The hotel is very modern, classy and clean, the beds are very comfortable with good quality linens. Nice touches like a magnifying mirror in the bathroom. The staff are pleasant and efficient. However, there are quite a few reasons why I have not given it a better rating. The room was very warm in June, despite me opening the window and when I asked for a fan, they don’t provide them! The hotel does not provide any of the little extras we have come to expect in a hotel of this class. No drinking water provided in the room. Also, only a combined shower gel/shampoo, no hair conditioner or body lotion, not even a plastic shower cap! No written instructions in the room for anything. When on holiday we like to watch TV for an hour or so before going to sleep, but they only had one British TV channel which was BBC World News. When I asked at reception about British TV channels, the response was “there is only one and I don’t know what number it is”. Even more irritating was that there were quite a few British or American dramas and films dubbed in German, we ended up watching ‘Jaws’ in German, basically because we knew what was happening as we had seen it many times before! Someone else has commented about this before on this site and management said they would look into getting more channels, but they haven’t. We stayed in two more 4 star hotels on this tour of Switzerland and they both had at least 4 UK channels, one even had BBC1, BBC2 and ITV! However the worst of all for me was the chaotic breakfast service (or non-service) our first morning. I have travelled all over the world and this was probably the worst service I have ever experienced. Long queue at the coffee machine and no menu for hot food and I had to ask what was available. I was spoken to rather rudely by a waitress and was told to go back to my table. When someone eventually came to the table, I asked for a tea and a coffee, the coffee arrived but not the tea. Eventually scrambled eggs arrived, but no toast and was told rather brusquely that I had to toast the bread myself and as we were going on a tour, I didn’t have time. The following day I had two completely different answers from two different members of staff. I asked a waiter what hot food choices there were, he replied “eggs”. I said scrambled, fried, poached? He said yes all of those but didn’t elaborate further. However, I saw someone with bacon, so I asked a waitress, she replied “eggs, bacon, sausages and pancakes! All of the hotels I have ever stayed at either have a complete buffet breakfast with no other options, or a mixture of both. In which case there is always a written menu of other options, or a knowledgable person who can explain all the options.
