A must stay hotel in Edinburgh! The room is beautiful, and the photos are particularly impressive! Lots of antique-feeling velvet upholstery, but clean. The room is in the building opposite the front desk, and the only way to get to the room is through stairs. However, when checking in, the staff helped deliver the luggage to the room and gave welcome chocolates. We chose to eat breakfast in the room. The variety was relatively simple. The fruits were not sweet and not particularly fresh. It might be better to eat in the restaurant. All in all, I am very satisfied, the price is higher but worth the money! recommend!

Magnificent. I felt like royalty. Stayed in the Guardsman Suite which is across from the Witchery Restaurant. Entrance is next to the store through a little gated alley. Everything is beautifully designed and lit. The champagne and chocolate every day was a treat. I swear elves must’ve managed our room because i never saw anyone but whenever we returned to the room, the shades were appropriately up or down, our bed tidied, water replenished… On the last day we had to leave early and they offered to supply a hamper of breakfast delivered to our room at 5:30am-nice. Breakfast a la carte was wonderful. The avocado toast was the best Ive had and breakfast by tall lit tapers was a delight. Service was perfect. The heated tiles and towel warmer in the bathroom were a nice touch. The towels were delicious, as you’d expect. The soaking tub was a delight for me as it was the deepest Ive ever experienced and I love soaking. Water temp was fine. My husband had difficulty with the shower aspect as getting in and out was really tough and there was no place to set your essentials (eg phone, facial wash, etc) so that was tricky. Anyone with mobility issues will find this suite difficult as the tub and walking up the many stories of narrow windy stairs are a challenge. My only suggestion is related to the unpleasant odor. Its noticeable as soon as you arrive, though you adjust. I realize it is an ancient building but this could easily be managed with some lovely scented potpourri. The worst emanated from the toilet which constantly smelled unpleasant. It made it difficult to perfectly enjoy soaking . Otherwise-perfect!

Very convenient location for many tourist spots in Edinburgh. Exclusive with only a few suites, secure entrance. Each suite is uniquely decorated with original artwork, tapestries, and wood floors. The bedroom of The Armory suite was quite, tucked between rooftops. The restaurant for breakfast was quite and delicious food. All the staff we encountered was polite, professional, knowledgeable and helpful. It was a bonus having our luggage brought up and down the original stone spiral staircase. It is pricy to stay here, but I think it is worth it for the space and location you get, the service you get, and the historic aspect.

We had a wonderful stay in the Rectory suite. There were added complimentary items such as fruit, water, truffles, crisps,Nespresso machine with pods, lots of expensive toiletries and because we booked direct a bottle of champagne. The turn down service was a lovely touch and much appreciated as there were so many cushions and blankets on the bed and as the suite is so big lots of blinds to close! A large silver drinks bowl that our water and champagne were in on arrival had been topped up with fresh ice too. We did not book a table for dinner as I am vegetarian and there was only one option of carrots so that was disappointing. We decided to have our breakfast in the restaurant and the gentleman who served us was charming and very attentive. Again it would have been nice for a vegetarian option of a full Scottish breakfast but I had scrambled eggs which were amazing. I would echo other comments regarding the lighting, I love soft lighting but it was a little too dark to see the menu or fully appreciate the room. The one thing I would say is there were lots of tourists that kept getting in the way of the entrance to the hotel. There is a narrow passage and a lot of tourists seemed to think it was an attraction so they kept wandering down blocking the doorway. Maybe some clear signage or gate at the front of the passage way could help. We would definitely recommend going there and hope to visit again. Thank you to all the staff.

To dark cannot read menu. Food came steak was mediocre cold mash potato which I returned. My wife’s fillet steak had a huge lump gristle in it. Over expensive for quality you would expect

The room is everything you think it’s going to be from the photos and more. The breakfast hamper delivery and set up is exquisite. Theservice is beyond anything I’ve received in other places. Every single person is so kind and accommodating. The ambience is the reason we all book this place and it did NOT disappoint! We didn’t end up eating in the restaurant because we don’t really eat a lot of meat and seafood and there were a few, but not many other options but the menu looks amazing if you do!

Dinner in The Secret Garden and then a night in the Turret Suite for a birthday treat. It was a wonderful experience throughout, from the friendly and informative driver who picked us up at Edinburgh Airport to a magnificent continental breakfast the following morning. (I'm sure the breakfast buffet in the restaurant would have been great but we wanted to make the most of our Suite and chose to have the continental brought up to us.) The dinner was fabulous, with plenty of choice for non-meat eaters, and the Turret Suite was amazing - packed full of atmosphere from its beautiful antique furniture and fittings, and a bathroom with both a lovely free-standing bathtub and a huge walk-in double shower. The bustle outside didn't intrude into the very quiet Suite and there was a real buzz to be had from knowing we were so close to the Castle itself. The staff could not be faulted: all friendly, welcoming and very efficient from start to finish. Not cheap, but worth every penny for such a marvellous experience.

Gorgeous setting, perfect location, service and food wonderful, details unmatched for an castle feel. Mist memorable for mostly good memories. One small detail overlooked when booking the Heriot suite There is NO shower ! My 6 ft tall husband was a very good sport …but it is truly not realistic for a hotel of this caliber. This room should be in a lower price range in my opinion compared to the other rooms with this proper amenity. We never thought to look for “a shower” while booking ;) a room.
