This hotel was an absolute delightful surprise. While searching for hotels in Figeac, this one, nestled within a castle once owned by Philip IV and boasting distinct medieval architectural features, immediately caught my eye. Upon entering the lobby, the prominent 93-point award, the front desk design, and the overall interior design throughout the castle left a truly impressive mark.
Every staff member we encountered, like the incredibly courteous gentleman in the lobby—who I believe was either the hotel director or manager 👨🏻💼—was exceptionally welcoming. He enthusiastically showed us around the hotel's layout, guiding us to the dinner and breakfast areas. He also shared fascinating details about the castle's history.
When we went to the front desk to book dinner, we had the pleasure of meeting the chef 👨🏻🍳. He was a bit reserved but meticulously explained the evening's dining options and set menus. He mentioned a "mystery box" style tasting menu with 6 authentic local dishes (which actually turned out to be 7, with a complimentary tuna appetizer). At 69 euros per person, we were all intrigued and immediately decided to go for it! The outcome was incredibly surprising and truly excellent value for money. We also opted for the 25 euro per person wine pairing, which included four glasses. Our sommelier was highly professional, and like the food, the wine pairing was a delightful 'mystery box.' We were so lucky; the dry white wine we received was a Grand Cru Burgundy, and the sommelier was very generous with his pours, giving us nearly full glasses each time, clearly hoping we'd have a fantastic time. Overall, it was incredibly good value for money 👍🏻.
Breakfast, due to it being the off-season, offered a standard selection. But generally, the ambiance, quality, and service were all highly commendable. I hope this provides a great reference for fellow travelers visiting Figeac.
