Hotels near Castello di Desenzano in Desenzano del Garda

This 3-4 star hotel is exactly as described and reviewed. So don’t expect a 5 star luxury palace. But if you want a good hotel in a quiet position, a 10-15min walk to the centre of Desenzano, then this fits the bill. We arrived earlier than regular check in but were met with friendly reception staff. I had emailed Hotel Oliveto knowing this and as promised could leave bags at reception and use the pool and pool bar till our room was ready. I forgot to pack a towel in hand luggage so rented pool towels (€3 per towel for the entire stay - not unreasonable) The pool is 25x10m, clean, not overly chlorinated and a lovely 28 degrees. It has spa corners to relax in and plentiful loungers and umbrellas. The family friendly hotel had lots of kids but the pool was never overly crowded, nor was the space around it. There’s no view of the lake but it’s reasonably private and I think it’s fine. The pool bar is open from midday till 7 and serves simple snack food (sandwiches, toasties, chips etc along with a reasonable range of drinks) A separate shaded seating area means you can eat away from the pool. When we got into the room, it was one of the older styles (as expected). The new refurbished ones look on the photos to be of a much more modern and luxury type but the standard double we had was as per the photos. Given I wasn’t planning to do much in the room other than sleep, wake up and shower, it was fine. The bathroom is dated but there’s plenty of hot water, a reasonable shower, very good AC and despite the previous reviews I found the WiFi to be pretty good. The breakfast was varied and as expected at a 4 star hotel. Plenty of choice with juice, coffees and teas, cereals, sweet pastries and cakes, continental meats and cheeses, yoghurts, fresh fruits and limited cooked breakfast items. We stayed when the hotel was full and although the dining area was full, we never had to wait for a table. Serving up till 10am meant we could lie in too. The other hotel facilities we used was the gym. A reasonable place with 2 running machines, a static cycle, rowing machine, a multi-weights machine, bench, free weights, kettles, Swiss balls and mat. Well air conditioned, you needed to book (COVID restrictions) but we were always able to get a slot we wanted. There was an indoor pool, and spa circuit but it was so nice and hot outside, we never tried them. The other reviews seem to be positive about them. We never had dinner at the hotel either. Desenzano del Garda is a town at the lower West corner of Lake Garda. It has some upmarket shops but in general is a laid back place with lots of restaurants. Don’t expect trendy fashionista bars or nightclubs. It’s clearly fueled by tourism but again doesn’t feel overly crowded or intimidating. Just a nice compact place. It’s a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel to the town centre which was never a problem. The town has a rocky beach with lounger/shade hire, pedalos and beachside restaurants. This is an excellent hotel, ideally located, with very welcoming, professional staff including Mikka and Francesca who always assisted the buffet breakfast with a smile. Indeed the breakfast is excellent with a large variety of options to suit varied tastes and diets. I had a room with a beautiful view of the lake. Room was light and spotlessly clean. Highly recommend this hotel and hope to return one day.

Great hotel and lovely atmosphere. All it was very good also the food. My children really enjoyed tge animation after dinner time. We had a departure quite early in the morning and they prepared for us 2 big breakfast. Wonderful service. I'll come back for sure.

We weren’t bothered that the hotel was described as dated, having read other reviews, as often that has its own charm in Italian hotels. Unfortunately this hotel isn’t run by Italians so that’s where the charm vanishes. Run by some very rude and arrogant men it is strange and inhospitable. We definitely felt uncomfortable as two women friends. The breakfast buffet was poor with limited choice and they have a strange practice of leaving all the dirty crockery etc until the very end of the service period. So you sit surrounded by dirty plates on all the tables.

