Hotel New Kohrin

Speaking of Esashi, hairy crab is a local specialty. I learned at dinner that since it's currently the crab season, the hairy crab I ate was not frozen but live, boiled on the beach. Unlike frozen crabs, the crab was meaty and not dry, making it incredibly delicious. The raw scallop carpaccio and Hokkaido wagyu beef sukiyaki were particularly unforgettable. Unfortunately, the non-smoking rooms were fully booked, so I could only reserve a smoking room. I requested a deodorizer when I made my reservation, but the smell was so strong that it bothered me. The staff informed me that there are only a few non-smoking rooms, and they are considering renovating to increase the number of non-smoking rooms in the future. I hope this is realized soon. The hot spring is disinfected with chlorine, but the water quality is excellent. However, day-trip bathing is only available until 9:00 PM, so depending on the time of day, it can get quite crowded. It was a shame that I couldn't enjoy a relaxing bath after checking in. On the other hand, the hotel was only open to guests in the morning, so it was quiet and I was able to enjoy a leisurely bath. I would definitely return during hairy crab season.

My first business trip of 2025 took me to this area, so I stayed here. This time, I again traveled by intercity bus, and after getting off the bus, I used a local hire car to arrive at the hotel. I saw several taxis in town, so I assumed there were a fair number of them. If you make a reservation the next morning, they'll be able to accommodate you even before business hours (the taxi company's contact information is posted in the elevator). This time, I was assigned a twin room on the fourth floor. The room was heated well, so I didn't wake up cold at night. After checking in, I warmed up in the large public bath. You will need to bring towels from your room. I was traveling alone again, but I chose the dinner plan and ate at the restaurant. The menu was extensive, and every dish was well-prepared, so I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't notice this on my last stay, but the microwave is located near the smoking room in front of the large public bath on the first floor, and the ice maker is located in front of the restaurant on the same floor. The Esashi Mikasayama Ski Resort is located behind the hotel, making it a convenient location for those skiing there. Perhaps because it was winter and there was a lot of snowfall, it seemed like there weren't many people using the facility. This is my second time staying at this comfortable hotel, and I highly recommend it for anyone traveling nearby.

I stayed here on a business trip. After arriving at Esashi Terminal by Soya Bus, I used a nearby hire car to get to the hotel. It's not too far from the bus terminal, but it's a gentle uphill climb. The four-story hotel features a hot spring, sauna, and restaurant. Even though it was a weekday, there were many guests. I was assigned a single room on the fourth floor, which seemed reasonably spacious. I stayed alone and chose the dinner plan, which included a hairy crab. The crab was perfectly packed, and the menu was extensive and well-prepared. The alcohol selection was also extensive and reasonably priced. In addition to the course menu included in the accommodation plan, there were also a wide variety of set meals and a la carte dishes. I felt that 70% of the guests were traveling and 30% were working. There were quite a few people taking their lunch boxes prepared by the hotel to work the next day. While traveling by personal or rental car is not a problem, local or intercity buses tend to arrive early in the morning or evening, making transportation inconvenient. However, if you are taking a 7am flight from Esashi Terminal to Sapporo, you can reserve a hire car by asking the front desk by 5pm the evening before. This time, I had breakfast at the restaurant from 6:30am and was able to make it in time for the 6:50am departure. Esashi Town is a little hard to get to, but I was able to relax in the hot springs, enjoy delicious food, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. This is a hotel I would definitely use again.
