The Hotel du Chateau in Dinan is well situated. The main entrance is situated on the corner of a very busy road and you will soon learn that access is easier and safer via the car park at the rear. Reserved parking is 10 Euros per day, but well worth the money. Public parking and more so hotel parking in France are often an obstacle courses, however, parking at this hotel is reasonably accessible and well laid out. The hotel is in good condition and seemed to have been recently refurbished. Staff were friendly and multi-tasked. We had a room at the rear of the hotel on the first floor with a small private courtyard. The room was small, reasonably furnished but dimly lit. Apparently, the room is one of only two which have bathrooms. This would have been good, if the bath functioned correctly. At the end of my first bath I could not open the plug to drain the bath. Eventually, with the aid of a penknife I levered it open. I reported the fault to reception “I thought it had been repaired, it will be repaired today.” was the response. When we returned it had not been repaired. I reported it again, but again it was not repaired. Reception said “To be honest it will not be repaired until next Tuesday i.e. 5 days away. There was a reasonable range of food at breakfast. The only hot offering was a boiled egg, that is if the egg boiler worked. After 7 minutes the eggs were still raw. Back to reception where I was greeted with a look that said “The Englishman cannot boil an egg.” The public areas are very small and there is no restaurant. During our stay we ate at Restaurant Longueville and two other places – see review. You will need to read all the reviews to decide whether this hotel is for you.

This is the second time we have stayed here. It is a lovely family hotel. Nicely appointed very clean with the most helpful, friendly staff you could possibly need. Our French was pretty bad and it was no problem at all which made us feel welcome and comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, typically French, and service was great. We were very happy to stay here and will do so again. The location is also brilliant with great restaurants nearby. Recommend this hotel to couples and families who want a comfortable stay.

Stayed here as part of a ship and stay package from Brittany Ferries. The location can't be beat. Just at the entrance to the walled city and within easy walking distance to many attractions and the fort in the old town. The receptionist gave us a warm welcome and even without us speaking a word of French she was very forthcoming and friendly. Her suggestions for places to eat were right on mark and we had one of the best dinners in France. There's a Carrefour close by for snacks and drinks and the large roundabout in front of the hotel was beautifully lit up for the holidays during our stay. The room is very basic. Just beds and some plastic stools for side tables. I wish there was a kettle in the room as we had to go down to the reception which had a hotpot with water if we needed some coffee or tea. However the room was very clean and spacious. The bathroom seemed larger than the room! The breakfast spread was excellent with choice teas, jams and jellies. We parked overnight in the adjacent underground car park and paid about €9 for about 14 hours of parking. The entrance to the parking was easily locatable as we approached the hotel.

It’s the second time we stayed here and we loved, we will go back again for sure. It’s not far from the centre, nice restaurant near by , Supermarket and shops not far ether , we done it as a self catering and as the supermarket was nearby was easy for breakfast and the occasional dinner.

When I first saw the location I thought I made a mistake as the B&B is on fairly steep street, about 100 meters walk from the corner (I believe a sign says permit req'd for cars). However, I later realized that it's perfectly located for access to both the old town center and the old port on the river. In any case you only have to lug your suitcases once and during the process you will get a good look at what could be literally the cutest street in the world (and it's all original medieval). As far as the room and B&B, it's rustic but rooms are very large as is the bathroom which is rare in Europe. Waking up in the morning you open the window and look out on a real medieval village. The common eating area is charming with lots of vintage decorations and several tables. The included breakfast is very good and the jam is the best I have ever had. We spent almost 3 weeks in France and stayed in 10 towns but Dinan is the one that really made an impression.

Ok. First off - this is a BUDGET hotel in a small town. Keep expectations reasonable. Got a mid week sale rate of 40€!! Superb bargain. Located right by train station and walking distace to old town - about 10 min. Spotless laundromat a block away. A budget traveller's dream! Room was spacious with private bath (shower only). Very good wifi and easy to connect. Decor was dated (think 1970s) but very clean and quiet. Comfortable bed. Front desk didn't speak much English but was helpful and tried hard. Don't be put off by the checkin/bar/poolroom area when you enter. The hotel is at back and very quiet. Continental breakfast is extra and in a lovely room. This hotel was the best bargain we found on our 2 week tour of northern Fance. Just keep expectations reasonable- it's not the Ritz and doesn't pretend to be.