Esperienza negativa..struttura potenzialmente di rilievo purtroppo in stato di abbandono. Nessun lavoro di restauro è stato eseguito, per cui la struttura si presenta nello stato originale con le stesse finiture e arredi in stato di degrado. Ciò rende la struttura non consona al livello attribuitole. Abbiamo riservato 3 camere direttamente dal sito per 2 notti al prezzo di 3 junior suite. purtroppo solo per una delle tre camere le caratteristiche riportate sup sito sono state rispettate. La metratura e le caratteristiche delle altre rispecchiavano un livello più basso in linea con le caratteristiche della “deluxe”: non avevano la doccia (ma vasca da bagno) ne tantomeno ambiente suite con divanetti /tavolo e poltroncina, i metri totali erano 24/25 e non 30/35 come da indicazioni del sito. In una delle camere non è stato possibile chiudere le finestre in quanto i serramenti erano danneggiati, in un’altra non funzionava il phon nel bagno. Quanto alla finestra un manutentore ha provato a far qualcosa ma senza risultato alcuno, se non assecondare la nostra di soluzione mettere un cucchiaino nell’incasso del serramento per mantenere ferme le ante 😂😂 fatte presenti queste incongruenze alla reception le risposte sono state vane, le finestre non si possono riparare perché la sovrintendenza beni culturali non ce lo consente 😅 (parole del direttore), del phon non ci è stato detto, la doccia e i metri sono caratteristiche indicative ma poi le camere non sono tutte uguali, quella sul sito è a titolo d’esempio, noi a catalogo le Vostre le abbiam classificate come “junior suite”, sempre parole del direttore. La Colazione molto risicata e poca scelta, il personale invita la clientela a fare cappuccino e caffè direttamente da un distributore automatico, chiedendola al tavolo la portano ma sembra ti facciano un favore, manca la spremuta..per carità saranno indicazioni sempre della direzione nulla da dire al personale di sala..insomma non un 4 stelle, ma un 3 stelle nella media..Non si fa una questione di prezzo ma di comfort che viene sponsorizzato in maniera ingannevole e poi al riscontro effettivo si rileva discomfort al quale il personale giustamente non riesce a dare motivazione. A quel prezzo c’è di meglio in zona!

We booked for one night only during our trip around Italy and we were pleasantly surprised by the location. When we arrived, we noticed that a wedding was going on and upon check in we asked about the wedding. The person at the front deck gave a warm welcome and informed that the wedding would finish latest at Midnight and we were worried that the music would disturb us. The Manager at the reception, seen our worry, informed us that he would upgrade our room to an upper category and on the opposite side of the wedding so we would not be disturbed, allowing us for a later check out the day after as well, which we could not take advantage of, unfortunately. It was a very nice and caring touch which we appreciated. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. We slept very good and in the morning we had a delicious breakfast on the terrace with a stunning view on the courtyard. The staff was very kind and caring, and too bad that we could stay only for one night, but we will for sure be back if we go in the area.

We visited Villa Rosa initially for one night, before exploring the rest of Lake Garda. We liked it so much that we returned to our same room for the last night of our trip. Rooms are very clean and as we had a junior suite this also had great views of the lake. Reception staff are very friendly and helped make out visit even more special. Free WiFi throughout the hotel, limited free parking (lots of paid parking also available). The breakfast is something else. Lots a lots of choice, all of the highest quality. This can be takes in their lovely dining room with views over the lake.Villa Rosa is perfectly situated opposite a popular beach and is within easy walking to Dezenzano main square and ferries.

