Great value compared to other options in the area. Brilliant location, 15 minutes walk from the castle and just beside Dean Village. Double private room was very nice and started bathrooms were very clean

Have you ever spent the night in an old church? Here is the place. Somehow the old church vibe is super cozy. The location is central and Dean Village is just a 5-min walk. The staff (Ciprian) was very nice. Overall the room lived up to my expectations. Highly recommended!

The hotel and staff are great. It's a 10-minute walk from shops and restaurants. The room was secure, allowing us to leave our belongings without concern. The only downside was the bathroom; we wanted a private one accessible in the evening without going outside, but our room's bathroom was outside and shared with others.

A well-equipped hostel located close to the city center. The most important sights can be reached on foot within 40 minutes. If you don't have high expectations and like to cook for yourself, the Belford Hostel is a cheap alternative to a hotel.

This is a very interesting hotel in a converted church, the staff are very nice, friendly and attentive. Because it is a historical building, there is no way to remodel it. The rooms are still relatively large. There are collective kitchens, movie rooms, and few single rooms, so it is more convenient to wash in the public bathroom. It's still fun to feel the unique atmosphere.

Great stay, great service, great facilities. Stayed in a Twin Room (Private room) and had great facilities. Really recommend staying here. Definitely returning back soon. Thank you Belford!

The staff were friendly, but the rooms were cramped and smelt of sweat. The beds were less than half a metre apart, and there was literally no floor space to leave large bags. As the hostel is inside a converted church, there is no outside ventilation. The showers were not cleaned as frequently as they should have been, given the limited number. The kitchen, on the other hand, was quite clean, and there is a nice common dining area. The best part was a regular supply of free bread and sometimes pastries, which I presume was food surplus from a local bakery. The location isn't particularly great either. It looks close to the city centre on a map, but the tourist hotspots are a good half an hour walk away (or equal time by public transport). Also be warned that they will charge you £5 to leave your luggage after checkout.

It’s just a great place with lovely people and great accommodations. The list can’t be exhaustive but the showers are warm with nice pressure, the kitchen is top notch, the beds are comfortable, and they have very nice communal spaces. Best hostel we stayed at in Scotland, 11/10

I strongly advise against booking this hotel if you value basic customer service and fair treatment. I attempted to make a reservation through Agoda, and the app initially rejected it. Since the booking didn’t go through, I tried again using a different card, and this time it was successful. However, to my surprise, both reservations had actually been processed, leaving me with two bookings instead of one. I have now spent 96 hours trying to resolve this issue, sending emails and making phone calls to both Agoda and the hotel. Neither has offered a solution, and worse yet, Belfors Hostel has refused to allow Agoda to process a refund, despite the fact that the duplicate reservation was due to a system error. A hotel that caters to international travelers should, at the very least, have decent customer service and a willingness to help guests when issues arise. Instead, this place has demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, zero accountability, and no respect for tourists. If they are this unhelpful before you even arrive, I can only imagine the kind of service you’ll get during your stay. There are plenty of other hotels that will treat you with respect and assist you if any problems occur. This is not one of them. Avoid it.

We stayed at Belford Hostel in a private room (No. 7), and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The room was not clearly cleaned—there were leftovers from past guests behind the nightstand, which was pretty off-putting. The cleanliness overall was poor, with noticeable dust and a general lack of attention to detail. To make matters worse, the hostel's garbage deposit was right outside our door, which added to the unpleasant atmosphere. The walls in the room were incredibly thin, and we could hear every noise from the hallway and other rooms, making it difficult to sleep peacefully. Additionally, at check-in, they pushed (and almost insisted) that we pay for a towel, even though there were towels already provided in the room. This felt unnecessary and a bit of a scam. Overall, we wouldn’t recommend this hostel unless they address these issues with cleanliness, noise levels, and customer service.

I have to say do ignore the neggy reviews. I really enjoyed my stay at this hostel and all the staff are super friendly. Please be kind and respectful to this lot - they’re such good bunch! And the hostel has a really nice chilled atmosphere, best hostel stay I’ve had so far and I’ve stayed in at least four in Edinburgh alone just sayin’. ~ Rose

Decent for a hostel. We had a private room, clean and the bathroom and toilet facilities seemed to be regularly cleaned etc. One of the better hostels I've ever been in. We were able to easily walk to many attractions and all over the city from here, so that was great too!

Two things need to be remembered - its a very old building, and its a budget hostel. Knowing that, I was pleasantly surprised at my stay. Private room with an old-fashioned key made the history of the place that little bit more real. The staff where friendly and helpful. The only downside is that it is a little out of the way from most tourist attractions - 2-3km walk to most attractions.
