On the first and second day of Chinese New Year, we stayed at the Hilton in Guangzhou. On the third day, we went to Shunde, but couldn't find any hotels near Qinghui Garden – they were all booked up and incredibly expensive. We ended up booking a highly-rated hotel, only to find out it was in a very remote area with a dirty and messy surroundings. They wouldn't refund our booking either (definitely stick to Trip.com or *********** for hotel reservations, not [redacted platform]). We promptly booked the Hilton in Foshan and stayed there for three days. During peak travel season, big brand hotels really don't disappoint. They have the capacity to handle large crowds, and the quality of service doesn't drop, plus the prices are reasonable. The afternoon tea and breakfast spread were fantastic. I booked an executive suite and two deluxe twin rooms; a friend who was passing through stayed with us temporarily and was also very satisfied. Ordering takeout was convenient too – we had raw fish, claypot rice, BBQ meats, and roasted pigeons, and none of them were a letdown. It was also easy to explore and eat our way through different districts in Foshan. The kapok trees on Chancheng Avenue were in full bloom and absolutely beautiful. Generally, regular hotels and B&Bs are fine during off-peak season, but during peak season with large crowds, their quality and service can't keep up, and their prices aren't low either!