The fabric of the hotel is very good. Clean and fresh and so it should be as I believe it has recently been refurbished. If you want a hotel where there is daytime/night time entertainment this is not for you. It is generally a quiet relaxing hotel. Children are allowed but they will have to provide their own entertainment. There are three pools, one in the spa, one adults only and one that children can use. The pool bar was not in operation while we were there. The hotel is a 50 min walk from the town of Lazise on reasonable paths that are shared with cyclists. But you take your life in your own hands as the cyclists and scooter riders just fly past with no warning. A taxi into town costs 15-20 euro. There is no shuttle bus at the hotel even though it indicates there is on the trip advisor hotel listing. And to the reviewer who says it is a 5 min walk to the lake..you are wrong. I would say it is at least 15 mins and that includes a shortcut through a vineyard and a campsite. The rooms are a decent size. Storage for clothes could be improved with more drawer/shelf space. There is a fridge (no mini bar) which on arrival has two bottles of water in. It seems pot luck as to whether the water is replenished. A good size TV but maybe only 3 English channels (news). The bedside lamps are quite dim...not enough light to read by. All rooms have a balcony or terrace for ground floor. There was no milk to make hot drinks. We purchased some from the local supermarket. Breakfast is more or less typical for a holiday hotel. Fresh fruit..well melon and pineapple, yogurts. Continental style with meats and cheeses plus a pastry section. Don't expect a full English here.... there is bacon, fried egg and sausage but that is all. The food was a decent quality. There is a gripe I do have in that when the bread ran out we were tod it was finished and no more would be coming out.....this wasn't at the end of the breakfast sitting but with still 45 mins to go. NOT ACCEPTABLE. One thing that we observed was a family who loaded up breakfast food of all description including fresh fruit, as well as taking water bottles from the display and then blatantly took it back to their rooms. They took plates piled high and filled bags. It wasn't as if they were having breakfast in their rooms as they were eating breakfast in the dining room. They were clearly taking food to eat later in the day! The staff knew but did nothing. Maybe that is why they ran out of bread. We only dined in the evening twice. The menu is not extensive .....in fact there were only two choices of main meal. Other course were labelled starter, first course, second course, so maybe you are supposed to have one of each course because the size of the main dish is not huge. If you have a decent appetite you will need more than one course. The main problem with this hotel is the lack of staff. There was not enough waiting staff at all so tables were delayed in getting cleared and more importantly food

Avevo letto delle recensioni molto interessanti. Ottima colazione abbondante, ristorante, belle stanze, moderno... Scelto per una tappa obbligata in zona e perchè sarebbe un 4 stelle. La prima impressione è spettacolare. Molto bella la hall, moderna, due ascensori, diversi piani, tranquillo, parcheggio davanti. Camera all'ultimo piano. Media grandezza. Cerchiamo le pantofole elencate nella lista delle forniture e non esistono. Meno male che ne porto sempre per precauzione. L'armadio o la cabina armadio non esiste. C'è uno stand appendiabiti con 6 grucce. Tradotto, non abbiamo disfatto le valigie. C'è solo un cassetto con gli asciugamani per il secondo ospite. Volevo aprire una finestra (o la porta-finestra che da su una terrazza) e nessuna delle due si apre. Niente ricambio di aria. Abbiamo un pò freddo e dopo svariati tentativi di aumentare il termostato vado a chiedere. Era la stessa procedura che ho fatto più volte. Si poteva abbassare, ma non alzare. Ritornava sempre a quella preimpostata. Un piumino leggero sul letto, niente coperte o altro per coprirci di notte avessimo avuto freddo. Il letto abbastanza comodo, cuscini alti. Al mattino, entrambi con mal di schiena. Il frigobar aveva la grande varietà di due bottigliette di acqua. La tv a schermo piatto funziona, però dovevamo mettere una chiavetta che avevamo portato e non le legge. Il bagno, dove era scritto sulla prenotazione, prodotti da bagno, ha un sapone liquido per viso e mani, uno nella doccia ( aperta a metà), e tre cotton fiock con cotone e una limetta di cartoncino. Lasciamo perdere la colazione abbondante. Tre croissant ( vuoto. marmellata di albicocche, cioccolato), tre torte banalissime di pan di spagna- un giorno una crostata-, due tipi di fette biscottate, 4 tipi di marmellatine confezionate, cesto di frutta, due o tre tipi di frutta tagliata, qualche yogurt, cereali, pane, uova strapazzate, bacon, melanzane grigliate, prosciutto, formaggio a fette, verdura bollita. Le bevande a macchinetta con buona scelta di bustine di tè. Premetto che ho trovato degli hotel a 3 stelle con il triplo di prodotti sia dolci che salati. Noi, da buoni italiani, ci aspettiamo torte, muffin, pancakes, svariate brioches o biscotti. Le colazioni pantagrueliche all'estero qui se le sognano. Il ristorante lo davano aperto solo in settimana. A prescindere dal personale in genere molto gentile, la mio opinione è un 'mai più'. Le recensioni lette su booking, o altri siti, non sono più attendibili, dopo questo ulteriore fallimento in quelle zone.
