The Carlton Hotel

I came to this hotel to try and book in and was told it is no longer trading as a hotel as it it now full of bearded children from abroad. I tried this hotel after unsuccessfully trying to book into the southcliff hotel next door which is no longer trading as it is full of customers on holiday from Manston and Dover who started their journey from calais. They apologised for the inconvenience and suggested I tried further down the coast in the next county or at least that’s what they seemed to be suggesting. The security that surround the hotel are pleasent enough and although English is not spoken, it is easily understood that you are no longer welcome in the vicinity. However rest assured the current residents are enjoying the beautiful sea views and fine cuisine being afforded to them for their stay.

The title explains it all. Very disappointing. I've stayed here once before. Sadly until the HO sorts itself out this hotel will be closed to the public. I now stay in the Southcliff further down the road, but I doubt I'll be going back to Folkestone.

The Home Office wouldn’t allow one of their prisons to be as dirty as this place. It was absolutely disgusting. I honestly do not know how dust can appear that thick on a vertical surface. This was more like a kennel than a hotel. Do not put yourself through it. Myra Hindley, Ian Brady, Fred and Rose, Dennis Nilsen, Peter Sutcliffe and Harold Shipman wouldn’t deserve a night in this place.

Visited this hotel late one night around 12am to ask if they had any rooms available to be told they do not so peacefully walked back to my car and left I was parked in there car park for 13 minutes whist enquiring! then I wind up with a letter on my doorstep stating I owe a parking company £346.36 3 1/2 years later absolute joke if you ask me avoid these con men couldn’t charge me for a room but can charge me for parking my car for 13 minutes

We have stayed here many times and although 'basic' it did the job for us. However when trying to book a room lately it seems that either the hotel is shut permanently, which would not be a surprise, or it's under long-term refurbishment. It needs it.

Having read other reviews I have to say from my own experience they are unfair. It's an old building with character. My room is large, I booked and paid for a single but got a double. The room is nicely decorated and bathroom clean. The very low price I have paid includes free parking and breakfast. As said in a previous review, if you want the Ritz, pay more! This is budget accommodation and perfectly adequate for my overnight stay. Tea and coffee supplied plus soap and shampoo/conditioner.
