Absolutely famtastic hotel.. Beautiful decor throughout, rooms was magnificent, lovely quiet street. Parking was fine. Quiet location but close to bars, restaurants. George an amazing host offering a delicious breakfast .. Will definitely return!!

We rang to book for brunch, as the place looked stunning so we were wanting to try it out. The food was incredible, we had smashed avocado and the duck waffle. Service was very friendly, we were served by a lovely man who let us take a tour of the rooms alongside another lovely woman who worked there. The rooms were by far the best we’ve ever seen, and we’ve been to many hotels across the world. We will definitely be booking to stay, sadly we cannot live here.

40 Winks is the most amazing place to stay in Durham. The staff are brilliant, so friendly and helpful. Our room, the Raby Room, was just wonderful with the perfect view of Britain's best cathedral. The breakfast was stunning and a great way to start the day. Next time we stay in Durham we won't be staying anywhere else.

A stunning anniversary night away. Beautiful decor, stunning rooms and great service. Special thanks to Stuart, for whom nothing was too much trouble. Quiet, romantic, restful and with a stunning breakfast to boot. We'll certainly retain.

Delightful hotel with a great view. It has been tastefully and creatively renovated - we were charmed by the carefully curated decor. Friendly and helpful staff. Offers a great selection at breakfast. The room was compact but had all we needed including Molton Brown bath products. Would definitely come again

Really nice boutique hotel. All freshly decorated and tastefully. Staff were all friendly and the breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty. Location was good for the town and attractions- albeit a steep climb back after food and drinks! Thank you.

Super guest house, beautiful room, v comfy bed and pillows. great location 5 mins walk to town and fab breakfast that passed the black pudding test. Other v good breakfast options too. v quiet with glimpses of the cathedral through the trees. Really great stay,

An amazing two night stay from start to finish. The hotel is excellent. Through out the hotel the decor is to a high standard. It is outstandingly clean, smells delightful and the rooms are just as nice. The staff are friendly and welcoming. This was our first visit and it won’t be our last. We were made to feel so welcome and our stay was relaxing.

An excellent stay at 40 winks, very friendly staff. Hotel is on a thin one way road with paid parking via PaybyPhone app outside. A short walk down the hill into the town centre and cathedral. Rooms were very good, large tv ( good for the Olympics!) and all other mod cons, very clean and tidy. Excellent breakfast, lots of choice, all in all a great stay, we will be back.
