Hotel Engel

In all my years of travelling I have never felt so at home and welcomed as I did on my recent stay at the Hotel Engel. I was there for the Christmas period with my parents and had the most loveliest of stays and time. The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much for them. The rooms were spacious and spotless and the bed was so comfortable, lovely duvet and pillows too! The icing on the cake was the morning view from my bedroom, opening the curtains to a view of the sow covered mountains! Absolute bliss. The evening meals were tasty and well cooked / presented. Our evenings were spent in the bar, where even the locals made you feel welcome. The only down side to the holiday / hotel was having to leave! 100% would stay there again and highly recommend to anyone.

My partner and I stayed at this small friendly hotel whilst on a coach holiday with leger holidays. Jacqueline and her staff all looked after us very well during our stay. Breakfast was self service and there was plenty for everyone. Dinner was very good and the staff always came round with seconds. There is a small friendly bar where we went each night which is also used by locals. Rooms were good and were always warm. Good views. The hotel setting is a lovely small village. There’s a shop across the road from the hotel and the cable car which we used. The cable car operates at a reduced price later in the day. Well worth using. The hotel is well recommended and the staff all made us very welcome.

Very nice hotel, helpful staff, dog friendly, good location, facilities in village and great views, (+ easy access off autoroute). Breakfast & evening meal very good. Room good size. Lift access. Can't fault this hotel. So is there a negative? Only one, the chirch nearby has a clock thst chimes the hours and the quarters if that's not enough it also rings all the bells at 05.00! So if you are a light sleeper and like to sleep with the window open a bit, just bear this in mind

Slightly odd checkin procedure, where we got a key somehow without really registering but our room was prepaid so we didn’t think much of it. The room wasn’t ready after all, so the receptionist spent some minutes shouting at the cleaner and left us to wait in the bar. When we got to the room it was unexpectedly large and roomy with a balcony and separate window so we could air it a bit (no air condition). Decoration a bit dated etc, no fridge but clean and fairly quiet and dark at night despite being next to the road. The bathroom had soap dispensers full of very watered down detergent but the water pressure in the shower was good and reliable, as was the Wi-Fi. We slept well! We had dinner in the restaurant and that was fine, and agreed to put it on the bill and pay in the morning. As we enjoyed our dinner, a huge party of new guests arrived and were accommodated in the restaurant but in a difficult part and the hotel manager, who was also waiting on tables, somehow managed to handle all of this at once and no problems with service to our table as you might expect. In the morning, the same thing; lots of breakfast guests but they were prepared by having an extra table of breakfast in a difficult room (albeit without the cold stuff like yogurt) and placing thermoses of coffee on the tables for arriving guests. So we didn’t get a welcome or anything but helped ourselves. Breakfast was a bit limited and the coffee was the worst we had on this trip, but still plenty of choice. Checking out was rather difficult as the person on reception couldn’t find any record of us checking in, and had problems with the computer system, but it was eventually sorted out, we paid our bill and off we went. There is not a lot of choice if you want to stay in Emmetten so this could be your best bet.

Stayed at Hotel Engel as part of a Leger Luxuria Holiday. Jacqueline and her team were welcoming and friendly, looking after us for breakfast, dinner and drinks for a 6 night stay. My room was on the second floor at the back of the hotel with a hillside view; peaceful and quiet. Spacious double room and adequate en-suite shower room. The room was cleaned daily with fresh towels provided when needed. Breakfast and dinner were always served freshly prepared. We were provided with the choice between 2 main meals for each night, with a set starter and dessert. On our penultimate night, we were entertained with some live Swiss music during dinner, which made for a lovely atmosphere. There is a shop opposite the hotel and also a cable car. An enjoyable stay; I would definitely recommend a stay and be happy to return in the future.
