InterContinental Hotels - Edinburgh the George, an IHG Hotel

New Town Edinburgh|0.51km from city center
This was our second time at this hotel and we stayed for almost a week. You can't beat the location on George Street, right downtown, close to shops and restaurants. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms and bathrooms are very nice. The king bed had a good mattress and pillows. There is a safe. They seem to have made upgrades since our last pre-covid stay, including air-conditioning in (all?) rooms. As you would expect in a big city, the rooms are quite small and the hotel is not exactly quiet; also depending on where your room faces. We were right by the elevator, which I generally don't like. I wonder if it's because we booked through our credit card and not direct. It seems there is sometimes a ”penalty'. The rooms are supplied daily with water, delicious cookies and snacks. You can make individual cups of drip coffee in a filter, which is much better than instant coffee but not as good as a Nespresso, IMHO. We had breakfast included and the Printing Press is just wonderful, for breakfast, any meal and later evening cocktails and whiskey. The Burr & Co is a coffee shop, also right next door, with tables outside. Love that place. The hotel has great service. We lost a suitcase and got daily support in checking on the status and changing the address on the delivery. There seemed to be a shortage on hair conditioner and we didn't have a sign for do-not-disturb the first day and got woken at 8 AM, but that didn't spoil our enjoyment of the hotel stay. We expect to be back.

I had chosen this hotel as it was priced somewhat competitively and with its close proximity to the centre, we decided to take a cosy room with a window. Cosy room with a window is an understatement. Thankfully, as expected, we didn't spend too long in the room as we were out exploring what Edinburgh had to offer but the room was super cramped and made for an uncomfortable stay. The bed is pushed against the wall with a window. You cannot open said window if you're using the bed as it comes out onto one half of the bed. Me and my partner found the mattress to be rather uncomfortable, I had a particular gripe with the pillows as even with two, my head sunk to the mattress and provided zero support. 3 pretty poor night's sleeps, was very much looking forward to getting into my own! There is nowhere else to sit in the room other than the bed. There is no tea or coffee facilities. You can put luggage under the bed however there is nowhere to store the contents, so you're constantly in and out of your bags which take up valuable room space anyway. If you weren't close to your partner, you really will be after staying here. The bathroom is nice, shower is really good however any bathroom habits is echoed into the living area with very little privacy, it got funny by the 2nd day and we just embraced it. We driven to Edinburgh so we parked our car about 15 mins away from the hotel, no problem, £30 for 3 days. The hotel is about a 15-20min casual walk to the main attractions which wasn't totally ideal but not a problem really, I just know we could have got closer for cheaper. We didn't try breakfast so can't pass judgement on that as there were plenty of cafes on the lead up to the centre and the centre itself. The hotel itself is really well decorated and modern. I had zero complaints regarding the cleanliness, it was really good! Staff were super attentive and helpful too, we asked for two extra pillows and were provided there and then, no issues. Check in/check out was really quick and straight forward. Wouldn't return due to uncomfortable bed, super cramped room and poor value for money. Still had a great time in Edinburgh though!

Novotel Edinburgh Park

Edinburgh Airport Area Edinburgh|8.2km from city center
After staying in a number of hotels in Edinburgh, Novotel Edinburgh Park is definitely of highest quality in this price range. The location is perfect if you are working outside of the city but want to still experience the city centre at night. Edinburgh Park train station and tram stop are very close to the hotel with frequent services to neighbouring towns and Waverley station (city centre). The train is quickest to Waverley at only 9 mins and costs as little as £2.70 at super off peak times for a return ticket. The hotel rooms are spacious and clean. There are hundreds of channels on the 55” TVs. The beds are comfy and there is a temperature regulator fan (not air conditioning). The bathrooms are clean and well furnished. Executive rooms get some more toiletries than standard rooms. Some rooms have baths and some have stand-in showers. (Maybe you can note your preference when booking) Breakfast is definitely worth paying for. There’s a huge selection of food options, something for everyone. Hot food and continental style breakfast is offered and is a buffet style. The restaurant is large but can be very busy in the evenings. Car parking is offered at a member rate (Accor ALL account holders) of £6 per day. I would rate the hotel very highly, after staying here a number of times over the past few months and with more bookings in the not so distant future. I look forward to returning!

one night stopover prior to attending a medical procedure at nearby Royal infirmary. On the positive side the price was reasonable by edinburgh standards, the bed was Icomfortable, the quality of the bedwear was good and the standard of cleanliness in the shower was admirable. All just as expected. However in over fifty years of travel for work and pleasure in locations across Europe from Ukraine to the Faroe islands including Brussels Copenhagen Valetta and Prague, in the UK from Northern Scotland to the Channel Islands, in the USA for Bird In Hand Pennsylvania through Richmond Virginia and Nashville Tennessee via Washington Dc to North Carolina, in a variety of accommodation including bed and breakfast of various types and hotels of various grades I regret to say I have never had a more disturbed night's sleep. Now if I stay in an 18-24 in Ibeza in high season , or in a weekend of stag party/hen party jollity then I know what to expect but Edinburgh on a weekday in March? I am also used to residents arriving late an banging doors. Nor am I a grumpy old git. I remember what it is like to be young and noisy. However I don't think I am unreason able in objecting to being unable to get to sleep until until well after two o'clock because of constant LOUD noise from a group of young men/boys in the opposite room which recommenced about five o'clock. At this moment I uncharacteristically resorted to crossing the corridor banging three times on the door and bellowing SHURRUP which had the desired effect. If the same group are in room 17 tonight I hope the new residents in 18 are issued with ear protectors. I could not have complained to the management because reception closes at 10pm and was still unoccupied at 9am the following day when we left. Only a dire emergency number was available in the interim with checkout being a case of ”leave your key on the desk”. Suitable accommodation ruined by unfettered guests.

The experience in Scotland is good, the room is large, clean and the location is OK. After the bookstore, you can go to the lively street, to the throne of Arthur, the window has no scenery, a bottle of water is provided free of charge, there are maps, etc. Elements, still good

The hotel is only ten minutes away from the bus station. The location is great. The receptionist is very kind. The room is big and the heating intensity is acceptable. The water column in the bathroom is big enough and hot enough. It's great!

Edinburgh Old Town
Hotel was well located and very clean inside. Rooms made up daily. Breakfast was ok. Odd smell in bathroom - think the drains are not right. Main issues - bathroom extractor fan continuously on -annoying. The doors to other rooms slam noisily and some awful motor/generator out back of hotel also causing constant noise. Hot rooms; window only opens a crack. Overpriced for what is essentially a marginally polished premier inn.

We stopped here for the night as had an earlyish flight out of Edinburgh the following morning. The rooms are quite dated, but ours was very cosy and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening meal sitting in the bar, which was full of locals enjoying a drink or a meal, many of them with their dogs. (We're dog people so that made us very happy!) The food was good and the service friendly. Breakfast was plentiful and good value at 8.95 each. Would definitely stay again next time we're flying in late or flying out early.

We loved this hotel. Amazing value for money, if this hotel was in london it would be £200+ a night I think. The location is great, the city center is within 10 mins walking distance but it’s just far enough out to get a peaceful nights sleep. The breakfast is OK, does the job really, nothing to write home about. Will defiantly stay here again and recommend to friends
