Family Friendly Hotels in Shangri-La

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel, and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish. What stood out immediately was how responsive and efficient the team was through the group chat they created for guests. It felt like having a concierge in your pocket—fast, friendly, and always ready to help. One moment that really impressed me: I had sent my laundry in (yes, they offer complimentary laundry service—not just machines, but actual washing and drying done for you!), and I noticed one of my socks was missing. I casually asked about it in the group chat while I was having breakfast near the reception area. To my surprise, I saw a staff member literally sprint off from the reception and return shortly after—with my missing sock in hand! That level of attentiveness was genuinely remarkable. There was a little hiccup when the hotel forgot our advance booking for transport. We were initially told to book our own as their cars were all taken, which left us pretty dissatisfied—especially since it wasn’t a last-minute request. But while I was venting to my friend, one of our butlers overheard us and quietly stepped in. She said she'd help us out—and to our surprise, she personally booked a DiDi ride for us using her own money. We were honestly amazed by that level of care, and it meant so much that we later decided to bring her a little taste of our local delight as a thank-you gift. The hotel also offers complimentary afternoon tea, complete with barista-made coffee and cakes—a perfect treat to enjoy while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere. Speaking of which, the view from my room was incredible—lush, open grasslands that made every moment feel peaceful and grounding. They also offer a car service to take you to nearby points of interest, but to be honest, the hotel itself was such a gem that I could have easily stayed in the whole time. Between the view, the service, and the food (the in-house restaurant is also worth mentioning—delicious meals and lovely ambience), I never felt the need to venture far. This hotel nails it when it comes to comfort, hospitality, and thoughtful touches. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a truly relaxing and memorable stay. Bonus: they have three adorable chowskis roaming around the property, and one of them can even open the lobby door. 🐾 Honestly, that alone made my day. We had an amazing stay at Shangri-La Banxia Time Homestay, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Shangri-La, Yunnan. From the moment we booked, the host was extremely responsive, keeping in touch with us for three weeks before our trip. They provided useful tips, such as bringing heavy clothes due to the cold and snow, which helped us a lot in preparing for our visit. One of the best things about this homestay was the hospitality. The host picked us up and dropped us off at the train station for free of charge, making our arrival and departure hassle-free. They also went the extra mile by lending us winter jackets at no cost, which was a thoughtful gesture. Additionally, they arranged a driver for us to visit the places we wanted to explore, making our trip smooth and enjoyable. The homestay itself was fantastic—spacious, exactly as shown in the pictures, and equipped with complete amenities. It truly felt like a home away from home. The bed was very comfortable, and we appreciated the hot blankets and oxygen supply, which were essential due to Shangri-La’s high altitude. The homestay also had a modern design while being located in the heart of the ancient town, offering easy access to everything. Beyond the comfortable stay, the host’s kindness and guidance made our experience even better. They recommended great places to visit and local restaurants to try, ensuring we had a memorable trip. At first we contemplated to choose to stay here. But after much consideration, we decided to stay and forget about the price. As we decided that the experience here would be priceless! And we definitely grateful with the decision that we made. The whole place is so beautiful and charming. With animals running around, politeness of the staffs assisting our every needs, complimentary services provided by the hotel, this hotel is really cost- effective! We are greeted with warm tea, and then with complimentary afternoon coffee and cakes. Their coffee and cake are very delicious 🤤 We also get to experience wearing the ******* clothing and free photography session. As we are muslims, we need to pray for zuhur prayer. But the check out time is before zuhur time. The staff gave us a room to pray after we check out and we really appreciate their kind gesture. The staff also gave us free rides to halal restaurants and train station. We recommend people to stay here at least once, you will not regret it 🩷

Very nice and hospitable owner. There are high mountain sickness tea available at lobby also some snacks. Nice room and nice with glass roof. The homestay include pick up and drop off services from the train stations for our 2-night stay. They also provided day tours and a special ******* cuisine tour, complete with pick up services. On our last day, the lady owner woke up at 6:30 am to send us off. It was a lovely gesture and truly made our stay memorable.

A very cosy & comfortable stay, with very convenient location - walking distance to the Old Town, restaurants & convenient stores The front desk are very kind, friendly, patient & helpful, special thanks to 小许 who helped us to book the taxi & ordered food online as we don’t have a local China mobile number. I’m from malaysia & every things about this hotel is so perfect. They provided pick up & drop off service from station for free. The host also very kind and helpful eventhogh i can’t speak chinese. I love the hotel because it keeps you warm and comfortable. Definitely will stay here again if i come to shangri-la. The distance from hotel to ancient city also not to far. Only 5 mins walkaway. I just love every single things about this hotel. The price also reasonable.

- They provided a free pickup/drop-off service to and from the Shangrila train station contacted them via wechat - My room had a stale, smoky smell, which was a bit disappointing. - The hotel is located near Dukezong Ancient City, making it very walkable. - The heated floor was very helpful during the cold winter. - The room was clean, but I didn’t like the cigarette smell. - There was no air conditioning or fan in the room

Cleanliness is honestly so-so. Found used/opened disposable shampoo packets in bathroom when arrived. The in-room hot water dispenser is a small-sized mobile unit that connects directly to a small mineral water bottle - not easy to use plus it discharges some greenish fluid while trying out. The multi-level building has no lift so large heavy luggage is challenging (credit to the staff who would help to carry it up for you), but climbing up/down not easy for old people. Getting the right temperature in the bathroom is challenging too, it's often too hot or too cold, and hard to adjust in between. The hotel allowed smoking in indoor public areas, resulting in the whole building soaked in second hand smoke. This is unfortunately the biggest put off that spoils everything else that could have made it a reasonable stay. Overall, I would say the stay had been below our expectations.

My first impression was that the guy who picked us up at the station was very enthusiastic and waited at the exit to help with the luggage. Explain the travel strategy along the way. The room is very spacious and well-equipped, with dry and wet areas separated, and most importantly, very clean. It has air conditioning, bathtub, bathrobe, humidifier, oxygen concentrator, and is full of design sense. The mattress is very comfortable and the hardness is just right! The accommodation environment and thoughtful service of this homestay make it very cost-effective. I recommend it and will choose it again when I come to Shangri-La next time.

The boss is very nice and the B&B is very clean. He even came when I called to pick him up from the station. He was very welcoming. It's nice to watch movies while lying down with the projector. There is a smart Xiaodu. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The tiles are also non-slip. It's very thoughtful. The hot water heats up in less than three seconds. There is a smart toilet. There are masks, trekking poles and umbrellas downstairs. We used the trekking poles when we went hiking. It's really thoughtful! The boss is very nice. The cleaning lady is very nice. Just go.
