sauna access and very attentive service. The breakfast was quite rich, and the staff were enthusiastic, even helping to make freshly ground coffee. On the day we checked out, the staff saw we had an elderly person with us and provided takeaway boxes for them to pack some pastries for the road, which was incredibly thoughtful. Plus, all rooms have direct drinking water, and they provide plenty of free bottled water. There's also complimentary bottled water and ginger tea available in the lobby. We would definitely choose this hotel again for our next visit.

This year, we traveled with our whole family and chose this guesthouse, and the experience far exceeded our expectations! First of all, the hygiene details were impeccable, making our whole family feel incredibly safe and secure. They not only provided high-quality toothbrushes and toothpaste, but also individually packaged dental floss, alcohol wipes, toilet seat covers, and even cartoon-themed band-aids for children. The disposable bathtub liners and children's slippers in the bathroom were a lifesaver for bath time with kids. It's so child-friendly! The receptionist gave our child an adorable mascot doll upon check-in, and the room also had a small tent, building blocks, and picture books. Our child immediately started playing, requiring absolutely no supervision from us. The room is a family suite design with a separate sleeping area for children, ensuring safety and privacy. The facilities are modern and complete, with smart home technology throughout, including electric curtains and a projector. The kitchen is equipped with a microwave, small refrigerator, and sterilizer, making it very convenient to heat milk and store snacks for the children. The service was exceptionally thoughtful. Since we stayed during the Spring Festival, the host communicated our itinerary in advance and even gave us a handwritten Chinese New Year card and a small lucky bag, adding a festive touch. The location was also very convenient, about a 10-minute walk to the restaurant. Overall, it was a near-perfect stay experience, highly recommended for all families traveling together, especially those like us who are particular about cleanliness and attention to detail. The value for money is still excellent, and we would definitely consider coming back next year!

It's on the quieter northern side of the old town, very peaceful, not far from the parking lot, and close enough to the main road for easy taxi access. The room has a simple, clean aesthetic, and what you see is truly what you get. Although Datong in Chinese New Year was quite cold, the room temperature was perfect – short sleeves were fine. During this trip to Datong, we experienced both a sandstorm and a cold front, but what left the deepest impression on me was the guesthouse's front desk staff. Our group of over ten people stayed for four days, and both ladies working shifts at the front desk were incredibly kind, polite, gentle, and patient. Since most of our group is Hui Muslim, they were constantly concerned about our dining needs and recommended restaurants for us. While breakfast was a bit of a walk from the guesthouse, the food was delicious. Every day I looked forward to the breakfast's knife-cut noodles, and the vegetarian toppings were also tasty. The lady at the restaurant was very warm and genuine, and her local accent made her sound especially friendly. My companions all agreed that choosing this guesthouse was a great success, and we'll definitely stay here again if we have the chance to visit Datong!

During my trip to Datong, I stayed at a courtyard-style guesthouse near the Drum Tower in the ancient city. The experience was truly beyond imagination and must be highly praised! This guesthouse is perfectly situated in the heart of the ancient city. From the moment I stepped into the guesthouse, I felt like I had stepped back into ancient times. The guesthouse retains the authentic, rustic charm of the courtyard, with its blue bricks, gray tiles, and carved doors and windows, exuding a sense of history. But don't let that fool you; it's fully equipped with modern amenities. The smart climate control system ensures a comfortable room temperature, and the security features provide peace of mind. Relaxing in the courtyard, I found it incredibly relaxing to sit on a stone bench under a tree, brew a cup of tea, and feel the gentle breeze. The room was warm and elegant, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The bathroom was spotless, and the toiletries were high-quality. The service at the guesthouse was impeccable. The staff were warm and attentive, from patiently answering questions at check-in to helping with luggage—every detail was thoughtful and attentive. They also thoughtfully recommended nearby restaurants and sightseeing spots, such as the traditional hot pot on Gulou East Street and the steamed buns at Fenglin Pavilion, both of which were particularly authentic. Furthermore, the B&B is within walking distance of attractions like Huayan Temple, the Fuwen Temple, and the Drum Tower, making it very convenient for exploring. The breakfast was also a pleasant surprise, with a wide variety, including local specialty knife-cut noodles, millet porridge, and a variety of exquisite dim sum. Staying here allows you to enjoy the tranquility and charm of the ancient city while conveniently experiencing the local cuisine and culture. I'll definitely choose this place again when I visit Datong next time!

The hotel is super convenient! Right outside, there's a shuttle stop for tourist attractions, and directly across the street is the Heyangmen ancient city wall. It's only four kilometers from Datong Railway Station, and there's a bus stop right by the entrance. The heating was excellent, and there was plenty of hot water. The room was clean, and the owner was very friendly and helpful.

Excellent hotel! Great location, in the heart of the historic part of the city.. Easy to get from the southern Railway station by bus number 61. Comfortable nice room, very clean. The room has a kettle, cups, and tea bags. Girl from reception was so helpful. She has given a lot recomendation for visit attractions of Datun and has helped to find a transfer to Xuankong Si Monastery.

Excellent! First, let's talk about the location. It's centrally located in Datong, very close to attractions like Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and the Nine-Dragon Wall, all within walking distance. Dining is also very convenient, with several restaurants recommended on Xiaohongshu nearby. Next, the service. As expected of an established hotel, the service is incredibly professional and enthusiastic. The doorman will help you carry your luggage to your room. I even saw them squatting down to meticulously wipe the entrance clean – truly dedicated, especially in this cold weather! Finally, I must mention the hotel's dining. The dishes come in small portions, and the service is very fast. All the recommended dishes are delicious, and the ambiance is first-class. My only regret is having such a small appetite! The breakfast buffet is also exquisite! And the complimentary bathhouse tickets were a great bonus. There are two pools with comfortable water temperatures and very clean water. The scrub masseur was also very professional. I stayed at the Garden Hotel for all 4 days of my trip to Datong, experiencing both buildings A and B, and both were great. Although building B doesn't include meals, it felt a bit newer than building A. This is the first time I've written such a detailed review, but it's genuinely excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Datong!
