Stayed here as was up for a family wedding.Really lovely wee hotel. Rooms were nice and comfy. Breakfast was included and really nice generous serving. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are up this way.

I came here for dinner on Friday around 6pm. The service was really good. The food was very nice. The price was £23.50 for two courses (part of Aberdeenshire Restaurant Week) which was good value. I would definitely come back again.

For our 58th wedding anniversary we visited the Buchan Hotel Restaurant at lunchtime. We were so disappointed. Before booking we checked to see if they catered for dairy free meals and was told yes. The menu was extensive with the choice of carvery as it was a Sunday and 5 out of 7 of our party opted for the carvery. However our dairy free daughter was extremely limited to what she could have. The boiled potatoes was swimming in butter, the turnip was mashed with butter, the cabbage was shredded and had butter added and the Yorkshire pudding was also a no-no as it contained milk. She ended up with two small slices of turkey a few roast potatoes but not other vegetable. But give the staff their due they came with boiled potatoes without butter. The rest of us who had the carvery was also disappointed as we had the roast beef which was so tough to cut most of us left it. Portions were also very small and for 2 soups, 5 carvery meals (one slice of roast beef, one slice of turkey), 2 steak pies, soft drinks and a few coffees we paid the princely sum of £177.00. Sadly the lunch was way below standard and not good value for money. On a positive note, the staff were very friendly and attentive and have to be congratulated. Sadly I would not recommend this restaurant and we certainly will not be returning.

Visited ion a Saturday lunch time 12.15. Was shown to table & given menus as said our visit was for lunch. Sat for over 20/30 minutes before offer a drink. There was only 2 girls serving & 2 only other tables occupied. Bar had no lights on and the owner wasn’t around at all as he usually is. I opted for Cullen soup & other half steak pie. Soup arrived thick cream layer formed over and was way too salty & fish had bones which put me off. I had opted for bread instead of oatcakes. Small wedges but no butter. Steak pie gravy was runny like soup so hard to eat when served with chips. A young male chef with black cap appeared & was speaking away to waitresses and he placed a long knife down the back of his joggers into behind. Cooking utensils down underpants ! Having eating many times 1st time really disappointed and no a cheap lunch at £30. Unsure if service was so poor because no boss was around, but even table behind sat for ages when finished & had to get up and ask for table to be cleared. A disappointing visit after eaten many times in hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights with our friends. Room was lovely and clean and staff were very good. Breakfast in the morning might have been the best hotel breakfast I’ve had yet. The rooms are quite dated and very warm and quite noisy if you’re staying the side where the bar is. Otherwise very pleasant. Car park is handy too.

Well, I would describe The Buchan Hotel as nearly, but not quite, Premier inn standard. This is my second stay here and I really have no complaints. The whole place, rooms, corridors, lobby, restaurant and toilets are spotless; one of the cleanest hotels I have stayed in! The full breakfast is outstanding and evening meals even better. The service is on-point, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. It’s a proper family run establishment and they take an active role in running this gem of a hotel. I am up in Ellon for work but would happily stay here on holiday. The location is great, right next to the river and in easy walking distance of the amenities. Did I mention the large free car park?; that’s a bonus. All-in-all, be it accommodation or popping by for a meal, I can definitely recommend The Buchan Hotel. For sure, If I’m back for work I will be booking in here; Well done Neil & the team.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE DON’T RECOMMEND Visited here but certainly won’t be back as it was diabolical. Food was poor quality and wasn’t hot. Service was terrible and staff were not very smartly dressed. This created not a very inviting environment so I don’t think I will be returning. I was hoping to book rooms for family as we have coming up for wedding but the experience we received during our visit has decided that WE WILL NOT BE ALLOWING FAMILY GUESTS TO STAY AT HOTEL. It was going to be 6 rooms for 4 nights. We will find somewhere else where we are happy with allowing family guests to stay.

Visited here but certainly will not be again as it was diabolical service was poor, food was disappointing as it was warm and presentation was not appealing either. It was an awful experience especially when taking guests out. Will never return as it’s awful.

Stayed here one night, twin room,2 x single beds,on my own for work purposes..bed itself rather springy with not the comfiest pillows..however..dinner was excellent,as was breakfast,a real full Scottish with excellent local ingredients cooked to perfection..girl who appeared to be in charge both with booking you in plus running dining room was very efficient and helpful..a proper hospitality worker I’d say..def stay again and hope my mattress was a little firmer😀👍
