Needed a room to stay for graduation, everywhere was booked or ridiculously expensive, so booked here for £70 per night. We were next to a very loud room the first night, and walls are thin (so would recommend ear plugs), but on the second night there was no noise and it was great. We had good phone reception and the breakfast was simple - toast and pastries in packaging. Overall we were thankful to have somewhere to stay on a busy weekend in Durham and it’s in a good location.

If you like "compact", 60's decor, literally no amenities (not even wifi - and there is no mobile reception either), with an entrance like a crime scene (maybe one of those out of a scandi noir about people trafficking), this is the place for you! Sprinkle in a bit of mould, being next to a road so busy from 5am it's impossible to sleep, and, to cap it rooms above a closed pub restaurant, with no staff & poor communication about key codes, this really is a model on how not to impress guests. Literally none of this was mentioned, funny that. Cheap? At £50 yes. Worth it? No, find somewhere else.

We have stayed at many hotels in Durham , this was far worse, not good value . Advertise bed and breakfast which was continental. Don’t wast your money . Stay at the Avenue or honest lawyer far better value for money and hot breakfast. Very disappointed .

Never again. Stayed in room 5. The sofabed was for some reason also made up in our room so we had to convert it back in order to have somewhere to sit. The main bed was the awful - the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in. Every spring could be felt and they twanged as I moved. At 2am, crying in frustration after a long day, I gave up and slept on the mattress topper (from the sofa bed) on the floor which was more comfortable. Only to be woken by music from the bar thumping from below at 7am. The shower room smelled horrible - bad drains. The floor was uneven under the lino and the toilet rocked when you sat on it. If I could give this place no stars I would. Do not give these people your money.

Room was directly over the bar and faced a busy road. Bed was extremely uncomfortable. By 3am nether of us had slept a wink and decided to to go and sleep in the car. Not a pleasant experience. Cheap and cheerful might be acceptable, this was just cheap and unpleasant. Certainly a place to avoid.

The staff made this hotel. They were welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. The rooms were in need of updating, but it felt that this was ongoing and will only get better. The main beds were comfortable, although the extra bed would probably be ok for a child, it was not very comfortable for an adult. The rooms were warm and clean. We ate in the restaurant, the food was delicious and plentiful and the service was great. Breakfast was continental, but there was plenty of choice and you could have as much as you wanted. The location is great to get into Durham, although the inn is on a fairly busy road, so the rooms at the front had some road noise. Parking was easy on the quiet road behind the inn. All in all, we had a lovely stay here.
