Just had an excellent 3 nights staying at the Bear Inn. All the staff were really friendly. We had breakfasts and evening meals and couldn’t fault anything. Food was absolutely brilliant, freshly cooked and plentiful, the breakfast especially sets you up for the day ahead. This was the third time we’d stayed at the Bear since last October and it didn’t disappoint. We will certainly go back.

The pillows and mattresses are great quality. Good night sleep every night. Rooms are uniquely designed and homely. Chris was especially responsive to both my needs and my friends. His staff are very friendly and courteous. I had the fish and chips on our first night and was pleasantly surprised of the size and quality of the meal. Definitely worth the price. The pub is situated in the middle of local farms and has surreal views sunrise/sunset. Close enough to town if you want to go to the shops but far away enough you have the peace and quiet of the night.

We booked last minute for a Sunday dinner, the booking was a good experience. We arrived and we were disappointed from the moment we walked in, the place was dirty with awful decor. We were taken to our seat which was in a back room which the other tables had large groups on, who were loud . The room was cold the fire was not lit and there was no radiator 🥶 we asked to move and they said yes but still delivered our lunch then said we could move, we had to walk through with our lunch in hand!!! Yes the table was better. The lunch was cold and swimming in gravy. The cauliflower chesse was then delivered which was like bubbling and lava yet under cooked. The service was slow, with a couldn’t care, less attitude. an experience and I just wouldn’t recommend, we certainly won’t be returning.

Stayed here recently on a short family break, visiting relatives in the area. After a slight technical hitch, things just got better. Monday night is quiz night, so that brings a few local characters in. We stayed in one of the self-contained cottages allocated to guests with pets. With four of us & a dog, it was a bit tight for space with limited comfortable seating. We were on the B&B rate, so we only had the occasional hot drink from the tea & coffee provided. There is a hob & fridge should you want to do your own cooking. We booked a table on Monday night (while the quiz was on), which was excellent. Food was piping hot & fresh as the flowers in the garden, a great pub to eat in. Breakfast each morning was 1st class, with everything from full english to eggs benedict freshly cooked & again piping hot. The staff are brilliant, and nothing was a bother to them, going out there way to accommodate us on several occassions. The views are spectacular from the location, and the cottages & beer garden benefit from this. No hesitation in recommending the Bear Inn for a stay, its cuisine, wonderful views, or just enjoy a drink in an inn full of history and charachter. No question, we will be back next time we're in the area.

The Bear is a lovely old pub with lots of different rooms and seating areas. We were in the little room with all the saddlery and tack on the walls. The Sunday lunch menu is quite short - you have a choice of pork, beef or chicken and a vegetarian option. I had the pork with a piece of super crunchy crackling, and my other half had the veggie which was a kind of savoury stuffing bake (very tasty). Both came with roast root veg, brocolli, roasties and mash, an enormous and fluffy Yorkie and a bowl of amazing cauliflower cheese. Let's just say we didn't want a pudding! Absolutely delicious, and will definitely visit again soon.

great new years eve, great band, decent food, excellent hospitality. thank you. What can you get for £10? The band were 2 lads who also did a disco .They were excellent all night. The food was good although the quiche was a little strange. A glass of fizz at midnight. What more do you want

We went to The Bear on Friday for lunch and loved every moment. It oozes rustic charm, serves delicious hesrty food and good beer, and is welcoming to both children and dogs. I had the nut roast (on a Friday) and it was the best 'Sunday roast' I've had in years - full of colour, flavour and super filling. We will definitely be back.

We'd not been before, we were just passing through following a visit to the Peak District but understand it's under new management. Food was excellent and the staff were friendly and attentive. I got the steak baguette with salad and chips with a pint
